All Viva Wyndham V Samana Customer Reviews
Spent 5 nights at Viva Wyndham V Samana the last week of April 2016. In short, my wife and I just weren't impressed or wowed. We regularly compared our stay to another resort we had been to and that said a lot right there. Room: we got the Vibe room with the dipping pool. We liked it. Clean and spacious enough. No where comfortable to sit other than the bed. But there A/C controls were broken. It was either an ice box or it was off. All the rooms are closer to dining areas than they are to the beach. Pictures imply otherwise. When sitting on the patio, it always felt a little exposed and not private at all. Beach - beautiful. Best part of the place. pools were fine, but we were there for the beach. Dining.. There seemed to be no rhyme or reason when restaurants were open or closed. The best place the Mar y Fuego, was closed out right the first night and closed for a special event twice during the week. May not have been upsetting had there been any notice of this from anyone when we arrived. Fusion was fine. Possibly the second best... the Mediterranean place, just avoid it. Not worth it. The buffet was also not worth it considering Fusion and Fuego are included. The buffet wasn't bad, just nothing special. Excursions and things.. Maybe cause they just opened and they haven't set up all possible excursion offerings, but there were like a total of 5 things they offered to help set up. Sail boats.. they dont' let you take out a hobie by yourself. A sports guy sails and you're just passengers... disappointing. Staff... friendly, but not very helpful. I don't think, at an all inclusive, tipping should be needed for average service. But those that were tipping definitely got attention while those that weren't' were ignored. We gave up on their house wine as soon as we found out there was a wine list to choose from. Yeah, we paid extra, but what ever grape juice they served was horrible enough to have us splurge on real wine. Gotta ask for the list though! gotta ask! So.. our stay was nothing special... Food was OK and the best food was closed half the time. Beach was beautiful, best part of the place... Staff friendly but not helpful... rooms nice, but too near crowds and little privacy.

Travel: 1-2 trips/year
Beach was beautiful and not commercialized, which was great! The pool was big, clean and inviting. The activity staff, waitresses and bartenders were wonderful, funny, and accommodating. My biggest let-down for the trip was that we wanted to use a coupon for a free excursion for horse-back riding, advertised as offered by the hotel, but we were not permitted to use it. The excursion director said it was only for customers who booked on another vacation website. However, nothing stated in the terms and conditions on the coupon indicated this. The only "exclusions" were if it were outside of the dates listed (the coupon indicated this was being offered the entire month of June). They were adamant in not honoring the coupon, and insisted it was my misunderstanding, not theirs, even though I found the coupon on their website! The food was okay. The restaurant food was much better than the buffet. But the drinks were great! The activities offered were good, but somewhat redundant. However, all and all a great place to relax and enjoy the untainted, peaceful, beachy atmosphere!

What's the best excursion? How much should you tip?
