The hotel is really nice . However during my stay, it was raining almost every day . The staff was practically useless . When we first came in I could have sworn that the people at the receptionists didn't even wanted to check us in EVEN THOUGH I made eye contact and ask for his help . Took us about 20 minutes to finally get checked in . There isn't much to do . They have a night club is basically just a room with lights and empty . We went there twice Friday and Saturday and both nights it was dead . The performances are all a bunch of teenagers that probably came up with the dance routine the morning of . They did had vendors out in Friday night to sell you whatever they had . Necklaces , artifacts . So if you wanted a peaceful walk around that night, that idea is out the windows . Never been in a resort were they let the vendors in . Usually it's outside of the hotel , so yes it very annoying . The food well it was a buffet like the ones would you have almost anywhere. If you want to try authentic Dominican food you won't get it here . There were so many employee however when you ask for assistance or even an umbrella for they will come to some pathetic reason as to why not . The wifi is horrible and pricey . So don't expect to post you beach picture to Instagram or Facebook until you come back home . The concerige and the company that was in charge of out trip amstar was not helpful at all . Using this website to book my trip had to be the worst part . For some reason they couldn't find us . Even thought I had the booking number and brought all the confirmation papers . When it came to go back to the airport the my ride never came to the hotel even though I confirmed everything the day after I checked in early in the morning . Waited 2 and half hours to finally get a taxi . So no. I wouldn't come back . Nor would I book with this company .
Had a great trip. The people are very nice especially the locals. Got a great deal and the resort was great. The daily entertainment was very good, there is never a dull moment. The only complain I would have is that there are companies set up there to try to sell you other stuff/tours/ next trip. It's their job so no complaints but you kind of ask for it when you go to a tourist resort. Otherwise, all the staff was super friendly and they really went beyond to make your experience a great one. I would recommend for everyone to walk around the nearby town as well. It's super safe and nice to see.
I just got back from my honeymoon on 1/21/17, and had a great time at Sunscape Bavaro Beach. Being a new resort, I had many hesitations but all in all, it was a good trip. PROS: 1. The entertainment team was outstanding, and there were plenty of daily activities to keep you busy (if you wanted). They offered everything from various fitness classes (land and water--even paddle board!), rum tasting, horseshoes, sand castle competitions, pool games, foam party, and beach volleyball, and this doesn't begin to touch the list. The resort has a daily listing ("Sundial") that you can pick up from the lobby. The resort also has kayaks, snorkeling equipment and paddle boards to use in the ocean. 2. Pools/beach. The pools are wonderful, and you never had to fight for a chair. There are a few big inflatables for the kids to play with in the pool. The beach has plenty of chairs, but unfortunately has had erosion problems caused by storms which means there are geotubes in the water. Neighboring beaches did not have this problem, which is unfortunately for Sunscape. While we were there, they did have part of the beach sectioned off for safety concerns (falling palm trees) but they are doing what they can. 3. Grounds. There were a few areas where the staff was working, but for the most part, the grounds are beautiful, and will only continue to get better. The resort is a perfect size, and not too big or small. Security was always on the resort and beach, so you always felt safe. 4. Staff. Most were friendly and always offered a "hola" as you walked by. We only had a few times where there was a language barrier, but otherwise everyone was incredibly kind and worked hard. 5. Drinks. Plentiful and cold. On occasion the various bars did not have the ingredients for their 'specialty drinks', but they have plenty of options. On occasion, a bar would have a premium liquor bottle, but that was not consistent (or expected). CONS: 1. Restaurants. I hate to even bring this up because I by no means starved on the trip, and had ample options (vegetarian, seafood allergy) however, the first few nights of the trip were dismal with the restaurant system. We had hour waits (some restaurants have a buzzer system, so it wasn't a big deal) but once you were seated, it took 15-20 minutes for anyone to acknowledge you were there. We had to ask for water and menus, and once food was ordered, it would sometimes take another hour for it to be delivered to your table. At almost every restaurant the food was lukewarm or cold. There was only 1 evening out of 7 that our order was correct (usually immediately corrected), but night after night it was frustrating. We found the closer to the opening of the restaurant we went, the better the service was. We had the best luck (and food) at the Habachi restaurant. The only buffet that was open while we were there was tasty for the most part, and there were plenty of options. The pizza shop was a fun go-to every evening. 2. Rooms. The rooms are nicely decorated, clean, and have ample space, and we were one of the "lucky ones" to have hot water and no sewage smell (a general joke with other vacationers). Our safe did not work, and on 3 different days our room key didn't work which meant walking back to the lobby. Everything was fixed, but, little nuances.
Stayed Feb 17-22nd Travel-all inclusive site here for our all inclusive travel, would highly recommend the personal transport option worth the extra money, keeps you from having to sit on a big bus and have multiple stops before your destination especially when going back to the airport. Great travel guide also. Get your Travel card before traveling online saved us probably an hour in line upon arrival just walk right past those who didn't get it Check In-Bell boy meets you at the car takes your bags and go cart ride to your room and drives you around the resort for a tour, be sure to tip him us cash they are very appreciative. Fast check in very friendly and happy staff. Wifi-Only free in the rooms for sunclub members not worth the upgrade price, but free in the lobby. After check in, They send you to the concierge table to get your coupons which were included in our package BUT-that is really a "come to our meeting the next morning to talk about our other hotels and discount you can get if you join" discussion. JUST SAY NO, take your coupons and walk away. Not worth spending your morning being talked into getting cash out of you when there are so many all inclusive websites out there AND you could be enjoying a buffet w your mimosa and family. You get your coupons anyway, don't need the Extra Casino coupons or T-shirt. Casino-VERY tiny and empty in there. The roulette wheel is a scam. Stay out of there don't worry about the $10 black jack coupons they give you. The house wins every time! Your wife/partner will thank you later. Room-Tropical view, water, beer, champagne, a few cokes in the fridge-all included. Fresh fruit on the table great after a long trip. Had a king size bed only two of us, very clean room slight mold/wet smell but barely noticed it. Bathroom a bit small but nice. Stayed on second floor bldg. 20 all within a few min walks of everything. Food-Service at the buffets was great wait staff came back often asking if we needed anything even hand sanitizer by the hostess before coming in very good. 3 Different buffet places to choose from, love the carving station and the fish/beef/pasta stations cooked right in front of you good option when you want different textures. Buffett gets old with similar selections daily but you have the outdoor grill by the beach fresh to made burgers, unlimited made to order pizza by the pool so don't always have to hit the buffet anyway. Chopsticks-Asian didn't do the hibachi grill but they were laughing and cheering singing looked like lots of fun would do that next time, we did the menu option poor choice wife never got her mixed drink asked two different people for it, the chicken was bland and salmon under cooked, we ate half walked away ended up at the steak house-very popular needed a pager waited about 30 min by the pool but worth it had a few drinks at the pool bar while waiting laughing with other guest forgot we were waiting for a table food was much much better nice salad bar there too. Italian-OK menu choices but very delicious whole group sang for my wife's bday nice touch. House wine was not very tasty-that's included otherwise they want you to order a bottle. Just waited and had a couple of drinks after leaving. French-Didn't go others told us it was good. Mediterranean-Very tasty have to walk over to the sun club side for that. Activities-Great little shows entertaining right after its over about 10pm then the live singing and dancing at the lobby bar area start OMG so much fun!! After that ends at 11pm the Starlight disco opens right outside the entrance upstairs not very crowded but when the staff comes in and starts up the dancing it was great! Sexy monkey, King kong, Marcelli and all the entertainment staff are great, remember you and your name when walking around the resort. Daily pool activities kayak races, ZUMBA lessons, water aerobics swim up bar, pool side bingo games keeps the whole day a blast. Didn't bring the kids but they would have loved all the kids stuff available, Nice lounge w pool tables foosball, video games, same bldg. as the fitness center. Fitness Center-Very nice, clean and new machines and great trainer in there excellent English helped with a few different work outs and encourage you to come back. Hard when full of the included drinks but would if had more time. Beach-The beach saving barriers were there and noticeable but whatever, after sitting soaking in sun unlimited drinks and beach side activities held by the staff water balloon toss, dancing, people watching no problem. Plenty of security at the middle and both sides of the beach watching over everyone great because once we walked past the resort to check out the other sides of the beach the local vendors harass you to come into their shady looking shops just say no gracias and they walk away glad they are not at the Sunscape. Feel sorry for the other resorts where I don't see any security around. Water sports hut, free kayaks wind surfing but if you want to kite surf or scuba it comes at a cost extra for pool scuba refresher. They offer a party cruise but its on a small boat not much room to dance and party and its pricey not worth it for us. When we could party at the resort. Plenty of towels at the pool. Gets crowded around the beach area at times but no trouble getting a seat. The hot tubs are being renovated no biggie for us. Room Service-Quick and included, felt bad for the guy we were on second floor tray was heavy didn't seen an elevator, food was tasty but was getting cold by time it got to us. Housekeeper daily cleaned room bathroom asked for extra towels there in a flash. Replenished the water in the room, drinks. Didn't spend much time in the room to order daily only once. Drinks-Not sure what people were saying about weak drinks my goodness?? They were excellent, had a nice menu at the bars to choose from and even choices not on the menu loved the drinks on the beach drinks tip the bartender directly they made it nice and remembered you when you come back to them. The mamawana OMG strong and tasty suppose to be the local drink after a few shots of that well wow have to taste it yourself to see, it has a sweet honey taste. Stores-ONe small one and two bigger ones nice local stuff not too expensive. Wont give you Dominican pesos however one person told me they were told not to give you any cause they don't want tips in pesos, but we just wanted some for the kids to look at once back home. Don't exchange in the airport you get ripped off, the local stores off the resort do it for you but don't carry much cash on you, no security once you leave the resort. DID take a cab to the local mall about 15min away nice selection of stores, also took a cab to the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Very nice there so you have options. Check out-Fast and easy, called for bellboy picked up our bags rode to the front had our personal driver waiting in the lobby with our names for ride back to the airport. OVerall: Outstanding place, few kinks here and there but if your looking for the Ritz Carlton of places don't go there, but for on an all inclusive on a middle class budget then you will love it. Yes, there was that occasional sewage smell but only at certain locations along the resort but again whatever so much other stuff to enjoy not a deal breaker by any means.
This resort is trying so hard which I give them credit for BUT the facilities are just not up to par. The beach is GONE. literally was washed away. These hideous inflated barges run the entire length of the property and some areas there are beach chairs behind yellow caution tape & if you want to go past the beach gets very sketch & feels unsafe. The resort has many security guards on each end because the beach isn't even private, it's public so lots of trafic & vendors waiting on the edges to sale you things or worse. The security seems on high alert at all times. The beach is just so bad. It really killed half the entertainment the resort advertises. The pool is cold & plain. Not a ton of other options for teen entertainment. The restaurants are decent if you can muster up an appetite over the pretty constant wafts of septic/sewage. I learned after the Caribbean side of the Dominican is nicer than the Atlantic side. Wish I had booked any other resort honestly! The staff is since but bc we refused the whole time share pitch we were pretty much ignored after that. Lots of promises in the online website of this resort but it does not deliver. Stay some place else. I'd say a 3 star resort based on American standards.
We were very pleased with Sunscape Bavaro Beach, Punta Cana. This place is very beautiful. The layout is excellent. We had no trouble finding our way around. The atmosphere was very relaxed. Every employee was very courteous and helpful. The hostesses at the buffet dining room greeted us each day with a smile. The service at the buffet was quick and the employees there delivered quick service. The Italian restaurant was exceptional. Our room was awesome. We were right on the beach. The room was super clean and the woman who serviced our room was friendly and saw to our every need. The beach was beautiful. The pools were well kept with plenty of sun chair lounges. I would recommend this place to anyone.
This is a gem of a resort even though they have only opened recently the service is exceptional and rooms are stunning. The beach is easily accessed and not at all crowded even considering the amount of guest you see in the resort. All inclusive is true! you will not have to open your wallet during your entire trip but I suggest tipping your favorite staff early on they remember you and provide the little "extras" like saving you the last of your favorite beer or bringing you two drinks rather than just one on a hot afternoon on the beach.
This resort is not worth staying at in any way shape or form. I had high hopes because it was so new, but several areas in the resort smelled like raw sewage (including right next to the main dining area YUM). Almost none of the staff knew how to make the drinks on their drink menu and the entire resort ran out of cranberry juice on our second day and NEVER got anymore (we stayed for four more days after that). Drinks ordered were almost always wrong when we received them (IE ordered vodka cranberry and received vodka, grenadine, and sprite??). The food was mediocre at best in the buffett, but options were slim and very repetitive. The other dining options were worse, Chopsticks the pan asian restaurant was salty and bland and I got shrimp that weren't even deveined on my plate! The beaches were okay but there was no good snorkeling since it is where the Atlantic meets the Carribean so the water is constantly churning and you cannot see anything at all. Extremely rocky as well, bring water shoes. It is not that beautiful either since they have many large sandbags (picture attached) near the shoreline to help try to calm the choppy water and prevent more erosion on the beach. We also paid extra to have an ocean view room, attached is what we actually got... NOT WORTH IT!! It was a view of construction next to the resort and palm tree instead with ocean somewhere in the background. Also in our building there was a major leak which closed several rooms and the exit that led to the beach and it took them our entire stay to rip up the floor to try to fix it, so that was lovely to hear everyday. They had outsiders come in and try to force their wares down your throat as you walked around the resort, honestly probably four out of the six days, and they weren't normal sales people, they would HARRASS you as you walked by and did not want to take no for an answer. I was so offended that we paid good money to be berated by people on our way to dinner and back to our room most of the nights we were there. I would never stay here again even if I was paid to, I feel absolutely ripped off.
Overall, the experience was very nice. I'll save the bad points until the end. The resort was very clean and spacious. It never felt closed in or like we were locked in a compound. The restaurants were varied and had some great food. The main Windows buffet was always a great choice for breakfast and lunch. Dinner gave us a wide variety including American, French, Italian, and Asian cuisines in separate restaurants. We found that our favorite was the Asian restaurant. Technically, 2 restaurants in 1. Hibachi style on one side, and menu-order seating on the other. It was very popular and arriving after 6:30 PM is not recommended. Drinks were plentiful all over the resort and servers, for the most part, were also available. The bartenders and servers are all extremely friendly. The beaches are clean and have plenty of seating available. The pools also have lots of available seating. What most people do is go out very early in the morning and place towels over their choice ow lounge chairs. This is nonsense. If you find seats you like, and all they have is towels, take the chairs. This is not the high school lunchroom, people. Now for the bad parts. We stood in line at the check-in desk for over an hour. After finally getting to the front of the line (which was not that long anyway, just very slow moving due to 3 or 4 reps working with one customer) it took another 30 minutes for the check-in process. Because it had taken so long and we were so tired, we forgot to confirm our reservation of a king bed room. We walk all the way to our building, up 4 flights of stairs, and open the door to our room to discover it was wrong. We booked a king, and got 2 small beds instead. Not romantic at all, which was the main reason for this trip. We spoke with the front desk multiple times about this over the course of the next few days, and it was never resolved. NEVER RESOLVED. We spent the entire vacation in a room that we did not book, getting less than we paid for. Sadly, that is something that really knocks down the score a lot for this resort. Honoring a commitment is important. If you can't deliver it, don't promise it! Fortunately, the drinks, the beach, and the breeze made up for some of that, but the Sunscape Bavaro Beach Resort still has a lot of work to do to become a big-time player.
Resort, food, and people were great! If I had one complaint it would be that there were no "brand name" liquor options. But when you're sitting on the beach with a nice cold cocktail, who can really complain... Thanks Sunscape for an incredible vacation!
