This may be a really long review, but we wanted to provide the most information possible so others were VERY well informed of the resort. Before our stay, we saw a couple reviews that concerned us about Sunscape Splash, but just brushed them off. However, our stay wasn't as luxurious as we had hoped (and paid for). We stayed for 5 nights. OVERALL: The resort is not worth the money. Not enough to do at night, food was absolutely horrible, no hot water in the room most days. I would not recommend this resort at all. I thought about calling CheapCaribbean to see if they could switch our resort, but decided to try to stick it out. We made the best of our trip, but I know our vacation could have been so much better if we had gotten a different resort (we did the Deal of the Day, so we did not choose this resort). ATMOSPHERE: Most of the resort is very beautiful - modern, open air to get a breeze everywhere you go, nice seating areas in the common areas. There were a lot of kids (and kids running around), but it wasn't too bothersome for the most part because we stayed at the adult pool most of the time. ROOMS: Our room was okay at first. Very bland with no colors or paintings on the walls. The bathroom was a little brighter, but the shower looked pretty out dated. They replenish the fridge once every few days, which didn't bother us but we know it bothered other guests we talked to. The worst thing about the room was that we did not have hot water or water pressure for most of our stay (6 days, 5 nights). I had to call and complain several times and they didn't do much. No comp, no upgraded room, no moving us to a room for a night, nothing. Very disappointed in that aspect, because after swimming in a pool/ocean all day, you don't want to rinse off in cold water. FOOD/DRINKS: The best thing about the resort: the bars. The main lobby bar made the strongest drinks and the staff was always pretty nice. Unfortunately, this resort had some of the worst food I have ever had. The food is cooked with so much oil and grease that it made my stomach turn almost every meal - at first I thought it was the water, and then I realized the puddles of grease on every plate I made... Their "fancy Italian restaurant" Portofino had some of the worst food I've ever tasted, and it took over 2 hours to get the main course served to us even though we were one of the first tables seated. We heard Gohan is the same, but the two restaurants are never both open on the same night, and we never got to try it. Also, two restaurants are only open to select resort members, so you really only have 2-3 options for dinner and lunch every day. The food here is recycled day in and day out. You'll notice the food tastes and looks old, and that's because it is. One night they'll serve a specialty dish at one restaurant and the following night it will be at a different place. I thought I would have some of the best seafood ever here, but every piece of fish I had tasted old and dry. ENTERTAINMENT: Better yet, there is none. The pools close at 6 pm and then there is some kind of kid's entertainment later on if they have something planned (kid's talent show, kid's movie night, etc.). There are no nightclubs, bands playing, etc. If you want to have a fun night out, you have to leave the resort. They do have a "lounge" but no drinks are served in there, no music is playing, and there are two lone pool tables. They have a casino too, but it's pretty weak and only had video-card games and slot machines. POOLS/BEACH: Like I said, pools close at 6 pm. However, the pools are pretty well maintained and one has a swim up bar. The other two are more kid pools, so we didn't go in those, but they're pretty clean. The beach is super small and is full of rocks and seaweed. It was nice to go sit in the sand a little during the afternoon, but you can't swim in the ocean or take a long walk along the coast. Again, yes a long review, but this resort was a huge disappointment. As first time visitors to Jamaica and the Caribbean, we were expecting so much more.
Stayed at Sunscape using Deal Of Fortune option. First of all I read a review that all Deal Of Fortune Montego Bay vacationers get this hotel and sure enough we did. Read a lot of negative reviews but the service hear was exceptional and overall hotel was great. If I had to pick a down side the food was average at best and limited options. We went for the upgrade to the cove side and got an ocean front room. We later learned that AM hotels owns Cheap Carribean and the random hotel thing is bull. Overall good vacation but would not use Deal of Fortune again.
I did a lot of research on the resort before we went on this trip and it's safe to say, some opinions are right on, but you'll form your own when you go. We found many different things we weren't expecting. That being said, here is my unbiased pros and cons list: Pros -The drinks and food are plentiful. Food options for 24 hours every day and we had 6 options available to us - I'm kind of picky and I was able to find something I liked at every restaurant we ate at. They are not withholding on the booze either. The drinks are STRONG. -Everything was kept well clean. The pools were clean, our room was immaculate every day, the restaurants and lobbies always pristine. -There is always something to do. Two of our days were cooler and windy, sometimes a little rain. There was still always something to do besides being on the beach or at the pool. -They offer a lot of excursions outside the resort. We chose not to do any as we were only there for 4 nights but there are definitely some we know we would have enjoyed. Cons -They don't follow their own rules. It says on their website/check-in information that you're not allowed to reserve chairs (i.e. people go to the pool/beach early in the morning and put towels/magazines on chairs and leave them there until they want to come back) - supposedly the resort is supposed to monitor this - it doesn't happen. Also some restaurants are supposed to be "casual elegant" meaning men have to wear pants (not jeans), closed toe shoes and a collared shirt - we saw men go in wearing swimsuits, cutoffs and flip flops. Also, some restaurants were supposed to be adult only inside - they let kids inside. -There are A LOT of families and groups, not as many young couples. We went for our honeymoon (we're both 23) and our room was right by the waterpark - lots of screaming kids all day. Which is fine, we were rarely in our room all day so it never negatively affected us, just know if you are wanting romantic, I would look elsewhere. -Check-in process is LONG. If you come in on an early flight you will have to wait until 3 to check in and even then we waited another hour on top of that. We really just wanted to be able to jump in the pool after traveling all day and we had to wait 5 hours to do that. Honestly, all the reviews I saw were RAVING about the staff and customer service. It was average at best for us. We definitely didn't get the "You feel like family here" and "Everyone is so nice and welcoming" treatment - no one was rude or mean to us but certainly not over the top nice either. All in all we enjoyed our trip. We were able to relax, eat and drink in paradise. It's hard to complain about that. There was still some construction going on while we were there but it never affected us in any way.
I really enjoyed my stay at this resort. The service was excellent and the daily itinerary was helpful because they have so much going on throughout the day. I would recommend this resort to anyone. I will be visiting again very soon...
The staff here was very friendly, the management however except for one pretended as if they don't see you, don't say hi or anything, I would definitely go back,Odane, Natasha, Jonas and Nickoya made my stay very enjoyable!! He entire line staff was great, the life guards , the entertainment staff just friendly. I would return just because of the staff, Jessica in housekeeping great.
We used the Deal of Fortune and knew that Sunscape Splash was one of the options. After checking reviews, we were hoping that we would not be sent to Sunscape Splash, but we were. We were very apprehensive about the place, but all our concerns were put to rest. Upon registering, we were offered an "up-grade" to ocean view at a cost which we declined. The girl at the desk said that she could see if we could get a discount since we were staying for 2 weeks. She brought the price down to 1/2 of the original quoted price which we took. The room was exactly the same as we would of had, but was on the ocean side of the complex. Not sure it was worth it. Sunscape Splash turned out to be much better than we expected. The room was very average to the Caribbean, however it was very clean. The facilities were very nice, the service was extraordinary and the food was excellent! There were several bars well placed and very accessible. Most of the drinks were rum based, but they had Red Stripe beer and other drinks (scotch, bourbon, etc.) available. We would certainly go back. The complex was spread out so there weren't a lot of children at the beach or at the adult pool. There was a separate pool and play area for the kids which included a "lazy river" and water slides along with a kids club that offered special games all day long. We enjoyed our vacation at Sunscape Splash and would recommend it to all. One word of caution. If you shop for booz other than the airport, DO NOT BELIEVE the salesperson at the store. You Can Not get purchases of alcohol through the security at the airport unless you put it in your luggage, PLUS, the prices at the airport stores are cheaper than the supposed 1/2 off deals at a local store. Buyer Beware!!!
We just got back from a 5 night stay here at Sunscape. I'm not a big reviewer but I found reading other reviews important so here you go.... The over all resort: It's in a great location, close enough to go on excursions but not to close to where the noise of city life would bother you at all. They are still doing some major remodeling but we did not find that a problem really from our room (5910) as far as the noise level goes, every once in a while you may here some hammering but we think the people were just as loud at times if not louder with laughter down at the one of the pools. It's a big resort and there are plenty of things to do if (adults and children) you don't even want to see the rest of Jamaica. The food/restaurants: First night we got there we went to the Asian restaurant service was extremely slow. We had waited in line for the 6pm opening got seated along with everyone else at the same time the couple across from us received their food as we were leaving...timing between courses was pretty bad, they seemed a little/lot under staff in the kitchen. The food choices were good and the food tasted great and you could tell the staff was trying to do the best they could to keep everyone happy. The buffet had a lot of options and the food always seemed fresh and tasted good. This is where we decided to eat most of our meals. If you like fresh fruit they always have a lot of it here and it's great. Breakfast /dinner here was always great. The grill...wait time was ok and reasonable and the food was ok. Coco's is a good place to stop off and get a snack, sandwiches and desserts always tasted great. Bars: They have a lot of them here and the don't hold back on the alcohol, and they have a drink of the day that we thought was always fun to try. Rooms: This is were it's not so great..and we paid extra for the view (which was amazing!) They are dated rooms but they have been painted and they are clean. Water pressure was non-existing and it takes about 15 min. before you get hot water...bed was very comfortable and so were the pillows. The do have a mini fridge in your room they fill every other day, but to call it a mini bar is not really true, what you get is 2 cans of red stripe, 2 bottles of coke, 1 sprite, 1 pineapple soda, 2 jumex (fruit drinks) and 3 bottles of water...not a huge deal but don't go expecting a bar in the room. Housekeeping was always good other then no washcloths (even after asking for them 2 times) never got them other then the first day there.... Customer service This is were they are great (other then the washcloths) Everyone there was always nothing but friendly, helpful and always wanting to help you. Amazing staff I could go on and on but the easiest thing to say is this is what will bring us back one more time after all the changes are made. I know I could have said something about the few things I didn't like but I did pay extra for the view and the view was worth every penny and I didn't want to give that up..We went there for my wife birthday and I had arranged to have a few things extra for our room when we got there (at a cost) and they didn't disappoint at all..Champion on ice with fresh fruit dipped in chocolate was amazing and worth the cost and they did a great job at keeping it a secret until we made it to the room. The staff is what makes this place so special, long as they keep that and finish the renovations (hopefully that fixes the water pressure) we will go back. Also one more side note...we always felt very safe there and even in town we never had a problem...
Im reading alot of bad reviews about sunscape and my experience was completely different. For the price we had an amazing time we flew delta(i love delta) the flight was very comfortable with individual movie screens for everyone and a great selection of movies as well as complimentary snacks and juices. When we arrived in Jamacia we got out bags and everyone was very helpful in showing us where out resort shuttle was. We arrived to Sunscape splash and was greeted with damp towels and rum punch. The front desk receptionist could have been a little more friendly but she wasn't rude. They grabbed our luggage for us and we didnt have to lift a finger after we arrived. Our room was clean with a mini fridge full of complimentary juices, waters, sodas, and beer and was refilled daily. We had a great view of the ocean and pool area and there was a happy birthday sign on our door upon arrival for me which i thought was a very nice gesture. The bartenders were amazing their drinks were delicious and they did not skimp on the alcohol. They had daily entertainment fire breathers, dancers, marching band etc. All the food was really good and they had a free shuttle that took you to the clubs off of the resort and brought you back which i really loved. I have zero complaints and i would recommend this place and i will be staying again for my birthday in January i cant wait.
Beware! This resort is well bellow the 4.0 level advertised by Cheap Caribbean. We bought the deal of fortune, trusting that all 4 resorts included are of the same quality/value, and like the majority of customers that buy this deal, we were place at Sunscape Splash that is a 2.0 star resort (at best). The rooms are very basic and outdated, there were daily issues wuth replacing our towels and restocking our fridge with bottles of water. There are only two a la carte restaurants (with 1h30m waiting list, no reservations allowed) with a very limited menu that didn't change in the 7 nights we were at the resort. The options at the buffet are also limited and also remained the same for our entire stay. The personel is very nice but there is a clear lack of organization in the day-to-day operations. We felt very dissapointed with this resort and deceived by cheap caribbean. Giving this resort a 4.0 rating and comparing it to Iberostar or the Hilton feels dishonest and we filled a compaint with the BBB against Cheap Caribbean because of that.
I'm really confused how this was listed as a comparable hotel to the Hilton Rose Hall & Iberostar. We went on an excursion and picked up couples from those other hotels and the Iberostar showed 5 stars on the side of the hotel. Ours looked really sad in comparison and made me question if it was such a great deal. Overall, it was an ok trip, but all the little frustrating things really added up that only the Caribbean ocean and getting off the resort could fix. Our room had a mini fridge that they would only refill every other day. However no where on their website, brochures, etc does it say that. It was really difficult to get water whenever you wanted. I've stayed at other all inclusives that had water stations with glasses all around the resort. Here it was try to get a cup during breakfast or lunch or wait and ask the bar staff. We never had a safe to our lock box even though I asked 3 different times and was put on 2 separate lists and always promised one the following day. We also asked for a 'do not disturb' sign after we got new neighbors on our last day that insisted on making the entire floor smell like weed and knock on our door repeatedly throughout the night forgetting which one was theirs. We never got that sign. The majority of the staff was really nice. The cleaning ladies were wonderful, wait staff was polite, there were always lots of food options available. You can tell that it's still going through a lot of changes and maybe not everyone is on the same page. I'd hold off on staying here for a few more months until things settle out and you really know what kind of resort you're staying at.
