Not sure what else you need...

By no means a perfect resort, but as far as Dominican Resorts go it suited us perfectly. The value was incredible, booked the Deal of Fortune, was placed here and was happy as it looked like a newer resort. By the comments of the other resorts we were more willing to deal with issues a new resort would have (i.e. hot tubs not being hot) rather than the types of issues an old resort would have (i.e. musty moldy rooms). Service was great, staff went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed the entire trip. Beach and Pools were Average as compared to other Dominican beaches and pools. With that said, it's still an AWESOME place to spend a couple days. The beach is eroding severely and they have placed man made sandbars (made of plastic) in the ocean to calm the waves... made a calmer ocean behind them for us to lounge in. Dining was meh. As all DR resorts are. Chopsticks was great, I could eat a stir fry every night and almost did while I was there. Best part of this resort is no weekly limit on restaurants, if we went to one that wasn't great or quantity wasn't enough, we went back to buffet or the pizza bar. There was certainly enough to fill up on. Room was standard. Thought the AC could have been stronger, but I like sleeping in a freezer, my gf was happy it was in fact not a freezer in the room (though setting was set as low as possible). Could have also just been our room. All in all - if you can't enjoy it here, you're a miserable person who was going to have issues anywhere you went. I will say, the resort/these vacation companies were RELENTLESS with excursion type sales pitches. Just be polite, that if you are interested, you'll find them. Other than that, when you check in, just say no to the "VIP breakfast" - ask to go to your room immediately.

Overall a nice resort

We stayed for 7 nights starting on Feb 11 , resort is now 99% completed with the recent renovations. We have stayed at worse resorts but also stayed at much better , think the price we paid , $2000 total for both including air from Michigan , made this week at Sunscape easy to make this a 4 out of 5 rating. We were in the Sun Club portion of this resort which does help a lot , some nice perks come with the Sun Club .

If you love food and a comfy bed this is not for u

I do not normally do reviews, if great food is important to you and you do not like buffets this would not be the place for you. Food was bland and the raw veggies made us sick.....we heard they were grown in manure and not washed properly- this is word of mouth only! BUT we did have some digestive issues after eating them. things to note- The resort is clean outside of the resort the city itself is very dirty - garbage bags and litter everywhere, lots of poverty and people trying to get you into stores or sell you things, beware of scams! The employees are insistent on tips you will not get service without giving them......A dollar or two, plan on bringing at least a 100-150 in $1 and $5 with you for tips. If you don't say you want alcohol in your drinks they will give you virgins and all the liquor is watered down. Spend a little more for the Sun Club it will be worth it. You will not get seafood on the resort there are restaurants nearby - if you like great food try them! The beds are super hard.,.if you have a comfy bed you will be disappointed! Also- they will try to sell you a trip package right off the back as soon as you get there they will set an appointment- you don't have to go! We would not return..... but there were a few good points! Jose and Michelle at the pool bar in the Sun Club were great - and we met some great people! We also had great messages from Margarita! And it was warm and the beach was beautiful!

THE STAFF THAT SELLS SOUVENIRS WERE VERY VERY PUSHY, INCLUDING THE STAFF THAT PRESSURE YOU INTO SIGNING UP TO STAY THERE AGAIN. THEY WERE HOUNDING US AT DAY ONE. OBVIOUSLY BECAUSE THEY NEW WE WOULDNT RETURN IF THEY ASKED US TO SIGN UP AT THE END OF OUR STAY. THE CASINO WAS A JOKE AND HAVING ALOT OF EXPERIENCE GAMBLING IN VEGAS I KNEW IMMEDIATELY THEY WERE TRYING TO SCAM US AND THERE WAS NO WAY THEY WOULD LET US WIN. WE ENDED UP TAKING TAXIS EVERYWHERE BECAUSE THE TESORT WOUPD ONLY SHUTTLE YOU TO THERE PLACES TO SHOP. OVERALL NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE. BELIZE AND COST RICA ARE FAR FAR BETTER ON EVERY LEVEL. ON THAT NOTE CHEAP CARIBBEAN WAS PLEASANT AND EASY TO WORK WITH. WE WOULD USE THEM AGAIN

Amazing resort

We decided to do the deal of fortune this time, which means you have no idea where you will be going until a week before you leave, a little scary but the deal stated the resorts are all 4 Palm trees or more. They do tell you the 4 different choices you may be staying at and we had already stayed at 1 of them and it was great so thought what the heck, made it kinda fun and you get a good deal. I'll start with the FREE Wifi through out the resort! Although being on vacation is about staying off the technology and spending time together there is some downtime in the evenings and if you're like me, you like to post a few pics on social media for all your friends back home. The staff was amazing, the place was recently remodeled and had only been open 3/4 weeks when we got there so everyone is pretty new and really excited about their new jobs, so friendly and helpful with all you need. A little language barrier with some staff but with the main Amigos you need to talk with (bar backs, check in, entertainment, servers) They speak fluent English. The grounds are still growing and being worked on but I know in a few months it'll look like the place has been open for years. The pools were very nice, lots of activities throughout the day. They have 3 different pools, one sport activity busy pool, one more laid back and one thats away from all the action thats really laid back. The ocean is beautiful, only complaint here is that its on the Atlantic side of the Island, therefore not as clear and a little more rough. They do have wave breakers so you and your children can get in with no problems. Food and rooms were good, no reservations to eat so that made us really happy that we could eat at any restaurant whenever we wanted or twice if we wanted to (which we did, Japanese Hibachi) So all in all a great trip, too short of course when you come home to snow. I would recommend!

SOOOO glad we said YES!

This resort was money well spent! All-inclusive was great. There are no reservations at the restaurants but there IS a waitlist because of this, so get there early or be prepared to grab a drink for awhile and wait for a seat (unless you eat at the buffets or beach grills, of course!) No free Wi-Fi, but it is only $40 for the week, so enjoy being disconnected for a few days or pay a small fee. :) This beach is on the Atlantic side of the island, but if you do any excursions, boat trips/tours, the Caribbean side is only 1.5 hours or so away. The Caribbean is a bit calmer of course. The beach was still enjoyable at the resort! LOVED our escape to the Dominican Republic! If a company called AMSTAR tries to contact you when you get to the resort, answer the call! It is the same company as CheapCaribbean.com! We ignored it because we didn't know who they were, but they were simply trying to set up our departure travel back to the airport!

Worst vacation ever! This hotel was completely boring. Pools and bars closed at 7pm. Nothing to do at all! Food is terrible. Drink are weak! Can't communicate with any staff!

Disappointing Deal of Fortune

We chose to book the Deal of Fortune and ended up at Sunscape Dominican Beach. I am a huge fan of reading reviews before we travel to a place. While on this trip, I counted that this was my 15th all-inclusive vacation. While doing my typical research prior to vacationing, I was very excited about Sunscape. Reviews sounded great! Minor complaints, but some people just can’t be pleased. Though we made the best of our trip, I would not return to this property and wish it would be removed from a choice on the Deal of Fortune as it is not a comparable to the other 3 resorts offered. In our group, there were 6 adults and 2 children, ages 18 months and 4 ½ years. I will be completely honest in my review. Cons: We did not have hot water for 3 days in our room, even after calling and being reassured they would take care of it immediately. This was not okay with 2 sleepy kiddos at shower time. My in-laws (and my husband and I actually) requested a king sized bed. A request of course, but we’ve never had this denied. Neither of these were granted. I didn’t really care too bad for our room, but my in-laws weren’t thrilled. They asked to be moved and they front desk said that wasn’t an option unless they paid for an upgrade. Bull. There is no way the resort was full. So that was frustrating. My in-laws also had a horrible air conditioner. They called for 3 days to get it fixed after sweating horribly while sleeping. Each time being told “no problem” and someone would be up right away. No one ever took care of it. They finally got moved to a new room…with a king sized bed. We all know that sometimes things don’t work. Same thing happens in the states. But try to actually fix it or please the customer. The hotel randomly closed pools, restaurants, and areas around the resort to perform photoshoots for at least a whole day if not more. To ensure guests didn't use certain areas they had yellow caution tape up. It looked super tacky! I assume for advertisement, but we paid to use the resort and were unable to. We were even given a letter to stay in our room one day from 8-10am so they could perform an aerial photo of the property. Outdoor activities were not offered during this time. 8-10am is breakfast time for our kiddos. Not cool. The bartenders at the pool bar obviously did not enjoy their job. My family is pretty happy and easy to please. We love to bond with staff on resorts. Makes it fun! We come with a stack of $1 to tip for good service. We struggled to use much because they just didn’t act like they even cared to be there. Two nights that we were there, vendors came onto the property to sell their merchandise. I typically enjoy this. I like to see their products and often get souvenirs from them. But, they were so pushy! I’m always kind to say “no thank you” when I’m not interested and am typically left alone. They were incredibly pushy. Even went as far as to grab my hand to take me to their table. Very frustrating. We aren’t too hard to please when it comes to food. We eat a lot and enjoy it. All inclusive places typically have a lot of the same foods…some really good, some really bad, and some mediocre. We are aware of this. But my kiddos had very limited options. They don’t like a lot of foods, but could live on pizza, pasta, chicken nuggets, hot dogs…you know, junk! Lol. But I didn’t see a chicken nugget the whole week, neither of them liked the hot dogs (and neither did I). There was no pizza to be found at the buffet at night. They pretty much had pasta and bread at every dinner. The buffet just had very limited options for everyone. The adults were fine, but I just hated it for my kids. The staff at the resort were pushy about wanting guests to post reviews on social media. My opinion, if you are good at your job you will get positive feedback. Don’t ask me to do that or insist you will lose your job if you don’t get excellent reviews. We rarely got drinks at the buffet. There was only 1 buffet open at breakfast, so that was the only choice. We would typically eventually at least get water. But we just got our own so we could get a drink. We do serve ourselves at home, but it’s nice to get water, juice, or milk with our breakfast. The pools weren’t crazy clean. The first 4-5 days of our trip, the water level in the main pool didn’t even reach the skimmers because it was so low. Therefore, debris floating on top had nowhere to go. So depending on where we hung out in the pool, we were pushing stuff out of our way. Gross. Continuing with the cleanliness of the pools...we spent most of our pool time at the main pool. It opened at 9am. Pool cleaning didn’t start until 8:45am or later. This is a pretty big pool with lots of trees around it. So there were lots of leaves and stuff in the pool. Loved the shade for myself and my kids, so dealt with the leaves. But I couldn’t believe they didn’t have the pool cleaned before people got in. There are huge geo-tubes (giant sand bags) in the ocean for the entire area of the beach in front of the resort. A bit of an eyesore, but it kept the waves down. So that was a pro with kiddos. We did know they had the geo-tubes and have stayed at places with those before, so we knew what to expect. But some people may not be happy with that view. Wasn’t pretty for pictures, but good for waves! Some of the beach is pretty eroded (hence the need for the geo-tubes), but they’ve done a lot to repair a lot of the beach. We found plenty of space to play and build sandcastles! Housekeeping was unpredictable. They would come at anytime during the day. Not a huge deal since we are gone from like 8am-6pm enjoying the rest of the property. But one night they weren’t there until sometime after 7pm while we were gone to dinner. So we had to go searching for towels and wash clothes for a shower before dinner. The staff had a hard time finding any. How is that possibly? They obviously hadn’t cleaned a lot of rooms so there should be 4 towels for my family to take a shower. Pretty tile floors in the room. Great for cleaning purposes, but not for damp or wet feet. Our babe probably fell 4 or 5 times. The shower was huge! With a rain showerhead and a handle that you could remove from the wall. Floors in the shower were so slick! I put a towel on the floor to shower the kids because the babe fell numerous times in the shower too. The glass shower door was just a partial wall. So the floors got soaked! Again, super slick! We had towels everywhere to keep us from falling. The hotel website said the only wi-fi available was an extra charge. We found out on like day 4 or 5 that that wasn't entirely true. If you went into the theater, there was free wi-fi. If you wanted wi-fi throughout the resort and in your room, there was a fee. Pros: Small resort so we were able to walk the entire property. For some, this could be a con but with the kiddos it was great. Load them up in the stroller and go! No need to wait for a trolley to get us around. There wasn’t one anyway, but it wasn’t necessary with the size of the resort. There’s a pool right at this ocean! Love that breeze in the pool while looking at the gorgeous ocean. And a beach bar right there! There are a few different pools. Loud, quiet, family, mainly adult...plenty of options to please any type of person! The drinks from the bar were pretty good. Lots of options. And pretty quick to get served. We had 1 great server at dinner at the buffet, Marceila I believe was his name. We are Americans and we LOVE our ice cold drinks! Those are hard to find in many destinations. We know this. But we sure love it when we get ice! This server kept the ice coming, the water, and any other drinks we had. It was great. We were disappointed we only had him once. Staff were great to our kids! Many of them obviously love kiddos and I could feel it. My kids loved the attention too. Belkis is a server at the buffet and she loved our little one. Came over every time she saw us regardless of where we sat to talk with him. It was sweet. The rooms were kept clean. Newly remodeled, so overall it was pretty fresh. We had a nice balcony with table and chairs. The kids loved sitting out there and hearing birds and seeing the ocean off to the side. We even sat out here one night for a bit during a thurderstorm. It was nice. Lots of shade! Shade on walkways and in the pools. We would have to move around to stay in the shade, but it was always available. To get into some of the pools there was a walkin area that gradually got deeper. It had a good texture on it so it wasn’t slick. The boys loved running in and jumping into the water. Some of the water is super shallow! It worked out really handy. We could sit in the pool while the kids could both reach. And there were also deep areas in the same pool that would be chest high. We all liked the options within the same pool. Our favorite restaurants were the Hibachi at the show table. In fact we went twice! We love pizza, so we grabbed lunch there a few days and ate by the pool. We also enjoyed the steakhouse by the beach. It was really nice sitting there and seeing the ocean with the great beach breeze! Overall, we made the best of our vacation. We had sand, sun, drinks, food, and a comfortable room. But I have stayed at much nicer for less money. I have been to Punta Cana 3 times and this will be our last time. For the money, we prefer to go to Riviera Maya.

Best Vacay ever, money well spent

Truly one of the most memorable moments of my life. I dont travel often, so this was a big deal and Sunscape most definitely delivered. The staff was the best part, I cannot say anything negative about any one of them. Everyone that walks past you says Hola or Buen dia. Check in literally took less than 5 minutes and I was served a drink on the spot while I waited. The grounds and beach are super clean, plenty of spots to sit or lay to chill. Good entertainment. I cannot say enough good things about this place. The food, omg. The hibachi spot was the best spot. Drinks were always flowing. I would absolutely come back, next time I am getting the sun pass for an even better experience. If I had to say anything negative, it would be that my fridge wasnt restocked daily (first world problems). Everything else got a 5 star rating.

Great bang for your buck

We booked Deal of fortune which guaranteed we would be in 1 of 4 resorts.after finding out we were going to the Sunscape and looking at trip adviser we became a little worried. They just reopened and looked as if they were having lots of issues. Check in people were saying it was so slow but we were in our room in 15 minutes and they were actually telling people to move faster that were checking in.The beach is not the best storms have caused a lot of erosion as far as being clean people had said there was sea weed and it wasn't clean but every morning there were 12 - 15 workers raking the beach. Pools are very clean. Rooms were very nice and updated Food was good in Buffet ,Steak at the grill Chopsticks.Pizzeria excelente. As for the French and Italian they need help . Drinks were average once in awhile you get a bad one but its AI dump it and go to someone different. Overall I was very impressed with just about everyone that worked there they work there but off to try and make your vacation as good as possible. i also feel they were working hard at correcting all the complaints on trip adviser.
