5 Stars All Around

My boyfriend and I purchased this vacation 5 days 4 nights 3 months prior to the resort opening. The resort is amazing. Bartenders, entertainment, cleaning services etc all amazing and very attentive. If you give a tip to your bartender, they'll treat you amazingly. Most of these employees work solely off tips so tip them 2/3 bucks here and there. I can't saying anything bad about this resort. The entertainment is amazing. The staff is beyond friendly. The pools are super clean. The buffet is always different and never packed out. I would stay here again if I ever came back to Punta Cana.

Pretty good deal overall

First I have to say that this was my family's first out of country excursion and our first time to an all inclusive resort so I don't have much to compare to other than hotels along the shore in the Northeast US. I thought the resort was pretty good and my group of 6 was pleased. We stayed from July 17th - 23rd. RESORT - The staff at the front lobby were good. They got us in our rooms within an hour of arriving at 2:00 PM. Most spoke pretty good English. Bartenders and servers were fine. There were people cleaning common areas all the time. Tile and stone work throughout was beautiful. The room was awesome and cleaned daily. Some reviews mentioned the firm mattresses, which they were, but we all slept just fine. Fridge was stocked every 2 days. The landscape is not fully matured yet due to the newness of the facility but palm trees and tropical plants everywhere. BEACH - The beach was large enough to hold about 150 handmade tropical looking umbrellas and lounge chairs and there was still plenty of room for beach activities. I can't say that for many of the adjacent resorts which we looked at from the beach. The beach was cleaned every morning by resort workers. The ocean was warm, clean and beautiful, Some sea weed but not enough to be an issue. To get a shade umbrella you have to go out before 9:00 AM, or leave towels on chairs all night, which unfortunately many people did. POOLS - The pools were nice and you have access to 2 of the 3. The quiet pool and the party pool. The party pool has the bar and swim up bar. Only issue with the pools was the water temp which was in the 90's so it was hotter in the pool than standing in the sun. They need to find a way to cool these pools off so they are somewhat refreshing. If you can afford the VIP reservations then you get your own pool with dedicated pool bar. EATERIES - The main buffet was good, offering a wide variety of foods and it had an indoor seating area with air conditioning or an covered outdoor seating area. We used the outdoor seating area because it was never too hot and we just preferred being outside. It's also adjacent to the pool. There are 3 specialty restaurants, Italian, Asian and Steak. We ate three times at the Italian restaurant, we like that on the best. The steak at the steak restaurant wasn't good but it had excellent chicken Caesar salads and mozzarella sticks. I have the ribs and they were good. It's the only one with full service. We didn't try the Asian. You have to make reservations for all so do that when you first get there. Mike and dairy products are non existent for some reason so they don't have milk for cereal or cream cheese for bagels. They did provide warm milk for coffee. CHEAP CARRIBEAN - Everything we were suppose to get we got. Transfers to and from the resort were handled by Amstar. They're like a subcontractor. My only complaint about our reservations was that our seat assignments for the flight home were changed and my wife and I had to sit in separate rows. Not sure how this happened since we had assigned seats before the trip started. We didn't have time to try to change. AIRPORT - Arrival was fine, no issues. Departure was a nightmare. Our flight was scheduled to leave at 2:40 PM so maybe that is peak time, I don't know. We allowed 2 hours and 30 minutes for check-in, security, customs, etc. and we barely made our flight. The big problem was checking in with the airline (AA). That took at least 90 minutes. EXCURSIONS - We only did the Reef Explorer 1/2 day trip which is basically a snorkeling trip at a coral reef with beautiful fish everywhere. We really liked this trip but it was pricey. Oh yea, we also took a van to what we thought was a shopping center. Well it turned out to be a small strip mall with 2 small shops. They had a better variety than the gift shop at Riu but the prices were very high. OVERALL - We had a very nice experience, especially considering the price, and I would definitely go there again. Would probably schedule my return flight home for early morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the mid day rush. Since we sat around in the room for 2 hours in the morning with nothing to do I would pick an early morning departure. Also, we had no problems with food poisoning or diarrhea as mentioned in some reviews. Not until we got home but that could have been from the airline food/drinks.

Good Fun

This hotel was pretty good, the only complaints I had was that the beach was hidden by the high sand dunes, these need to be flattened unless it it there for ecological reasons. The food at the speciality restaurants need major improvements, the buffet was great. Most employees at the hotel do not speak English! this made communication challenging. The hotel itself is great and the service otherwise was good. The hotel was clean and comfortable, drinks in the room, bottled water, rooms cleaned very early so it was nice to come back to in the afternoon. Leave tips for the housecleaning. They left hibiscus petals in the bathroom which was a nice touch. The entertainment was good by the pools, on the weekend there was foam and balloons which made it feel like it was Spring break, but that was only on the weekend! Lots of music by the pools bar to keep you energized, if you want more quiet you can go to the other pool it does not have a swim up bar but they do come and serve drinks so that is nice. Would like to see better shade with the umbrellas, it does not really protect you from the heat. Overall a great experience, I would recommend this place. I was hesitant about going after reading the reviews but it was good. I am very picky and there was not anything major to complain about. take the outback safari tour!

Overall Very Good

Overall, our week's stay was very good. The staff was friendly and courteous. The room was nice. Service was very good. The beach was beautiful and excellent for long walks. We enjoy good wine and that was the biggest disappointment. The resort's choice of wine was "undrinkable". They used a local Dominican Republic winery. The specialty restaurants give an option to purchase better quality wines which we did. But, at best, those wines were mediocre. Last year, we stayed at the Riu Macao and the wine and drinks were superior. I'm guessing that the Riu chain may be starting to cut corners.

Great Hotel

I just got back from this hotel today and I couldn't be happier with my stay. Clean hotel. The staff was friendly. The beach and pool were fantastic. The music at the pool area was great. That being said the entertainment was too notch. I stayed for a week with 8 other family members and friends and each one of us was very impressed. No complaints at all. I highly recommend taking a trip to this resort. You won't regret it.

Overall a great trip to the DR!

We have been to multiple AI resorts throughout the years, and this would fall somewhere in the middle. RIU describing the property as a 5 star resort is a bit of a stretch, but overall we had a lot of fun. No issues with communication or anyone in our party getting sick as stated in many reviews. I will try to describe our experience below: PRO: Smaller resort, so no tram is needed for transportation on the resort Beach was beautiful with plenty of chairs Never a problem getting chairs at pool around 9am and loungers in the water were usually open Entertainment crew did a good job of getting everyone involved (Gucci and Panda were the best!) Buffet constantly changed with many great offerings for bfast, lunch & dinner Room was clean with large shower and double vanity sink in bathroom No reservations for dinner but received pager that worked throughout resort when table was ready Sports bar had playoffs on and was very popular in afternoons Beach party at night was a lot of fun Quick check-in / check-out process CON: Room smelled like smoke very bad Large waves on ocean so lounging in the ocean was not really an option for most Huge dune between resort and ocean really obstructed views from entire property (cut-out to walk through) Specialty restaurants were mostly buffet style with similar offerings Music at the pool was mostly in Spanish, so hard to enjoy it after a while No assistance upon arrival, just dropped off with bags and had to figure it out as we went Elevator by our room was out of service for over half of our trip Nightly shows at the outdoor theater were very repetitive No beach service so it was a good trek to get a drink when on the beach Few waters at the pool and line at pool bar got backed up pretty quickly Resort was very modern and a bit stark Transportation was booked through AMSTAR (at the time of booking trip) but took a long time to leave the airport. We waited about an hour after we got to their representatives as they kept waiting for other flights and other resorts to fill the bus. Then they wanted us to sit through a sales pitch the first day there, just to claim a return time to the airport. When we refused the timeshare like pitch for excursions (which was over an hour) the AMSTAR reps became rude and very short. It took three more attempts to get a time to meet the bus back to the airport at the conclusion of the trip. This was the most frustrating part of the entire trip. For our party, these were minor inconveniences. Overall, we had a great time, especially for the price. Tips were definitely appreciated and service got much better after a couple of bucks. I would recommend the resort to someone looking to just relax but not to someone looking to be constantly entertained.

Awesome

My husband and I had a awesome time at Rui Republica. I must say before our vacation I was reading the reviews and was a little reluctant of some of the reviews but I soon found out that you just can't please everyone. The rooms were very big and stayed clean with fresh towels daily. The staff was very pleasant and went out there way to make you feel special. The food was wonderful. The buffet the Italian restaurant and the steak restaurant was so delicious. We really had a nice time and can't wait to go back this year sometime.

Trip on first week of Jan 2017

It was quick and easy to book, when I had a question my call was answered quick with almost no wait time. The resort was great, well maintained, pools were clean, beach was spotless, nice fine sand like you might not expect being on the border of the Atlantic. Waves were big which I love, but could tell a lot of people didn't go in the water because of it. The only thing that would of make it better would be a sit down order by menu option for dining as all the food was al le carte. Buffet style. But don't eat to much because the deserts are awesome. Definitely buy the taxi pickup and drop off. from and to the airport. The " free" trip to town was just a shuttle to one gift shop sponsored by the hotels. That being sad there was a lot more stuff there than in Hotel gift shop. We took one excursion snorkeling and boat ride which was very well done. I just kinda wished they would have opened the boat up a little because it looked like it could go fast. Adult only is the only way to go, the only down side is you tend to see how old you are because you question " are they an adult" The weather was 80-85 everyday, 97 percent sunny, lots of daylight as well which was great for us coming from the north. STOP READING AND JUST GO !! Everything will be just where you left it when you get back..

great all-inclusive adults only resort!

We really liked this resort. Lovely employees, we could find quiet places on the beach or at the pool, or we could find more lively stuff to do if we wanted that. If you stay in a courtyard view room, you'll hear the live show and band until about 11:30pm every night. Quieter rooms require ocean or island outer views. The food is average, but you don't go to an all inclusive place for fine dining. Drinks are strong, but don't expect your fancy drinks. They keep them pretty basic. But the resort is a lovely place... lots of options. Just go with managed expectations, and you'll have a great time, and at a really great value!

RUN From RIU REPUBLICA

WORST RESORT EVER!This is a place for a person that has never been out of the country or to a resort before. Nothing 4/5 star about this place. This is a 1 1/2 Star place. Visited on June 19-24th Check-in- Nice- but they did not provide us with our on-site deals we were to receive upon arrival. Didn't get those until the day before check out. Rooms: Looks like what is advertised but furnishings are quality of IKEA put together items, bed was hard Off site food: Nothing authentic about the dishes, could not find one place Stay on the resort: When the LOCALS say stay on the resort, you must know that you are not in a great area. Resort: Sits in an area that is extremely impoverished and looks like the countryside. There's nothing beautiful to look out to, so don't get excited. The grounds are still being developed. I also noticed that road signs were saying Punta Cana was in the opposite direction in which we were traveling. Right outside the resort sat locals which looked like about 30-40 men that were on mopeds and dirt bikes ( I think this was like their hang out area) because it was outside the area near the resort where the taxi and buses sat. The Beach: The water is VERY ROUGH though people got in they didnt stay out and couldn't stay out long because of the tides. They had the kayaks out, but because of the water, no one could use them. We were told by locals that the resort didn't sit on the side where the calm waters were. Beach Hut Usage: LAUGHABLE-- We had to go out at 5:30 AM just to get a seat along the beach and I had to MOVE bottles and ashtrays away from the area- they do not clean up the area before nightfall and do not pick up things that are left out there. They do not enforce their rules of people leaving things in chairs (holding seats) and there was so much frustration among many people and even a few conflicts because people who I witnessed being away for more than 3 hours and returned later being upset that someone sat in the seats they hadn't occupied in that time, and all I could think was really???? Are you seriously upset that others couldn't enjoy the space while you were away for HOURS on end???? Onsite Shop: Extremely OVER PRICED nearly $30 for a small travel sized bottle of sunscreen. The Mall- They took us to this broken down place that only had 2 shops that yield business, it was approximately 5 minutes from the resort. Then they took us to another one after many complained which was better but very similar to a flea market with US stores that were priced well above US prices and that was in USD. Food: The food is bland and did not reflect any of the culture at all. The presentation was similar to that of a cruise buffet layout. Then they had the nerve to ask you to make "reservations" for the other on site restaurant, but when you get there, its buffet style- you are not waited as if you are at a restaurant. The water: DO NOT DRINK THE WATER The entertainment: Equivalent to amateur village teens putting on a talent show. The music is small a radio at the bar area with one person walking around with a mic . There's one thing to create a relaxing atmosphere but boring is another. Service: Never in a million years have I been on a Resort that did NOT offer beach service and attendants you have to walk for everything! In all honesty, I expected to gain a few pounds because of delighting at an adult only resort, heck it was OPPOSITE- I LOST WEIGHT. Beach: You can forget a spot on the beach! People leave their belongings (intentionally) in the seats overnight and do not show up for HOURS (like 6-7 hours) the following day while they go out on excursions or just deciding to come sit when they want. (I have video of at least 100 unseated spots for 3 hours). I never wanted to travel far only to have to sit at the POOL the entire time, could do that at the local apartment complex. They play the same American music over and over again, something I didn't care to hear because it wasn't that great nor were the music selections diverse or accommodating to ALL guests. ALL the drinks were watered down. No matter how hard I tried, I could not get a simple buzz for nothing in the world and I am a person that can get that feeling off of ONE drink (not really a drinker) Hard to walk the beach because of the high sands.... HORRIBLE Prefer a refund, because the words I'M SORRY SIMPLY AREN'T ENOUGH for this nightmare of an ADULT ONLY resort. I would have fared better with a group of 7-10 year olds. The Spa: they promoted one thing in the salon but when the products used were NOT what they promoted when selling us the Couples Moonlight Massage by the beach. I had to stop the young lady from using what she was using on my body. It turned out that it was NOT the products from the spa and that it was this sticky type gel that you generally find in lingerie shops. By the end of it we were as sticky as toppings on a banana split sundae desert! i had to demand the full time I paid for because the masseuse tried to get the products leaving me with only 20 minutes of a time to get an hour massage. They couldn't make up the lost time due to the next booking and I had to get the GM involved which he couldn't do much because the Spa and the Resort aren't one in the same. It was a contracted business that did not have management on site at all times. The different crowd: Around Wednesday night, you could just kiss the relaxing adult atmosphere GOOD BYE, the bus dropped the rowdy bunch off and it was a different world by Thursday. I was so happy to LEAVE that Friday morning. It went from one tax bracket to another REAL QUICK! (not being funny, but it is the truth) I cannot give this place a pass considering this company has MANY resorts around the world so they KNOW BETTER, just refused to provide the upscale service their promoting. They claimed you don't have to lift a finger and you didn't; just lifting your legs through the mounds of sand just to get a watered down drink. They really need to change the brands they are using. The Horrible, just horrible on all levels.
