My boyfriend and I purchased this vacation 5 days 4 nights 3 months prior to the resort opening. The resort is amazing. Bartenders, entertainment, cleaning services etc all amazing and very attentive. If you give a tip to your bartender, they'll treat you amazingly. Most of these employees work solely off tips so tip them 2/3 bucks here and there. I can't saying anything bad about this resort. The entertainment is amazing. The staff is beyond friendly. The pools are super clean. The buffet is always different and never packed out. I would stay here again if I ever came back to Punta Cana.
First I have to say that this was my family's first out of country excursion and our first time to an all inclusive resort so I don't have much to compare to other than hotels along the shore in the Northeast US. I thought the resort was pretty good and my group of 6 was pleased. We stayed from July 17th - 23rd. RESORT - The staff at the front lobby were good. They got us in our rooms within an hour of arriving at 2:00 PM. Most spoke pretty good English. Bartenders and servers were fine. There were people cleaning common areas all the time. Tile and stone work throughout was beautiful. The room was awesome and cleaned daily. Some reviews mentioned the firm mattresses, which they were, but we all slept just fine. Fridge was stocked every 2 days. The landscape is not fully matured yet due to the newness of the facility but palm trees and tropical plants everywhere. BEACH - The beach was large enough to hold about 150 handmade tropical looking umbrellas and lounge chairs and there was still plenty of room for beach activities. I can't say that for many of the adjacent resorts which we looked at from the beach. The beach was cleaned every morning by resort workers. The ocean was warm, clean and beautiful, Some sea weed but not enough to be an issue. To get a shade umbrella you have to go out before 9:00 AM, or leave towels on chairs all night, which unfortunately many people did. POOLS - The pools were nice and you have access to 2 of the 3. The quiet pool and the party pool. The party pool has the bar and swim up bar. Only issue with the pools was the water temp which was in the 90's so it was hotter in the pool than standing in the sun. They need to find a way to cool these pools off so they are somewhat refreshing. If you can afford the VIP reservations then you get your own pool with dedicated pool bar. EATERIES - The main buffet was good, offering a wide variety of foods and it had an indoor seating area with air conditioning or an covered outdoor seating area. We used the outdoor seating area because it was never too hot and we just preferred being outside. It's also adjacent to the pool. There are 3 specialty restaurants, Italian, Asian and Steak. We ate three times at the Italian restaurant, we like that on the best. The steak at the steak restaurant wasn't good but it had excellent chicken Caesar salads and mozzarella sticks. I have the ribs and they were good. It's the only one with full service. We didn't try the Asian. You have to make reservations for all so do that when you first get there. Mike and dairy products are non existent for some reason so they don't have milk for cereal or cream cheese for bagels. They did provide warm milk for coffee. CHEAP CARRIBEAN - Everything we were suppose to get we got. Transfers to and from the resort were handled by Amstar. They're like a subcontractor. My only complaint about our reservations was that our seat assignments for the flight home were changed and my wife and I had to sit in separate rows. Not sure how this happened since we had assigned seats before the trip started. We didn't have time to try to change. AIRPORT - Arrival was fine, no issues. Departure was a nightmare. Our flight was scheduled to leave at 2:40 PM so maybe that is peak time, I don't know. We allowed 2 hours and 30 minutes for check-in, security, customs, etc. and we barely made our flight. The big problem was checking in with the airline (AA). That took at least 90 minutes. EXCURSIONS - We only did the Reef Explorer 1/2 day trip which is basically a snorkeling trip at a coral reef with beautiful fish everywhere. We really liked this trip but it was pricey. Oh yea, we also took a van to what we thought was a shopping center. Well it turned out to be a small strip mall with 2 small shops. They had a better variety than the gift shop at Riu but the prices were very high. OVERALL - We had a very nice experience, especially considering the price, and I would definitely go there again. Would probably schedule my return flight home for early morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the mid day rush. Since we sat around in the room for 2 hours in the morning with nothing to do I would pick an early morning departure. Also, we had no problems with food poisoning or diarrhea as mentioned in some reviews. Not until we got home but that could have been from the airline food/drinks.
Very beautiful resort! The rooms are very nice with liquor bottles, beer, and mixers. They only restock the fridge every other day , but you can request more. Oversize shower for 2 adults to soap and have some fun! Double sinks too. We had a king bed with a sofa and coffee table as well. Th balcony is good sized and has a towel rack to hand your wet stuff. The only negative about the rooms, is that the doors slam very hard and make a loud noise. It echos down the halls and you can hear doors all night- if people are not courteous enough to not let them slam. excellent band and entertainment every night. Plan to eat later and then go right out to the stage area for after dinner drinks and the show. Food is excellent. Whether it is the buffet or a-la-cart, you will find something yummy. Definitely do the Asian restaurant! Pool is awesome- swim up bars and activities. The "Fun" group keeps things going with mini golf, dancing lessons, water aerobics, volleyball, and sing a-longs. The music keeps everyone singing and dancing n the pool as well as the drinks! Booked an excursion to Soma Island .Do it -it is awesome-but please book with your Amstar rep when you get there. They are awesome !
Just returned after 7 days. All was awesome. The beaches did not have sea weed which is rare in that area. Staff was awesome. Employees are great and take care of any issues promptly. Drinks easy to get and strong as you like. No problem getting a seat anywhere at the beach or in the pool. I did get tired of the buffet after a few days..but there was always another option. Worth The Price.
My husband and I had a awesome time at Rui Republica. I must say before our vacation I was reading the reviews and was a little reluctant of some of the reviews but I soon found out that you just can't please everyone. The rooms were very big and stayed clean with fresh towels daily. The staff was very pleasant and went out there way to make you feel special. The food was wonderful. The buffet the Italian restaurant and the steak restaurant was so delicious. We really had a nice time and can't wait to go back this year sometime.
My wife and I just got back from the Riu Republica traveling with two other couples. We had a great time. The service was great, the beach - unbelievable, and the entertainment fun and ...well entertaining. The rooms were nice, the air worked well and the showers are awesome. The food is pretty much all buffet and was fine, nothing to get excited about, but plentiful and tasty enough. The bars were good and the staff excellent. Since the Republica is a new resort there are still some kinks to work out. The beach is a haul, and it is a walk to the bar and there is very limited bar service on the beach. There needs to be a place where a person can print a boarding pass for the flight. The front desk did do it for me, but it took far longer than it needed to. If you are looking for a place that is a great value, and great fun with an unbelievable beach, service and atmosphere you really cant go wrong. If food is the priority, then you should go someplace else.
As an English-speaking person that doesn't understand Spanish, it was difficult at times trying to communicate with the staff -- especially outside the restore. However, those at the Front Desk seem to be able to understand and speak clearer than most and were very pleasant. The room was awesome! Very large, big shower with good water pressure and nice and COLD with the ceiling fan. I was surprised to see 4 bottles of booze hanging on the wall! However, the dingy-white and scratchy towels were a disappointment. The food was okay. A fairly nice variety most of the time. Some was a little on the bland side. Most of the time it was hard to find a clean table. It would have been nice to have "to go" containers so we can take food to our rooms instead of open plates. The pool area was great! However, I will warn people... the shallow areas where they have the built-in lounge seats ARE VERY SLIPPERY -- probably due to all of the sunscreen everyone was using. For 5 days and 4 nights with airfare and an all-inclusive, this was one of the best deals I ever spent on a vacation.
The beach was beautiful.. blue, clean, and without seaweed. The only thing it lacked was a beach bar. Entertainment staff was amazing. They kept everyone involved, friendly, made you laugh, and worked from 10a to 1130p. There is a quiet pool and a rowdy fun pool for both types of people. If you love to party and have fun this is the resort for you. There were plenty of options to choose from for dining. There is an Italian, Asian, steakhouse, and main dining area. All are buffet style besides French and steakhouse. The plus is no reservations are required. The rooms are spacious with a big bed and shower. It's perfect for those who spend more time out of the room than in the room. We also booked 2 excursions through the hotel which went smoothly. Another plus is on the beach and at the resort there is nobody heckling you to buy things like other other places have. The place is beaitiful. I would recommend this and would come back again.
I just got back from this hotel today and I couldn't be happier with my stay. Clean hotel. The staff was friendly. The beach and pool were fantastic. The music at the pool area was great. That being said the entertainment was too notch. I stayed for a week with 8 other family members and friends and each one of us was very impressed. No complaints at all. I highly recommend taking a trip to this resort. You won't regret it.
We have been to multiple AI resorts throughout the years, and this would fall somewhere in the middle. RIU describing the property as a 5 star resort is a bit of a stretch, but overall we had a lot of fun. No issues with communication or anyone in our party getting sick as stated in many reviews. I will try to describe our experience below: PRO: Smaller resort, so no tram is needed for transportation on the resort Beach was beautiful with plenty of chairs Never a problem getting chairs at pool around 9am and loungers in the water were usually open Entertainment crew did a good job of getting everyone involved (Gucci and Panda were the best!) Buffet constantly changed with many great offerings for bfast, lunch & dinner Room was clean with large shower and double vanity sink in bathroom No reservations for dinner but received pager that worked throughout resort when table was ready Sports bar had playoffs on and was very popular in afternoons Beach party at night was a lot of fun Quick check-in / check-out process CON: Room smelled like smoke very bad Large waves on ocean so lounging in the ocean was not really an option for most Huge dune between resort and ocean really obstructed views from entire property (cut-out to walk through) Specialty restaurants were mostly buffet style with similar offerings Music at the pool was mostly in Spanish, so hard to enjoy it after a while No assistance upon arrival, just dropped off with bags and had to figure it out as we went Elevator by our room was out of service for over half of our trip Nightly shows at the outdoor theater were very repetitive No beach service so it was a good trek to get a drink when on the beach Few waters at the pool and line at pool bar got backed up pretty quickly Resort was very modern and a bit stark Transportation was booked through AMSTAR (at the time of booking trip) but took a long time to leave the airport. We waited about an hour after we got to their representatives as they kept waiting for other flights and other resorts to fill the bus. Then they wanted us to sit through a sales pitch the first day there, just to claim a return time to the airport. When we refused the timeshare like pitch for excursions (which was over an hour) the AMSTAR reps became rude and very short. It took three more attempts to get a time to meet the bus back to the airport at the conclusion of the trip. This was the most frustrating part of the entire trip. For our party, these were minor inconveniences. Overall, we had a great time, especially for the price. Tips were definitely appreciated and service got much better after a couple of bucks. I would recommend the resort to someone looking to just relax but not to someone looking to be constantly entertained.
