I had to change vacation plans last minute and ended up at Sunscape Cove with my two daughters (9 and 11). It's not a bad place, and it's reasonably priced. The kids had a great time. I don't think I'd go again, but it's a nice beach, and the property has plenty of things to do. I can share some things you need to be okay with if you're going to go here. I will sound like I'm complaining, but I'm not really. None of it particularly bothered me. First, we paid for an ocean view room. When we got into the room, the view was of the rooms opposite so I assumed there had been a mistake. I went an asked if we were in the wrong room, and was told that it was a partial ocean view, and that if I went onto the balcony and looked out to the left I would be able to see the sea. When I went back into the room I found that if I leaned over the balcony I could see the sea to the left, but this isn't really what you expect for ocean view. That seemed a bit dishonest. The room was fine - a little shabby and there were a few tiny ants occasionally, but everything worked and the beds were fine. Food and beverages on the whole was average. Nothing to complain about, but nothing special One thing I will say, is that the problem with an all-inclusive is that if you find that there are obstacles to you actually getting what you feel you paid for it does start to annoy you. In the case of drinks the bars were usually understaffed, so you had to wait a long time to get drinks. Similarly, the restaurants, as opposed to the buffets, sometimes had very long queues that discouraged you from eating there and pushed you back to the buffet. Sometimes this was because only parts of the restaurants were open, reducing available seating. And the buffets were understaffed and understocked so that numerous food items ran out and if you arrived late you were left with limited choices. The waterpark and slides were a lot of fun and my kids loved them. The tennis instructor was slightly grumpy but was very good with my kids and they loved that too. The only other feedback I'd give is that the staff probably need some training as their attitude to interacting with guests was very variable. Some were lovely and a real pleasure to engage with. Others were just surly, and looked shocked or annoyed if you said good morning to them or something. I don't really mind, but it does show this place needs some work. Overall, I had a good time and so did my kids. It's ok, and the price is probably fair. But I've been to better.
As soon as we walked into the lobby at Sunscape Cove we were greeted by the friendly staff. The bell men would not let us lift a finger and the rum punch that they brought us at the reception desk was a perfect start to our vacation! The room was very clean and our sliding door opened right out to the beach. The bed was a bit firm for my taste, but you can't please everyone when it comes to that! There were so many beach options and service staff to deliver you drinks no matter which section of the beach you chose. Great food selection and awesome poolside activities were available daily. I would highly recommend spending the extra money to stay on the cove side. Having access to the Cove's top shelf bar and the two extra restaurants there was really nice. Room service was also a plus that the cove side offered but was not available on the splash side. It was quiet on the Cove side which we loved but it was nice to go over to the splash side and participate in the activities with the families as well. Thi resort gave a great mix of couples feel and family fun. It was a quick ride from the airport and the staff was absolutely inviting. Such a great trip for the money. I would highly recommend trying it out!
The customer service is priceless. They pamper you so much it's like your the king of a palace. I will do it all over again. No regrets! I will say that they need to increase the number of top shelf liquors...more premium liquors.
The resort was nice not too big and not over crowded. The staff at the resort was wonderful ! !! From the moment you get there you feel like you are with family . Every person we met was so nice . The food at the Italian restaurant was fantastic ! And the oxtail for dinner were delicious ! Drinks were very good , definitely did not skip on the rum. The beach was nice and the water was beautiful . All in all I would recommend this resort to anyone that wants a nice relaxing vacation .
My husband and I travel every year to someplace different, so we are seasoned travelers. Every resort has good things, and not so great things.I really had no major complaints. Vacation is what YOU make it, its not the size of the resort room, the dinner that takes too long, the beach that has a few rocks,...... I think people that gave bad reviews at this place don't know how to relax and let things go. Your not in America, remember, this is their way of life. Sunscape Cove Resort had some really nice features. We had a concierge (Owayne) checking in. We sat in comfy chairs while he took care of everything, including getting us a cold towel and rum drink! Check in was very easy! We were in our rooms by 1:30. Owayne had a great sense of humor, we talked with him a lot during the week! Rooms were decent size, bed was very comfortable, Loved the balcony! The bathroom was very small though. We actually spent very little time in the room, we changed our clothes and slept there. Renee our housekeeper did an awesome job keeping our room clean! The food at the buffet was ok, nothing great, but the ala cart restaurants were really good! Being on the cove side we had an extra lounge, bar and restaurant. The bartender on the cove side, Lenwood, made the BEST drinks!!! Vinroy played cards and straw tricks with us at the bar. He was a riot! One night we had so much fun sitting at the bar with these guys we closed the place down. The cove side also had a private beach, there was never more than 12 people on it!! I really felt like we had the beach to ourselves. The beach entering the water was a little rocky, but we came for the snorkeling. It was incredible!! One of the best we've been to. Not tons of fish, but huge varieties, balloon fish, rays, eels, jelly fish, barracuda, really cool stuff!! Another cool thing we did was get tubes from the water park side and bring them to the beach. We found rope and tied ourselves to the buoys and just floated all week!! We also had an awesome bartender, Nicholas. He brought us drinks without us even asking. I felt like he really took care of us! He was such a nice guy!! There was a jerk chicken stand next to the bar outside. AMAZING!! We ate chicken and festival bread every day! I can't say enough about the staff at this resort. They were friendly and actually remembered who we were all week! We never hung out at the pools, what a waste of a perfect beach. I felt very safe at this resort and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to anyone!
Overall my husband and I enjoyed our stay at the Cove. Having the ability to indulge in both amenities at the Cove and the sister hotel - Splash was a plus! Both the Cove and the Splash are very family friendly and we could see ourselves bringing the kids. For those looking for a powdery beach, unfortunately this is not it. Although the view from our ocean-side room was breathtaking, once on the beach I literally had to tiptoe around small pebbles, large rocks and shells. The beach was cleaned of other debri around the clock yet it's a pebble beach so be prepared to protect your toes. The food options were especially good at the Seaside Grill and Portofino. Most of the restaurants have a rotating schedule which for us worked out because we always tried something new. Must say though it was a bit disappointing to not have many authentic Jamaican dishes; oxtail, escovietch fish, or even rice and peas. There is a jerk chicken cart which was good but limited from food options and was a distance away. Also, there was a "Jamaican night" at the Windows buffet yet one restaurant dedicated to the delicious cuisine of Jamaica should really be added to the resort. Overall the staff was very accommodating and they were genuinely happy to be there for us. Be sure though to bring tip money as this wasn't the overall tone yet some of the staff, tour guides and drivers do expect tips. Special acknowledgments to Lorna, Archie, and Javaine. You brought the best out of our trip! Lorna took care of our room change seamlessly upon our arrival, Archie assisted us with our bags and made us feel like family while our new friend Javaine served superb drinks with great jokes. Thank you Sunscape family for making our trip memorable!
Seems to be run cheaply. We stayed on the cove side. Had to request for drinks for our minibar constantly. Not a big deal, but annoying. Constant construction. Lots of noise. Seems some rooms were remodeled, but not finished. Ex. Toilet roll holder wasn't put together. The hairdryer was not hung on the wall, but it was made to hang on the wall. So, if one wanted to use it, the short chord from the plug to the wall mount would just dangle when plugged in, which was a hassle because the plug would fall out of the outlet while using it. The ac thermostat control did not work properly. We got it to work on one setting, medium, which didn't keep up with the heat during the day. The restaurants do not require reservations, which is bad for a family. Why? In order to eat at an ala carte restaurant, one had to show up at 6-6:30, in order to be seated immediately. At most 2 ala carte restaurants were open a night, but this was unusual. Usually only one was open, so the competition was high after 6:30 to be seated. After 6:30, the wait was from :45 to an hour minimum. The food at the restaurants was ok at best. I thought breakfast was best. The dinner food was good enough to eat most nights. I couldn't eat the steak. I saw others send theirs back as well. We ate at Gohan, decent...terrace, ok-not great...da Mario, again just ok. I'm not very picky, but wow, I was shocked. The calamari seemed to be microwaved. The steak was cooked well done, regardless of how it was asked to be cooked. The jerk chicken was bland. The jerk sausage, which is supposed to be a bit tougher than a normally cooked pork sausage, was literally hard throughout. I broke it in half, not sure that was cooked correctly. I thought the house wine was good. The buffet was, well a buffet, with not much change throughout the week. I thought the staff were very, very nice. They were helpful when you asked for something, although some things had to be waited on, but that is normal anywhere, so not a big deal. I think the main problem overall was that the staff were not given the tools to provide a top notch experience. For example, the food they were given to prepare was of poor quality, but they did the best they or anyone else could with what they had to work. And the drinks, top shelf? Sorry, it's the same throughout the entire resort, unless you think jack Daniels is better than Jim beam. Bottom line, lower one's expectations to a 2 1/2 star resort, so you aren't too disappointed.
This was my first time out of the country and I had a blast at Sunscape Cove! It was super nice and they had lots of dining options, and their bartenders were super fun and could be super generous with how strong your drinks were! Great price and I feel like I got my money's worth, the spa was a little outdated but still amazing and super relaxing! They might want to maintain their pool a little more, as there was a couple lights in the lazy river coming out of the walls. Still very clean and not crowded though! The staff was super friendly and helpful with everything we needed to know, and had great hospitality skills. One other complaint, but it's minor as the smell faded away quickly was that our room smelled like pot almost every evening we came back to get ready for dinner. We didn't know if it was connected to a vent in some break room, it wasn't awful or extremely potent it was just kind of annoying.
Nice resort, the staff was exceptionally nice. Beach was ok, you can go snorkeling from there, however I recommend the snorkeling tour for $40. The kayaks were free to use as well as the paddle board. All in all we had a great time there.
From looking at the pictures of the resort I decided this was where I wanted to spend my vacation. However upon checking into the resort and getting to my room I notice several things that can be improved, the bathroom being one. It's needs a good update. The food options were basic, the Asian restaurant was horrible the shrimp for the sushi tasted spoiled. I left there and when to the buffet to the pasta station I had dinner the night before it was a mediocre buffet. All the food I had during my stay was very bland especially for an island know for its food. Customer service was average nothing to write home about. I would like to see better
