My fiancée and I stayed in the Sunscape Club section of the resort. This area was very quiet and we enjoyed having the pool to ourselves as well as a bartender. The service was very good and all of the staff were very helpful and polite. We enjoyed the beach and used all of the pools. The food was not great except for the fish but it was edible and I tried to make a point of eating unfamiliar foods daily. My only complaint was the sales pitch that was offered on our second day. We thought it was going to be a sales offer to book a future vacation. Unfortunately, it was a very pushy vacation share which was almost identical to time share opportunities. The presentation went WELL over the stated 90 minutes and I was very unhappy with the wasted time on my vacation. I had already stated that I was not interested. Do not agree to the sales pitch unless you are planning on spending an extra $9000 to purchase future weeks (1 a year) at an affiliated resort. I do not plan on returning but feel that I received good value for the money spent.
Great service, good food, good drinks, and no waiting in big lines at the bars. No waking up early to make dinner reservations. Plenty of pool and beach chairs every day so what more can be said other than it was a stress free vacation
First off I knew this resort would not be 5 star so if that's what you are expecting don't go there. Few issues one being the guys that work for Sunscape are very pushy about getting you to hear a presentation about the other resorts they have. I want to enjoy my time where I am not spend it hearing about my next trip. The restaurants that a supposed to be better then the buffets are awful, very friendly staff and beautiful to be in but the food was awful!!!!! Better food at the buffets. Then there's the vendors on the beach!!!! ALL DAY they bother you to buy their stuff!!! Wish the resort could control this issue, could not enjoy the beautiful beach because we were busy trying to get away from the vendors!!!! But overall nice place, friendly staff and rooms were clean and I felt safe being there. The guys from AMSTAR were great nice rides coming and going to the resort.
My husband and I tend to be easy going travelers. We don't expect perfection and know that things go wrong. At Sunscape first it was a few little things, but the little things kept piling up until it was a bit frustrating at the end of our trip. --our refrigerator wasn't cold while our kids fridge had a huge block of ice that had frozen over the controls so you couldn't turn it down. Everything froze. --a few room essentials were missing --the bedroom clock didn't work --They only provided 2 towels (very poor quality) and 2 hand towels- no wash cloths. --the bathroom door was made of slats instead of being solid so you had no privacy. --the shower was an open design so water just poured out onto the bathroom floor and ran under the door into the bedroom area. I had to mop up pools of water after every shower. --the shower was about 6ft. long and the only place to put your stuff was on the opposite wall of the shower. (see picture) It got cold and was a little frustrating. --There was a gap so large in our front door that I wasn't sure it would even close and lock properly. It made me very nervous. --AND the straw that broke the camels back...the balcony door to my kids room had obviously been broken into or tried to be broken into. The metal latch was bent and mangled. The door didn't even shut all the way. We didn't notice because the curtain was covering it. 3 days into our visit we discovered the problem. A very nice young man came and made a temporary fix so it was locked through the night and came back in the morning to replace the whole lock. There were good things about the hotel. --The grounds were nice and the rooms away from the pool area were quiet and peaceful. --They had some fun entertainment-nightly shows, teen game room, dance parties at the pool and my family LOVED the pool foam party. --The food was decent, nothing amazing, but something for everyone and plenty of it. --the spa facilities were really beautiful-try the dr. fish --The staff were very pleasant, however sometimes communication was tough with the language barrier. --The weather was a little rough when we were there so we didn't get to use any of the beach activities, but they looked like they were in good condition. Some of my complaints could have just been bad luck on our part, but some are property issues. I would just rather you know before you go so you aren't disappointed. All in all we enjoyed our trip.
Beautiful resort, friendly staff, great food. The only issue that I had was the noise. Seemed like there was blaring music every place you turned around and no real quiet spot, not even the beach. I had to wear ear plugs to bed at night. Just couldn't eascape loud music. If you like a party atmosphere all day and all night, then this place is perfect.
I was surprised to see that this resort was not new, and was a refreshed Barcelo Resort. The rooms were nice and the staff was truly wonderful, they made sure we were very happy to stay there. The entertainment needs a little improvement and they could use more staff in the restaurants but overall I enjoyed this resort and would recommend it. Its proximity to the golf course is excellent and made my husband very happy.
I've been to dozens of all-inclusive resorts and this was the nicest one I've been to! Room was clean and super modern with flat screen tv,,free safe and nice shower with plenty of pressure along with glass door. Beach was amazing - long and fun to walk on. Great reefs, waves and plenty of room to explore and stretch. Pools were nice with swim up bar. Lobby bar made best margaritas. Food was excellent, including great brick oven pizza, specialty restaurants and fish was superb. The staff was over the top nice and courteous. They made me fresh fish and brought it to my table everyday. Only beef was that our room was near the pool bar and the disco drunks always went there at 2 am. WAY too loud most nights. The pool bar and café should be down by the disco, not in the center of the resort. Our room was at ground zero for noise despite excellent people watching. I would suggest getting a room in the back, buildings 11-15 are more secluded and quiet. Other than that, what a great resort with lots to do for everyone. We got a fabulous deal and would definitely go again.
My husband and I stayed here for 5days/4nights. We really enjoyed the resort. The food was good, although I would have like a few more choices at night. The resort was pretty, just like in the pictures. The beach was nice too and the vendors on the beach didn't harass us after we said no. The timeshare people in the lobby were very annoying. The only thing we didn't like about the resort was the pool closed very early, around 6pm.
In a nutshell, we would return to this resort in the future! Our check-in was smooth and we felt very welcomed. However when we arrived in our room, we did not have the king size bed we had requested through Cheap Caribbean. The next day, the concierge tried to rectify the situation and we had to change rooms. It was disappointing to find out the new room was a handicap modified room and the shower only mounted at waist level and water accumulated all around the adjoining toilet area. Not sure why the shower did not have an upper mount available as well? Needless to say, we were moved back to our original room and pushing the two beds together was our only option. After this second room change, we were greeted with a small bottle of rum for our troubles. We were told the issue was that Cheap Caribbean never sent the proper bed size request to the resort. Avoid the temptation to receive free stuff or coupons in exchange for sitting through a presentation about vacation club membership. We did attend early on our first morning and it is a typical, somewhat pressured sales pitch, for which we received a $100 spa credit for each of our two rooms. This was equivalent to two free 50 minute massages. However, throughout the week, the spa offered special packages and discounted massages that essentially made our 2 hour waste of time worth only $50- not worth it!! Our "free" massages were great and we found the spa experience provided by Alicia and Carmen to be quite enjoyable! We made extensive use of the main pool every day. There was plenty of entertainment to participate in or just watch. We enjoyed throwing the football and shooting hoops in between our trips to the pool bar. We quickly learned to put our towels out to reserve chairs together because they do fill up most days. TIP: Bring your own insulated mugs for any beverages. This provides not only fewer trips to the bars, but a consistently cold drink. This was noted all over the resort and a common practice for seasoned resort vacationers. The resort beach sits at the edge of a cove about a mile across and a barrier reef at the mouth keeps the waters quite calm. We enjoyed kayaking and sailing on the Hobie catamaran free of charge. While snorkeling was also free of charge, it was disappointing to only see a few fish. We saw many complaints about the beach vendors, but personally did not find them to be pushy. We found a simple "No Thank You" was enough to have them move on and leave you be. We did take the short walk to the adjacent mall, but found the shopping available to be repetitive and not much cheaper than the gift shops available on site. If you are feeling adventurous and have the time, a local tour of Puerto Plata was recommended and the excursion to the Water Falls came highly recommended. Since we were only had 4 1/2 days at the resort, we chose to relax and enjoy the sun. We enjoyed the food in the restaurants more than the dinner buffet. The breakfast buffets were plentiful. We lunched at the snack bar by the pool every day for its convenience and excellent grilled chicken! We ate earlier than the crowds, around 6:30-7pm and never had to wait to be seated. The Cafe was excellent, always open and became a twice a day routine for us. After dinners, we enjoyed playing a game of pool, strolling around or relaxing by the pools while waiting for the evening entertainment program to begin. The lobby lounge musician was terrific, while we did not find the stage dance shows to be as entertaining. The staff at the entire resort was phenomenal! All of the bartenders worked very hard and kept up with the crowds during busy times. Wally was a favorite at the pool! Anthony out at the beach was friendly and great to be around to help with the kayaks and catamarans. Julio and Braulio always remembered our daughter's names and went out of their way to provide special attention, excellent customer service and warm hospitality. Every staff member was willing to help us learn Spanish, always greeted us with smiles and "Hola" and made sure things were "Excellente"! We can't remember ever passing by an employee that did not take the time to look up, greet you and offer assistance. The rooms are clean and spacious, but not luxurious. An in-room safe, refrigerator and balcony were the perks. Tipping: from our last all-inclusive to the DR we came expecting to tip everywhere and found the practice was rare. We did however, like others, show our appreciation from time to time when we received excellent personal service. This resort offers a lot for the price point and we would make a return trip in the future.
I had a nice experience at Sunscape hotel.Excellent customer service...Good food and very friendly and helpful employees..I definitely recommend this hotel to a friend!! Keep the good work Sunscape Hotel!
