The package was very good for the money, the sleeping rooms needs some updating. The AMSTAR shuttle service representative was never there, we were told to meet her at 9:00 am the following day but she was never there, and than found out that we needed to make an appointment which we thought was kind of odd. We run into her by coincidence and told her that we needed to reserve the shuttle back to the airport.
This was our third trip to a Riu Resort and enjoyed it more than the previous two locations but we actually have no complaints with either of those. Just our personal preference with the location. The staff was entremely nice and helpful. We did not have any negative encounters with any phase of this trip except upon arrivial at the Cancun Airport thru Customs. It was extremely crowded and so disorganize. The departure on the other hand was very fast and efficiently handled. We were impressed with the airport transfers by AmStar to and from the resort. They were very professional and on schedule. Our first experience with CheapCaribbean.com and plan to use them for our next vacation adventure.
I stayed at a Rui property in Cabo last year and it was amazing I was hoping for the same quality this year. Food was the same and so were the rooms. But what the resort had to offer could have been a lot better. The location is perfect though.
Probably one of the best vacations I've ever had! The beach was absolutely breathtaking! The pools were nice, but especially the pool with the bar could have used a good cleaning. But I can imagine it is difficult to keep that clean considering how busy it is there. Service was great in the restaurants and around the resort, but getting someone to come to your room when you are having a problem is darn near impossible. Fortunately for me, I was able to fix the problems myself on the two occassions I asked for assistance because no one ever showed up. Rooms were nice and clean, beds were a little on the firm side, but were fine. The food was okay. Breakfast was great everyday, lunch was good, and the dinner buffet was hit and miss - sometimes it had some great options, sometimes not. The three restaurants you need reservations for weren't so great, the Asian was definitely the best and it is a buffet so there is no wait. The mexican and steakhouse left a lot to be desired and the wait was so long. If I went back I would skip both of those places. It was nice to be able to visit the other two Riu's while there, we had lunch at the Riu Yucatan, it was nice and we went to see a show there as well which we loved. Javier, our cheapcaribbean rep at the hotel was great in assisting us with transportation and excursions. Had a great time and can't wait to visit again!! The pros most definitely outweigh the cons! The beach itself is worth the visit!!
The Riu Playacar is on a magnificent patch of beach and is its highlight. The service people are extremely friendly and try to be helpful--even the chefs in the buffet explained the ingredients in every dish if we asked them! The charm of this hotel is that its not ultra-modern; for that, try the Riu Yucatan, which looks like it could be a hotel in Las Vegas or Miami Beach..ultra modern and alienating. The Riu Playacar is supposed to be destroyed next year, to "upgrade" it, and we hope it doesn't follow the fate of the Yucatan..
My vacation was the best ever!!! The resort was AWESOME!!! You truly do not have to leave the resort to have a magical experience as it is all inclusive and the restaurants/rooms/pools and beach are all wonderful. I would definitely suggest that you visit.
