We visited St. James Club in Antigua in November, 2009 for our 25th wedding anniversay and it was great; total relaxation, great weather, warm water, clean, good food, beautiful grounds. Our rooms were sparse in amenities but the view and service of staff made up for it; because it was our anniversay they had a bottle of champagne iced in our room when we arrived. We did the inclusive plan and we certainly did not want for drink or food, very nice variety of delicious food. My favorite part of the vacation however were the day excursions, snorkling, sailing and sight-seeing. The pictures are true - Mamora Bay is remarkable.
My husband and I vacationed here for our 18th Anniversary and were not disappointed. The breezy beaches were fabulous and cleared every morning by the property's crew to make sure that even the seaweed didnt interfere with our beach experience. The rolling beach bar was great as we never had to leave the beach for a beverage. Restaurants were spread out nicely over the property ensuring a different dining experience in each location with great views! The room was average but the views were great and steps from the sand. The staff was wonderful and accomodating although check-in took a little longer than we would have liked. The spa was wonderful and they even had a small convenience store on the property with interent access. All in all we had a great week in Paradise and would gladly suggest this resort to all interested in Antigua.
other than the problem with transfers to and from the airport, everyone was lovely and gracious. the resort was very nice and the island is beautiful
St James was a decent place to stay, but nothing special. We felt lucky to have been upgraded 2 rooms into a suite. If we would have had to stay in the original room, it would have been a tough trip. The original room was very dated and tired, but had a nice view. The sliding door to the balcony didn't open so we were moved. The 2nd room had a leaky roof, so we were once again moved. The 3rd room was awesome. The staff is just OK as well. Nobody was overly friendly, which was so much different than most all of our other trips. We felt happy to have met other vacationers that were in better moods than the staff. Not an over the top great selection of food/drink for "all inclusive" resort.
This is a all inclusive resort but getting drinks is a chore. The bars are not close to the beachs and many have only beer and non alcholic beverages. You need to carry a schedule to determine when they are open and closed. That also includes the resturants! There are four resturants and one beach grill and one resturant is closed every day plus you have to make reservations 24 hours in advance. So you have to go to the lobby each morning to review the next days menus and make a reservation or you're stuck with a buffet that must of the time is below par! It doesn't make for a relaxing vacation. Consequently, both the drinks and the food are a hassle and not convenent! The rooms and beach area are nice and up to par with a short walk to the Alantic side or the bay side. Customer service was good except for one terrible bartender named Jon who gave very poor service to all. Over priced because of the resturant and bar availability, quality of food and drink, and hassle to dine where you want.
Dining options could have had a little more a little more variety, and make it easier for all-inclusive guests to make dinner reservations.
We were a bit worried after reading some reviews...IGNORE THEM. The St. James Club was a great vacation. The hotel is beautiful-there are little pools located all around the resort-very european style. The food was excellent!!! We are big red wind drinkers and the wine was outstanding-top shelf liquor and beer. Don't waste your time and go downtown to St. Johns-go to Nelsons Dockyard. Not much around-however once you get there you won't want to leave!
St, James Club offered more than we expected with regard to the beautiful tropical land scaped grounds to the prestine beaches and Top First rate food and service... The meals were of 5 star at every restaurant! The breakfast and luch buffet were outstanding with so much fine food to choose from.... Every 5 course dinner was something to remember.... Top shelf liquors boated the finest drinks.... And the Champagne was outstanding... I would recomend St. James to anyone looking to get away for an all inclusive resourt in the Caribbean. I should also mention the service was of high class and the staff made you feel at home! Paul I would also like to add that Suzanne from CheapCaribbean.com who helped us plan our trip was oustainging and always got back to us within a couple hours of hours to answer any question we needed.... I will be back to use CheapCaribbean.com again... Their price for our trip could not be beat anywhere else... Thank You!
This Hotel ONLY LOOK GOOD IN THE PICTURES!!! Our friends and us reserved 3 rooms thinking it will be more less like other ALL INCLUSIVE resorts, and we were VERY WRONG !!! Never book with small hotel chain like this one.THIS WAS A VERY BIG MISTAKE !!! NOT ONLY THAT WAS VERY OLD & STINKY HOTEL but STINKY bathrooms & very neglected rooms,OLD mattresses, refrigerators in the rooms were EMPTY and you have to pay for everything even for the the water!!! Everything is closed after 10 pm, no entertainments, DINNERS - make sure you make the reservation in the morning or you're dumped !!! Waste of YOUR money going there! ! VERY SAD BECAUSE ISLAND IS beautifull !!! Overall very BAD experience NOT worth our money!!! PLEASE LET PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT THIS BEFORE YOU BOOKED THEM. N.
Celebrated our anniversary at the St.James Club. Although the resort is located on a beautiful, secluded peninsula, the resort could use some help! The decor is dated and dingy (lobby furniture worn and stained). The beach front room we stayed in had paper thin walls (could hear conversations from our neighbors at all hours of the day & night). The staff was hit or miss... some were wonderful (Alfred, server on the beach, always had a great big smile and greeted everyone with a wonderful attitude!), while others seemed put out by any request (Elaine in the Rainbow Dining Room, threw down napkins when asked if we could be seated outside. "These people..." she mumbled as she sat us at our table). The resort is very laid back. It is located in a beautiful setting. I wish I could have better things to say. If you go, I would recommend the scuba diving with Linda and Teton. Very cool and wonderful people. We also enjoyed renting a car and exploring the island. The festival on Sunday nights at Shirley Heights is awesome! Just make sure your ride is waiting for you! Good luck! Hope this helps!
