Excellent beach vacation

This is our fourth Secrets (Costa Rica, Jamaica, Cancun and now DR) Cap Cana is a new resort and the amenities are beautiful. They gave us a free upgrade to a huge suite. Infrastructure is good compared to most resorts in remote areas. The beach is HUGE, beautiful, and clean. A sun worshippers paradise. The complaints you might read of some seaweed aren't significant, its an ocean, it has flora and fauna. The water is beautiful and shallow for hundreds of yards out on a sandy bottom. All Secrets have the same restaurants and the ones in Cap Cana are well done and the food is excellent the majority of the time. My wife and I laugh at some of the negative reviews about insignificant things. Secrets pampers you at this resort luxuriously and they go out of their way to be accommodating. My wife forgot her phone charging cord and our butler brought one from his home! That's service. The Amstar shuttle was there as we walked out of the airport and delivered us to the Secrets lobby within 15 minutes. If you read negative reviews about this Secrets they are probably by people you wouldn't like to be around anyway. Go have fun. Special Kudos to Narcisso the head butler and the chambermaid noches Mariela. DR Customs is nothing, virtually no waiting, but the DR does charge you $10 per person to come into the country so make sure you have cash on you. As others have mentioned bring lots of singles, it is nice to tip some of the servers, although it is "not required".

Sunrise is straight out from the resort. Huge beach area.

This resort will be great in 1 year...

I went to Secrets Cap Cana Resort & Spa from December 12-15, We were really excited to go because it was the newest Secrets resort only opened 2 weeks ago at that time. Due to it being so new, there are some positives and negatives to keep in mind. I will be listing them in my review. Positives: 1. Resort is BEAUTIFUL. The entire resort is beautiful and very skillfully made. It is comprised of high quality material (stone and wood) and absolutely gorgeous. 2. Room is EVEN MORE BEAUTIFUL! The showers in the room were my favorite with 3 shower heads for your pleasure. The shower is so big it is enough for both you and your spouse. It has a bench and a peep glass so you can admire your partner as they shower. It comes with a toilet room complete with frosted door and double vanities. The bed was comfortable, huge and really a king size bed. The room comes with robes and slippers, a safe, a door for room service to deliver food, and a minibar. To complete the look, our room had 1 couch inside, a sitting area, and 1 couch outside on the balcony. But my absolute favorite part was the hot tub on the balcony. We certainly made use of that in the cool midnight breeze. 3. Service: The language barrier can be a challenge at times, however, most staff members understand English well enough and will do their very best to assist. The rooms were cleaned well everyday. 4. Excursions: We only went on one excursion which is OUTBACK ADVENTURES with Jorge via Amstar. It was absolutely THE BEST EXCURSION EVER!!! I highly recommend it. Not only does the drinks keep coming, but the FRIED CHICKEN IS THE BEST MEAL I HAD DURING MY ENTIRE TRIP. It beat out the resort food for me. Also, we had a chance to see how people live everyday, how they grow their food, and visit with children at a school. Also, it afforded us the best opportunity to get souvenirs at a reasonable price...cheaper than anywhere else. 5. Transportation - We purchased round trip transportation with Amstar through Cheap Caribbean and it was absolutely flawless from start to finish. The vans were air conditioned and very new. We appreciated their prompt service. 6. Location - Beach location was very comfortable. Staff did a great job cleaning the beach sand everyday and were ready to assist us in any way. Very helpful! 7. Bars: Lots of bar options and all the drinks were well made and tasty! 8. Amenities - Free calls to the US and WIFI! 9. Romantic Dinner - We had the BEST MEAL on the resort at the Romantic Dinner on the beach. It was a full moon night and beautiful. Although it needed a tad bit more light, we had a delightful meal and time with our server Randy! He was fun and made our dinner enjoyable. Negatives: 1. Check-In: The resort cancelled our reservation due to overbooking and did not inform Cheap Caribbean or ourselves. They held on to our passports for over 30 min (very scary) and didn't inform us of what was going on until we were passed to the Preferred Club and met with Eloisa, the manager who explained the situation. Although she never took ownership on the resort's behalf that they cancelled our reservation, she was helpful in getting us a room on the non-preferred side to our satisfaction and offered us the preferred club benefits. We didn't get our upgraded mini bar everyday (only once and we had to request it twice), or a butler service (which is included), I believe because of a lack of communication. We were on the non-preferred side so the staff would have had to come to the opposite side of the resort to refresh us, but it would have been nice to actually experience what I paid for. Gorky, Eloisa's assistance was very helpful in getting us the upgraded minibar and Eloisa and her team even threw in a romantic dinner for us on the beach as a courtesy for our inconvenience. That had to be the best dinner I had on the resort. She decorated our room with rose petals and gave us a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Unfortunately, the night of the romantic dinner, our butler never came and got us so we had to walk to the lobby to request assistance. The team said they tried to call us, only to find out our phone wasn't working. Although our flowers were beautiful and our room nicely decorated, it was the last night of our trip so we couldn't enjoy them since we had to return home in the morning. It would have been nicer to have them in the early part of our trip so we could have enjoyed them. The staff gave me a letter for a price adjustment with Cheap Caribbean, which was nice. However, I requested it be emailed to Cheap Caribbean prior to us leaving so we could have everything straightened out and of course, I received the letter in my hand as I am leaving. In about 1 year, this resort will be PERFECT, but since they are just starting out, there will be kinks. Please keep that in mind when you go and be patient. The staff really will try their best to assist you, but it may not be what you are accustomed to. They really need a course in customer service, because I believe my trip should have been completely refunded because this was a HUGE ERROR! I even requested to go to a sister resort instead if they had no accommodation for us. No one called to check if availability was there, and once a room opened in the preferred side it was for 2 double beds, which would not have worked for us traveling as a couple. Cheap Caribbean was so helpful during this process. They are fighting to get me as much money back as possible and they even had evidence that our booking wasn't cancelled which got us a room. They were accessible 24/7 and I would ABSOLUTELY BOOK WITH THEM AGAIN! 2. Concierge: Concierge answers the phone in Spanish. This I don't understand since most guests are foreigners. The main source of income for the island is tourism. So when you call, don't be alarmed if they answer in Spanish. 3. Preferred Club: Not much preference here. You have a private lobby area which advertised mid-day snacks, (there was none), but lots of drinks. Minibar only comes with M&Ms (2 packs) and 1 can of mini pringles. No juices and a few bottles of Absolute Vodka and Red Label. Really boring and nothing special. Your room views are closer to the beach but identical to other rooms. Lastly, you have a private pool area that only you can access. There isn't much shade by any pool areas, so if you like to tan, the pool is the best location, but get there early to get a spot. 4. Minibar - Needs serious love. Absolutely no juices and the upgraded preferred service only comes with M&Ms, Pringles, and a couple of mini Absolute Vodka and Red Label. Sodas and Beers are great, but a little variety would be nice. 5. Food: Relatively bland. I was hoping for some flavorful Dominican food, but it was mainly American and bland. The labels at the buffet were always disorganized so sometimes, you weren't sure what you were eating. So if you have dietary restrictions like myself, you became a bit leary. Food is not 24/7 at restaurants. Only room service is 24/7 and the options aren't that great. Each night, 1 restaurant wasn't open due to renovations and most had a 2 hour wait since there are no reservations. The resort really needs to incorporate reservations. It would be most helpful. 6. Electricity: Dominican Republic has issues with electricity. It periodically goes in and out, so don't be alarmed. It comes back on rather quickly. 7. Tips: Remember to tip when you can. Most servers are courteous and appreciate tipping. 8. Entertainment: The nightly show needs help. The circus and Vegas night was the best but all others were not exciting at all. 9. Spa: You cannot use any steam room or sauna complimentary at this resort. Most resorts will allow their guests to use it, but not here. You have to purchase a day pass or week pass...not worth it. Be patient, they are still learning and brand new. Pros: You're probably the first to sleep there. Cons: Customer service will grow with time and expect kinks.

Secrets Cap Cana lives up to their promise!

My husband and I have stayed at Secrets before but this was our first time to Cap Cana and they far exceeded any previous Secrets experience. From the moment we stepped out of the taxi until we got back in we were made to feel like the week was all about us. This is a brand new facility, it opened in November, and although there was still some minor construction happening it was never disruptive. Every day we would notice something new, a new tree planted, some trim painted, new flowers hanging and we wondered, "when did they do that?" The rooms are very comfortable and the maid service was very good. They have plenty of dining options that were all good. A big plus was the CoCo coffee shop which is open 24/7 - great to grab a cup of tea to go watch the sun rise on the beach. The grounds were immaculate and the pool area and beach were pristine. We really enjoyed the fact that there were no vendors coming up trying to sell you things. They did have a local market set up one evening on the property that we were able to purchase local wares to help the community. The sales people were eager but not aggressive. Service was the best we've ever experienced. We have been to several "all inclusive" resorts where the personnel made it obvious that they were waiting to be tipped but I can say that was NEVER the case for the 8 days we were here. Although tipping is not a requirement and isn't a common practice in many countries (not everyone tips) We did tip regularly, not in order to get great service but in response to the amazing service we received. There were always beach towels available and we never had a problem finding a chair either at the pool or the beach. If you needed something the personnel were ready to help. Thank you Cheap Caribbean for the excellent deal and the great service you provided to us as well! We will definitely use you again!

My Vacation

I understand that this resort just opened in November. The staff were very nice as well as my room, but, there were no music playing at the pool or beach, and when it did come on it was for a brief minute. There also weren't a lot of activities, especially during the night where you have to depend on a show for entertainment. NOT OKAY

Great place to pop the question !

Excellent stay overall! Rooms were great -- Views were awesome. Teal waters were a treat.... Weather could not have been better. Nice secluded feel to the resort. We enjoyed our stay very much. Son choose to "pop the question" during a sunrise walk! Need I say more? Ok I will... Here's the details.... from the beginning. From Group of 5 -- Ages 26-60...parents/older kids 2 rooms. Arrived and departed separately. SHUTTLE to resort was great! Fast/easy -- appreciated that they whisked us off to resort right away. (Ride back to airport wasn't as accommodating, though -- insisted on taking us back way too early (had 2 groups -- happened both trips...) Greeting/Check In/Help with Taxi's was EXCELLENT. Jonathan needs to run the concierge department and train others in... Helped us with arranging private wave beach excursion option vs. insisting we use the standard "tour" as the excursion experts tried to push. We did not want to be gone from the reort a full 8 hours. ... ROOMS==> most rooms have a view. Tub + large padded seating areas on outdoor patios. (I slept out there one night as it was so relaxing/beautiful....and my hubby was snoring:) Shower was great, bed was very comfortable! Mini bar... pretty modest -- mostly used water. Housekeeping good. Figure out expresso machine early ! Took a few tries. STAFF==> Staff went out of way to help. They created a fun atmosphere. It appears they have fixed most of there "opening glitches". Entertainment staff were fun-- they walked around and got to know us. Many staff remembered us day to day, too ! Hope that was a good thing. FOOD==> Buffet was great + Easy to "book" restaurants. Still a few problems with wrong orders, though. Not much for late afternoon snack options. Burgers and nachos were available and were fabulous, though. Was hard to keep up with demand -- so open another option ! DRINKS ==> Great. Service could have been faster, but always easy to go to bar and get what you wanted. Only one local (Presidente') beer and one option for white or red wine..... better choices at restaurants. Can buy wine too. (But why should you need to ?) POOLS==> Outstanding! 3 cascading infinity pools.... spacious seating. Gorgeous views. Hot tub looked fun, but did not use. White sand BEACH -- well groomed. Teal water --shallow...can walk out forever and just hang out ! (Destination boats would come to our area and do just that... wasn't disruptive -- just confirmed our area as a destination in itself !) .... Clear water, some up and down spots, but no rocks (except in front of the premier area! :) It was a very spacious beach with lots of shaded seating. Tough to get seating under huts/veranda unless you come REAL early and stake your spot. They say they clear it at 8am ... but they don't ... got up for sunrise and still couldn't get a spot BUT... spaces opened up by lunchtime. Many people just hoarded seats all day and chairs were empty most of the time -- annoying. Circle veranda seating was nice ! Nabbed one of those one day. ENTERTAINMENT ==> OK. Yoga, Aerobics, dance lessons nice touch -- good enthusiastic leaders. Nice show at 10pm each night --could have been longer or a variety show? Not much night life for "kids". RUNNERS ! Running areas -- are toughXXX not great. Can't easily leave grounds -- but if you are a runner ... beach running is pretty good ! Nice packed areas just under 1/2 mile ... can go backand forth easy enough.... I always went down beach past the pier... kept going to Secrets Santuary where you have to get off the beach (rocky) but you can hit the roads pretty easily from their parking lot. Bike trip was interesting, but very restrictive. Kayaks were fun. SUP's were for light people -- very hard to get up on and we have all done it before?>?? some were broken. Excursion options looked good --but we only did one of our own to MaCaow Beach to bodysurf. Good sidetrip -- more locals there. Speaking of Secrets Santuary... Was told we could visit there, but couldn't.... why don't they allow reciprocal benefits !??? Would be great for both. Cute resort. RESORT COUPONS==> Nice discounts if you were going to use spa or buy wine...... but have to spend $$ to get benefit , so worthless to us. Overall fabulous stay. Got a daughter in law out of the deal (finally)... so it was worth it :)

ROYALTY FOR A WEEK

This being our 7th trip to Punta Cana ,My wife and i stayed at Secrets Cap Cana from April 14-21.From the minute we walked into the hotel lobby and heard the words " welcome home" we felt like we walked into a different world. You immediately see the pool and turquoise ocean from the lobby.Check-in was just a few minutes and then off to our ocean view room. The rooms are AMAZING with a huge two person walk-in shower with an ocean view from the shower, walk out balcony complete with a tub and comfy couch, beds are extremely comfortable and housekeeping was AMAZING.The beach is a private beach only for secrets Cap Cana and the residents of the small upscale community of Cap Cana.It felt like we had the whole beach to ourselves. The food is amazing and some of the best steak i have ever had was at seaside grill overlooking the beach. The employees at the resort are extremely helpful and cater to your every need, when you go to the beach or pool there are plenty of towels all around and an employee will follow you to a spot set up your chair with a towel and get you whatever else you need. With servers all around you dont have to move all day they will bring you whatever you want. The service at the resort was the best i have ever had at an all inclusive resort. We were truly treated like Royalty and i felt like a KING for a week. without hesitation i would book this resort again and again.

Amazing, relaxing experience.

Thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Has one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen. The ocean water was a perfect temperature with gorgeous white sands. Their beach is absolutely massive and they provide more than enough lounge chairs and huts to relax in. Even better, their amazingly gorgeous infinity pools flow right in to the beach. There are plenty of places to order drinks from, and they have amazing servers to bring them right to your spot on the beach or by the pool as well. My room was massive and gorgeous. Even the most basic room was absolute luxury with a king bed, massive showers with double rain fall heads, and even a hot tub on the balcony. They have plenty of dining options as well. The buffet was hands down the best all inclusive buffet I have had. But each of their dinner restaurants are DELICIOUS. Extremely gourmet food and setting I will always remember how delicious the food was here. No natter which restaurant you choose, you can't go wrong. (Portofino, their Italian restaurant was my favorite). And last, probably the best part of the trip, is the service. Every single worker here is very happy to be here, knows English well, and will work their behinds off to make sure you are served. The staff is amazing and super friendly and will ensure your time here is completely stress free and perfect. Overall, amazingly relaxing trip and would definitely come back and recommend to anyone. Zero issues the whole week.

Amazing Trip - Best Beach Ever!

We had an amazing vacation!!! We have traveled to a few different places in the Carribean, but this was by far the most beautiful beach we have ever laid eyes on! The water was crystal clear & aqua for 100's of yards. We could walk out into the water with a shallow depth for 100's of yards, kayaked & enjoyed walking the sand & shore. Spent time reading in the beach hammocks, enjoyed delicious grilled lunches prepared right on the beach, endless drinks, tons of activities with great recreation hosts, yet opportunities for lots of quiet & relaxing times. The infinity pool was gorgeous & refreshing! Plenty of chairs were around the pool & towels were easy to locate. We enjoyed all the food, many resurants, nightly intertainment by the pool, & sipping champagne down on the beach while watching all the stars in the skye. The rooms were nice with private & comfortable balconies to relax. I don't think we saw one piece of trash or an insect the entire time. We loved the 24 hour coffee shop & bakery as well as the nightly music in the lobby. The lobby is very trendy, relaxing & beautiful! We were catered too immediately upon arrival, with champagne, additional drinks, cooks cloths & attentive service. The views Day & night around the resort were amazing & there was lot to offer within a decent space that didn't feel too spread out, yet large enough. We were only there for 4 days, but will be back! Only complaint is that we did not realize there would be such limited English understanding of the workers at the resort, although it really was fine & not really a complaint, but more of a surprise.
