Stay in Style!

The Sunset Plaza Beach Resort and Spa is a wonderful place to stay. Starting off with getting out of the Taxi they hand you a wet wash cloth for your hands and take care of your luggage. Once inside this beautiful resort they serve you a glass of champagne! This place was so beatiful with high end modern decor. The service was outstanding and the food was all order ala-carte (no buffets!) The pool area was clean and the service was excellent. I can't say enough about how wonderful this resort is. I highly sugest the massage by the ocean; Very relaxing. The music at the resort was a sort of "older" 70's style "musac"...Not my favorite. Overall I would stay at Suset Plaza over and over again. It's in a perfect location of about 5 minute taxi ride to the center of town or to the Marina which makes it very inexpensive to get around.

One of my best vacations ever

The accomodations were wonderful. My friends and I could not believe the amenities at this location. The staff was very accomodating. This was a new experience for an all-inclusive resort. It was not anything like other resorts I have been to that offered all-inclusive. I thought the food was wonderful and the wait staff could not have been any nicer.I will tell all my friends about this place.

Some really good points, some really bad points

Beautiful hotel - all ocean front rooms. No king size bed in deluxe rooms, only in suites - who wants to pay for a full kitchen when you're going all inclusive??? Pools were very nice, beach was basicly unswimmable & very small & rocky. Service at the ONE formal restaurant was TERRIBLE - we only went there once in 8 nights & we left before ever receiving our entrees. Service at the outdoor restaurant was sometimes OK and sometimes not good. You had to pay tax (16%) on room service - there was no charge for the food (we were all inclusive) only the tax??? The spa services we used were very good - although the spa was small & did not offer a lot of services. The massages were so good, we each had 2. Outside of dining, all the service staff was great - very helpful and friendly. There were almost no activities at this resort - we decided it was more of a hotel than a resort. The cabanas around the adult pool were GREAT. All in all, we had a really nice relaxing vacation, but probably would not choose this resort again.

great experience

in six trips to mexico this was by far the best accomodations yet. everything was perfect. dining was superior, except, for italian restaurant. It was ok but pailed to the quality of other dining area. Bar was excellent, Marco was favorite bartender. he did a wonderful job and had fun at the same time. watched whales off the balcony almost daily.. rate this a 9.5 out of 10.

We give this resort a 5 Star Rating!

We really enjoyed our stay at Sunset Plaza Resort. The interior and the exterior of the property were maintained beautifully, the staff went above and beyond to ensure we had a pleasant stay, they were extremly helpful in directing us to places we wanted to see and suggesting things to do that would interest us. The room was perfectly maintained and stocked. The food served was wonderful both in preparation AND presentaion and definately we would rate as well as any 5 star restaurant were we have dined. All of the staff right up to the manager were gracious and spoke excellent english. We walked in to Puerto Vallarta and along the Malecon both day and evening and never at any time did we ever feel uncertain as to our safety. All in all a beautiful experience, we are returning next year!!! Charmers

Good Value for Money

TIP: If you purchase the airport transfer in Puerto Vallarta- ignore the people who claim to be w/the company unless their t-shirt has their logo. Otherwise, you will get tons of timeshare pitches. We did an all-inclusive package and were very pleased. We felt we got good value for money as the resort was beautiful and the food was good. At other resorts, I’ve heard the employees will ignore you if you are not constantly tipping them. This was definitely not the case here. One interesting thing to me was walking up the beach a couple miles- this hotel was definitely one of the top 3 nicest. Butlers 5*: Service was superb, can not find a single fault. Their strongest group of employees. Maids 4.5*: Did an excellent job, only complaint is they missed cleaning one day. We mentioned it to the Butlers and it was taken care of immediately. Front Desk 5*: Did a quick job of checking in/out. Exchange rate was actually reasonable. Bellhops 5*: Were helpful and quick. Pool Boys 4*: Only complaint is they were sometimes difficult to find/ did not do quite enough rounds. Otherwise their service was perfect. Restaurant/Outdoor Cafe 3*: This is the area that needs the most work. The food is good. However, the staff was inexperienced. We often had to ask for things multiple times. However, some staff were always spot on. It really just depended on your waiter. The food choices were also limited as the menus were the same for each meal (every breakfast the same, every lunch, every dinner). Having SOME change (even 2 breakfast/lunch/dinner menus) would be a huge improvement. They should also make up a dessert menu (which changed more frequently). The desserts were always amazing. The bartender at the outdoor cafe is probably their best employee. When he was not making drinks (which was rare) he was charming the guests. Their head chefs, however, hardly ever seemed to do anything. It really seemed the sous chefs did everything in the kitchen, Facilities 5*: Although the facilities were not quite the quality of a 5* resort, the finishes were very nice. The grounds people did an incredible job of keeping things sparkling clean, tidy and gorgeous. The lobby was also always picture perfect. Bar 4*: The chairs really aren't that comfortable for a long relaxing drink. The live music was always very good, but the speakers were on so loud it was impossible to enjoy it. Besides those two things- the bar was great. Pool/Private Beach 4.5*: The pools were always very pleasant, clean and warm. The beach was well cared for and there was a small private beach. The only room for improvement is a guard should have been placed on the beach more often to make sure people didn't 'wander in' and that people walking buy were not hassling the guests. With that said, if you did want to buy things- buy them from people on the beach. The people on the flea market were a lot more difficult to negotiate with. The women in particular were very friendly and helpful. Outdoor Bathrooms 4*: The bathrooms for use by the restaurant/gym were clean. However, they really did need more hand towels placed in their more often- rather than people needing to resort to using the disposable ones. Also, the men’s bathroom by the restaurant was unbearably hot because a vent from the kitchen fed out right by it's window. Overall, very little change on their part would improve the hotel immensely to being completely outstanding, I would definitely go there again and/or recommend it to a friend.

Great Price

Beautiful hotel, rooms were beautiful, new, all marble. Clean rooms, great bathrooms (we had one bedroom suite). Huge balconies. LOCATION is awesome....BUT The service was some of the worst I have ever experienced. The Italian Restaurant was a joke, it looked like a High School cafeteria...The QUALITY of the FOOD was Excellent. Service was extremely poor. TOO bad service was so bad most of the time...We got a really great price to stay here, so after getting used to poor service for what we paid, it was ok. I would only come back to this resort if we got a great price again, otherwise forget it! TOo bad because the resort has a lot of potential and is in a great location. We did all inclusive as well...

nice place great value

From the time you check in your treated like royalty, staff wanted to make you happy. Food was great but after seven days menu got old. Out door pools were heated and warm, but beach needed work and small. The view from our room was to die for, surf hitting the beach all night long.Very relaxing and peaceful week long vacation, go back in a heartbeat.

Excellent service and atmospherre - small beach

Everything was 5 star quality. I worried because the lack of restaurant choices but the food was amazing. Hotel was new and super clean, you can even pick a pillow from a comfort menu. The pools and lounges are great along with the pool service but the beach was disappointing and vendors were in your face. Overall, the Sunset is one of the nicest new hotels in the area and I would highly recommend it.

get purchase for the price

We booked a deluxe but upon checking in they had upgraded us to a suite. The suite was wonderful....the service was great, the food was really good. Sometimes when waiting for food you had to remind yourself you were on Mexico time. The only drawback was if you are really into walking the beach it not that great. The pools are great. Had a massage at the Zen Set Spa on the beach and that was nice. Will for sure go back.
