Sunscape

THE STAFF THAT SELLS SOUVENIRS WERE VERY VERY PUSHY, INCLUDING THE STAFF THAT PRESSURE YOU INTO SIGNING UP TO STAY THERE AGAIN. THEY WERE HOUNDING US AT DAY ONE. OBVIOUSLY BECAUSE THEY NEW WE WOULDNT RETURN IF THEY ASKED US TO SIGN UP AT THE END OF OUR STAY. THE CASINO WAS A JOKE AND HAVING ALOT OF EXPERIENCE GAMBLING IN VEGAS I KNEW IMMEDIATELY THEY WERE TRYING TO SCAM US AND THERE WAS NO WAY THEY WOULD LET US WIN. WE ENDED UP TAKING TAXIS EVERYWHERE BECAUSE THE TESORT WOUPD ONLY SHUTTLE YOU TO THERE PLACES TO SHOP. OVERALL NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE. BELIZE AND COST RICA ARE FAR FAR BETTER ON EVERY LEVEL. ON THAT NOTE CHEAP CARIBBEAN WAS PLEASANT AND EASY TO WORK WITH. WE WOULD USE THEM AGAIN

If you love food and a comfy bed this is not for u

I do not normally do reviews, if great food is important to you and you do not like buffets this would not be the place for you. Food was bland and the raw veggies made us sick.....we heard they were grown in manure and not washed properly- this is word of mouth only! BUT we did have some digestive issues after eating them. things to note- The resort is clean outside of the resort the city itself is very dirty - garbage bags and litter everywhere, lots of poverty and people trying to get you into stores or sell you things, beware of scams! The employees are insistent on tips you will not get service without giving them......A dollar or two, plan on bringing at least a 100-150 in $1 and $5 with you for tips. If you don't say you want alcohol in your drinks they will give you virgins and all the liquor is watered down. Spend a little more for the Sun Club it will be worth it. You will not get seafood on the resort there are restaurants nearby - if you like great food try them! The beds are super hard.,.if you have a comfy bed you will be disappointed! Also- they will try to sell you a trip package right off the back as soon as you get there they will set an appointment- you don't have to go! We would not return..... but there were a few good points! Jose and Michelle at the pool bar in the Sun Club were great - and we met some great people! We also had great messages from Margarita! And it was warm and the beach was beautiful!

Good value, great staff, lots of fun for the kids

Food options could be better, night show could be much better, everything else is great. Totally renovated hotel, everything brand new. Wonderful service, great pool, wonderful staff. A few tips will go a long way to get better drinks and even better service at the food stations. Highly recommended

Amazing resort

We decided to do the deal of fortune this time, which means you have no idea where you will be going until a week before you leave, a little scary but the deal stated the resorts are all 4 Palm trees or more. They do tell you the 4 different choices you may be staying at and we had already stayed at 1 of them and it was great so thought what the heck, made it kinda fun and you get a good deal. I'll start with the FREE Wifi through out the resort! Although being on vacation is about staying off the technology and spending time together there is some downtime in the evenings and if you're like me, you like to post a few pics on social media for all your friends back home. The staff was amazing, the place was recently remodeled and had only been open 3/4 weeks when we got there so everyone is pretty new and really excited about their new jobs, so friendly and helpful with all you need. A little language barrier with some staff but with the main Amigos you need to talk with (bar backs, check in, entertainment, servers) They speak fluent English. The grounds are still growing and being worked on but I know in a few months it'll look like the place has been open for years. The pools were very nice, lots of activities throughout the day. They have 3 different pools, one sport activity busy pool, one more laid back and one thats away from all the action thats really laid back. The ocean is beautiful, only complaint here is that its on the Atlantic side of the Island, therefore not as clear and a little more rough. They do have wave breakers so you and your children can get in with no problems. Food and rooms were good, no reservations to eat so that made us really happy that we could eat at any restaurant whenever we wanted or twice if we wanted to (which we did, Japanese Hibachi) So all in all a great trip, too short of course when you come home to snow. I would recommend!

Overall a nice resort

We stayed for 7 nights starting on Feb 11 , resort is now 99% completed with the recent renovations. We have stayed at worse resorts but also stayed at much better , think the price we paid , $2000 total for both including air from Michigan , made this week at Sunscape easy to make this a 4 out of 5 rating. We were in the Sun Club portion of this resort which does help a lot , some nice perks come with the Sun Club .

Best Vacay ever, money well spent

Truly one of the most memorable moments of my life. I dont travel often, so this was a big deal and Sunscape most definitely delivered. The staff was the best part, I cannot say anything negative about any one of them. Everyone that walks past you says Hola or Buen dia. Check in literally took less than 5 minutes and I was served a drink on the spot while I waited. The grounds and beach are super clean, plenty of spots to sit or lay to chill. Good entertainment. I cannot say enough good things about this place. The food, omg. The hibachi spot was the best spot. Drinks were always flowing. I would absolutely come back, next time I am getting the sun pass for an even better experience. If I had to say anything negative, it would be that my fridge wasnt restocked daily (first world problems). Everything else got a 5 star rating.

Great bang for your buck

We booked Deal of fortune which guaranteed we would be in 1 of 4 resorts.after finding out we were going to the Sunscape and looking at trip adviser we became a little worried. They just reopened and looked as if they were having lots of issues. Check in people were saying it was so slow but we were in our room in 15 minutes and they were actually telling people to move faster that were checking in.The beach is not the best storms have caused a lot of erosion as far as being clean people had said there was sea weed and it wasn't clean but every morning there were 12 - 15 workers raking the beach. Pools are very clean. Rooms were very nice and updated Food was good in Buffet ,Steak at the grill Chopsticks.Pizzeria excelente. As for the French and Italian they need help . Drinks were average once in awhile you get a bad one but its AI dump it and go to someone different. Overall I was very impressed with just about everyone that worked there they work there but off to try and make your vacation as good as possible. i also feel they were working hard at correcting all the complaints on trip adviser.

good resort for the money

resort was nice and large because you get to use both sunscape dominican and bavaro properties. Beach had erosion issues which kinda sucked and in certain spots of the property theres was a foul odor of a sewage problem the resort had. Lots of meal choices to choose from but the drinks at the beach were low budget, cheap brands which you could really taste. Room was excellent with hot tub! Very good waitresses at the pool that serve you in a timely manner.

Very clean resort with 95% VERY friendly staff!! Pool area really nice, pretty beach .. . .. could use : better food in the " specialty" restaurants ( except the Japanese - that was very good.) The buffet food was quite good. The bars/ drinks were excellent! The room was very nice ( but no hot water sometimes and they didn't always replace things used like towels, cream, etc) THe beds are WAY too hard. They should put " spring break" people in one area and non late night partiers in a different one. Several people in our group had sleepless nights due to partying/ loud people. The check in procedure was HORRIBLE!!!! We arrived at 5 and did not all have rooms until 9 or 10 that night. Although they put us in the Sun Club ( which was great ) we had to fight for our coupons!! Overall GREAT vacation!

Good once you get past the sales pitch

We really enjoyed the Sunscape. It was clean, the service and food were great, and we were able to swim the entire time. The beach could have been nicer (there's a big drop down to the ocean due to erosion), but overall it was a great vacation. The initial impression however continues to leave a bad taste in my mouth. When we first arrived, it was obvious they just wanted to get us to buy a timeshare at the resort. We were supposed to receive $200 in resort vouchers on check-in, but were told by the resort staff that we wouldn't receive them until we attended breakfast to learn more about the upgrade options. We knew we didn't want to upgrade, so we skipped this breakfast. Well, the guy found us when we were leaving the already included breakfast to ask us why we didn't go to the sales breakfast. Then another guy found us on the beach to ask the same question. For the first 24-48 hours, they found repeatedly to ask us about upgrading and attending this sales breakfast. Then, the worst part was when we got back to our room, there was a notification slid under the door asking for our return flight info and implying that they would cancel our return flight if we didn't attend their sales pitch. Finally, on check out, they ask you to fill out a survey about the resort and your experience. I was filling it out honestly, but there was a woman standing next to me asking me why I was being critical of certain aspects. I told her I'd like to fill out the survey without her looking over my shoulder, but I can only imagine that people are pressured to be more positive when they're being watched! I enjoyed the vacation, but if I were to return to the Dominican Republic, I would go to another resort where they don't harass you as much.
