If you want to relax

This was a very relaxing vacation. The beaches are beautiful! The rooms are just steps from the most beautiful pool and the gorgeous beach. The staff is great. everything is at your fingertips 24/7. plenty of food and alchol. always chairs around.

I love DR... BUT the Riu Palace Macao is NO BUENO!

I stayed at the Riu Palace Macao this Sept. the place is old and i do not recommend it to anyone. The food was absolutely great, the workers were nice. I know its hot down there, but you at least want to feel cool in your own room, but the room had a broke AC and the ceiling fan was too. Elevator broke constantly and there were power outages all the time. I ask them repeatly to fix my Ac and my fan, they looked at me as if I had two heads. They keep on saying tomorrow, tomorrow we will fix it, but nothing. I would recommend a newer resort if i was you. This January 2011 me and friends are going back to DR but not staying at the Riu Palace Macao.

Probably the uglier looking Riu in Punta Cana

Hotel is very clean; the staff is very friendly and welcoming. Don't forget to Tip and they tend to be even nicer, it's always good to get to know the daily staff like the night bartender or afternoon guys so once you tip them they tend to take care of you alot better. The pool is useless the Riu resorts next to macao have bar pool and way better spots so we tend to go over there every time. the food is good, even though I ate like crazy but somehow I lost weight...I guess the activity and thanks to alot of a MamaJuana! ;) The crowd this time tend to be all family and with their teenagers which wasn't bad for some of our friend who were younger! :) Overall I wouldn't necessarily go back to Macao or rather the next resort to it, the palace one. but it's an excellent place. Also the booze collection is not that great and sugar loaded hence the tipping would make things better, stick with Rum and Tequila.

Cabana right by the beach, love the bartender there Parasailing

5 Night Stay

This was our first trip to the Dominican Republic. It was a beautiful place and we will return. However, our stay was not quite so beautiful at the Macao. Cons: Men were required to wear long pants to the buffet dinner every night. Pool was sub par, no swim up bar. Main walkways were centered to the hotel, so if you had a room on one of the outer wings, it could be quite the walk. Room service was less than average. Buffet confusion. The overall layout of the buffet caused a traffic nightmare. The main food island was in a U-shape and everyone met at the end to try and fend for their sides. Food quality is not that good. Opted to leave one of the theme dinners for room service. Don't even try the casino. Pros: As with anywhere, tipping helps the service. Majority of the staff was friendly and helpful. Environment was very clean and well maintained. Overall, we would not recommend to stay here if other options are available. We have had good luck with the main Riu Palaces.

Riu Palace Macao

The Riu palace was ok. The People at the front desk (especially Ana) were very polite and very willing to help. the hotel's was beautiful, but the rooms were so so. the bathtub/shower was not very spacious and there is mold in certain spots. the worst part, however, were the mosquitos. we actually had to change rooms because it was so bad. our second room had a view of the pool, which made the stay go from 'fair' to 'average'. the pools and the beach were great, but there were a lot of people trying to sell you stuff... constantly. you couldn't get a cocktail without being asked to go parasailing or buying a necklace or getting a henna tattoo. there was a massage booth on the way to the beach which was awesome. the breakfast/lunch/dinner buffets were really good. the dinners at the "restaurants" were ok. Krystal (i think thats right) was really good and the ambiance was amazing. the japanese place was decent, and there was a little unwanted guest in the form of a roach about the size of my thumb that scurried across the floor. all in all i would recommend getting drinks and food from the main patio area and krystal, everything else was ok. i probably would not return to the Macao (or the dominican republic for that matter, as you were basically told to stay put on the hotel and couldn't go into a nearby town) but i would probably stay with the RIU hotel chain if i was in another foreign country and they had a hotel there.

Great Getaway

Everything about the Riu Palace Macau was great, the room, the service, the pool the beach, the food the drinks! The hotel is not a gleaming brand new facility but it is well kept and not pretentious. It also was accepting of all, gay or straight.

WONDERFUL

Just got back !! Any-one who was not happy here is nuts, Spotless, food, drinks very good, the people are truely wonderful all of them, the ocean & SUN is what I went for HEAVEN!!! Entertainment was so fun had a GREAT TIME!! ( the beds were alittle hard for me) but having coffee on the balcony every morning was worth it..we thought the steak house was very good..being from buffalo fancy food at krystals was not our cup of tea..the only thing i didn't like was i thought there wouldn't be little kids, I don't like parents bringing kids around drinking & smoking in the lounge & they don't watch them, they run off & the help is bringing them back, they don't even look for them..crazy..over all alot of freedom to walk safely for miles on the beach and try out the other rui hotels & I did win alittle money at the casino, alot of shopping close by, but if u go down to the market make sure ur ready to bargain!!

life is good... WONDERFUL

Riu Palace Macao

The resort was close to the airport, which is good considering the condition of the roads in the Dominican. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We made a side trip to La Romana, which is about 1 hr 50 minutes away, and Francisco at the front desk was overly helpful by arranging round trip transportation, coordinating with the destination and following up with us. The beaches were spectacular! The only negative was the airconditioning in the room was not very cool during the day. Fortunately, we stayed on the beach all day. I will definately be going back.
