All Riu Reggae (Adults-Only) Customer Reviews
I stayed at Riu Reggae this December for 8 days with a friend. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the Resort. We didn't have a bunch of money for excursions so we spent a lot of time at the resort, taking it in & enjoying the entertainment. Our goal was to relax and the entertainment made sure that we were able to relax & have fun. Shampoo led awesome workouts in the mornings if you were interested and didn't want to head to the workout room on site. Lady Tosh, Empress, Shampoo, Zee, Cash, Breezy, Barbie, Diva kept you entertained every night with amazing dance moves & willingness to talk with you & make you feel welcome & the various plays they re-enacted. Between the workouts & the entertainment Shampoo keeps the entertainment going all night! I'm hoping the team is getting paid well because no one said anything about tipping at the resort. We did tip the bartenders and everyone(just cause) and the drinks were made very well. Each room is simple & kept clean, our garden view was not what we expected but it did provide privacy (View was of a gate). The food was really good. I wish that they had more options for Jamaican food for those that were interested. The food at each restaurant was really good and the service was amazing (fancy restaurants). The buffet is open for breakfast/lunch/dinner. There is a place to get food mid-lunch/dinner a snack area and the food was good here but I wish we could've got beef patties everyday in this area & the after dinner snack that you can get at the daiquiri bar was not good at all. It's a Jamaican resort so wanted Caribbean food after a night out at the local club drinking (3am-4am) but the resort provided nacho chips/cheese, burgers/hotdogs to warm up - they were good but not up to our expectation as far as overnight food. Wish there were at least patties in this section or some type of chicken you could get overnight. Also, there was jerk chicken on the beach from 12-3pm each day and it was really good & served by Chef Roger but we wish it was open from 11am-5pm or all day as we wanted more Jerk chicken after 3pm lol. Everything else was wonderful, we played volleyball on the beach, watched the entertainment every night, played board games on rainy days, relaxed on the beach (wish the sand was softer, less man-made), enjoyed the water activities (free options) and enjoyed visiting Dunn's River Falls. Also, the alcohol in the room was up to par. Also, this was originally purchased as a honeymoon trip and we didn't tell the resort we cancelled our engagement so I wish we would've been offered a room with a Jacuzzi or something but it was nice overall. Best trip hands down and we plan to go again!! Cheap Caribbean was present at the airport & throughout our stay at the resort. (2nd trip booked through company - I will book again)

Overall the resort was very clean and modern. The staff was very friendly and helpful. But compared to other all-inclusive's we have stayed in it was very small. and the pools were not glamourous, just straight rectangular. I would say next time we would stay at Riu Montego Bay because it was larger and had more to offer .

Pros: - Excellent Christmas dinner buffet. - Overall the food was good but the breakfast and lunch buffets are the same every day. The only change I saw in the buffets was some of the Christmas dinner buffet left-overs made it ti the Breakfast/lunch buffet. - Entertainment was sometimes excellent and sometimes average. - Bar staff was excellent. - Entertainment staff was excellent. - Housekeeping was average ... nothing special ... sometimes the room was cleaned early and sometimes the room was cleaned in the afternoon. Cons: - No way this resort should be categorized a 5-star resort. - We were not "greeted" with a glass of champagne. It was there but we had to get it ourselves. - Virtually no top shelf liquor. - They do not have servers that walk around and take your drink orders. - No room service. We knew this from reading their web-site but this is one of the reasons it should not be categorized as a 5-star resort. - No coffee pot in the room. We knew this from reading their web-site but this is one of the reasons it should not be categorized as a 5-star resort. - We had a problem with ants in our room. The resort was very slow to respond to the problem. - Upon arrival our Air Conditioning was not working properly. It took them over a day to fix it. - No concierge at the resort. Another reason this resort should not be categorized as a 5-star resort. - No turn-down service in the evening. Another reason this resort should not be categorized as a 5-star resort. - Our daughter requested their Honeymoon treatment since they were married <90 days from our arrival date. They did change their room from a garden view to a pool view but the room was identical to our garden view room. Absolutely no other "Honeymoon" perks were given to them. This was just wrong ... not the type of treatment you would expect from a 5-star resort.

Upon check in we were moved to the Riu Palace next door. This was a good thing we learned. Apparently Palace guest can come and go to this resort but this resort can not come and go to the Palace property. So we had double everything. Really triple because we could do the same to their other property on the other side of the palace as well. Anyways, I have only two complaints from the whole trip. Biggest is that the nicer restaurants are only open for dinner. This becomes a problem, especially at a sold out.....MORE EXPENSIVE time. You have an entire resort dressed for dinner, but only 10 tables in the Japanese, and Fusion restaurant and only a couple more than that in the Italian. This lead to my husband and I having to stand outside of these places up to 45 mins before just to be sure to be able to eat in these. The steak place was the same but sat many more. Hello...food and drinks are why people pay those prices. And we went during Christmas break where it is even much more to have to wait...or if you missed the opening you had to wait at least an hour and a half for the tables to start to open. My last complaint is service around the pool and beach. I have been to all inclusivesorts before, drinks were brought to me constantly and I could show up to eat any time lunch on. They did not let me go dry. I had to go get my drinks here. But the place was beautiful. The activity crew was amazing! They helped make our time wonderful! Big thanks to them! At the Palace not Reggae. Our room was BIG! Lots of room!

The Reggae is brand-new and therefore the facilities are in excellent condition with everything clean and shiny. We loved the pool, beach and outdoor facilities. The rooms were very simple with clean lines and simple decor. The bathrooms were large and beautiful especially the shower. The mattress was too firm for our liking and we did not find our sleep restful. The food presentation was terrific and there was a good variety but very average in taste. We mostly enjoyed the breakfast selections. The management added some very special touches for Christmas eve and Christmas day with special decorations and buffet presentations. The service by the staff was very friendly with attention to detail. The entire staff always greeted us with smiles and friendly conversation. We were very impressed with how kind and friendly everyone was. The entertainment at the outdoor stage was very limited and did not hold our attention. It is a great space to hold concerts and entertainment but we were not impressed with the level of talent and showmanship. We did find that the hallways were very noisy at night with doors slamming, rolling carts and people talking as they strolled down the corridors. This was more than likely due to the tile and concrete floors with nothing to absorb the sound.

This is a nice resort if it is what you can afford. It has most of the amentities. Rooms are clean and comfortable but lack coffee maker and clocks and/or alarms. This is NOT a 5 star resort. The service is excellent. The resort does have several drawbacks. If you are looking for a quiet restful vacation this resort is not for you (think Spring Break atmosphere.) It is in the direct flight path of the Montego Bay airport so you have a jet going over the resort every 12 minutes from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The restaurants could benefit from a revision to service, i.e., their specialty restaurants are not really specialty. The only difference between them is that you have table service for entrees only. The rest is still the same as the main buffet and is self serve on salads, soup and dessert, etc. Only their gourmet restaurant offers full table service. Since Jamaica passed its' no smoking law, smoking areas are limited and the no smoking policy is STRICTLY enforced. Both pools are NOT for swimming. They are 1.5 meters deep so you can splash around but not swim; plenty of seats/tables for drinkers. The beach is excellent but does not possess umbrellas or cabanas for shade, only young palm trees. The upside is we booked the On Beach Romantic private dinner for two at an extra cost and it was well worth it. It was the hiighlight of our trip! The butler, champagne, salad, bisque,10 oz. steak with a 10 oz lobster tail, exquisite dessert along with the privacy were unparalleled. As a side note, if you are travelling with someone who requires a wheel chair, make reservations with an outside agency well before you travel. I would give this resort 3 stars. It was pleasant but not exceptional.
