We ABSOLUTELY enjoyed our stay at Wyndham Rio Mar. The room was very warm and the bed slept comfortably. The beach and pool area was very, very relaxing (and exciting). There were several dining options, yet they were all costly. We are definitely planning to return (real soon).
We went to this resort for our babymoon and were pretty disappointed. The pools and beach area are very nice, but the rooms are pretty grim (stained walls/bland and worn decor/etc...). There are a zillion kids, so it's not a great environment for a couples getaway. The food options are way overpriced and generally pretty gross - we rented a car, so we ate all our meals outside the resort after the first couple of attempts (but a car is definitely necessary to do that). The staff is generally pretty disinterested in the guests. Having a car really saved the trip because it allowed us to get away from the resort - otherwise, it would have been a real bummer of a vacation.
We were pleasantly surprised with the Wyndham Rio Mar. We had a great time! It is beautiful and great, remote, beautiful location!
I enjoyed the resort so much. I will recommend all of my friends to go and enjoy themselves, because the people are wonderful. Over all the Wybdan Rio Mar Beach Resort and Spa is where to be.
This was an awesome resort, drinks were good, AND we ran into some of friends from Indiana!! Our rooms were very nice, staff was very helpful. We will be back! Marie
We visited in March. The hotel was good, not great though. It was too expensive to dine in the hotel, so we usually went down to kiokos nearby, i think in the town of Fajardo. Rooms were clean, and it was very quite, so we did get good night sleep. However if you are looking for entertainment, you wont find it in the hotel. By 9 or 10 pm you wont find anyone walking around. Again, you would have to leave resort for entertainment. Also, when we were checking out, they mistakenly charged us for drinks that we never got, the concierge promised to remove the charges. Later, when we got back home, i found those charges on my credit card, i have had to call concierge, accounting and ect at the hotel to get it resolved. That was very unpleasant.
My daughter and i enjoyed our stay however we were disappointed in the food choices. The hotel was not forthcoming in providing information so it took us a couple days to get acclimated and the food choices were expensive. Also the sightseeing trips used up full days. We were only there four days so it would have been nice to have smaller trips available. We still enjoyed the break from winter a lot!
I was taken to Puerto Rico as a get me out of the dog house vacation. Let me say for the time being he was so far out of the dog house. I was in heaven, when I arrived at Rio Mar. The spa treatment was amazing, I cashed in at the casino, the beach was warm and the Tiki bar was inviting. I must admit I was a little afraid of the huge iguanas around the resort, but they did not bother me. Oh yeah, except for the time my friend put a banana peel on my bag. I did not know why all of a sudden it started to chase me until he yelled out it is the banana peel on your purse. I have it coming towards me on camera. All you can hear me saying is "oh my god it is getting closer its coming to get me, why is it chasing me, what does it want? Then I threw the peel and you see it run over to the peel and start eating it while gazing at me from the corner of its eyes. As if to say "you didn't have a clue, I was coming to get my banana!" I was rained on almost everyday, but that in no way put a damper on my vaca. I had a ball in and outside of the resort. The rainforest nearby was amazing, the ATV ride was unforgettable. I would not change that trip for anything in the world. Oh and Old San Juan was astonishing. The history there is like no other, not to mention the food at the Dragon Fly. MMMMMMM Good! Oh, do not eave out the Bayou Bay that glos in the dark and snorkeling in the reefs. Man I just can't say enough great things. I flat out loved it!!!
Rio Mar is beautiful, well-maintained, well-staffed with wonderful people, and a great place to stay - as long as you have a car so you can drive from the hotel to anything else you might want to do. We took advantage of one of the tour packages available from the very helpful concierge, but we also had other outings we wanted to do on our own. The hotel is off the main track so be sure to rent a car if you intend to leave the resort for any meals or sightseeing. (Fortunately, they have a car rental option at the resort, but it's very pricey. Best to rent from the airport.) Also, it's very hilly around Rio Mar - part of its beauty - so don't plan on cycling instead of driving! You're going to need a car! This was our first time to PR, so perhaps other resorts have similar location issues.
