rui properties

There were three Rui hotels next to each other . We had our pick of pools , lounges , bars and restaurants . Everyone was just great . No questions asked , great service and friendly employees . There were six of us and never did we wait for any meals . Would go again in a New York second . We had a wonderful time .

I would go back tomorrow!!!

The most beautiful beaches anywhere! We had a very relaxing vacation. The food was pretty good. We could always find something to eat at one of the restaurants. The burgers, not so good. The entertainment wasn't bad. They tried real hard. Some shows were better than others. Would definately recommend Ocean World. I was NOT happy at all with Dioby the representative. He tried to double charge us for an excursion on our credit card, and when we refused to pay he threatened to cancel our transportation to the airport!! I had to throw a big fit and they let us go. Do NOT use credit cards. Sometimes they don't work, and I've been told they will sometimes charge you later for a something you didn't buy. This was NOT the hotels fault though. They go out of their way to make you comfortable and happy. They are cleaning ALL THE TIME. I've never seen a hotel kept up like this one was. We had a great time and will definately be back.

Great place for the price

I am a time share owner, so this was the first vacation I ever booked not using time share. I was apprehensive at first because the price was so great. I was not disappointed at all. Booking through Cheap Carribean was easy and when calling with questions got the answers I needed. The Rui was beautiful. The only negative comment is the rooms, especially the bathroom needed to be updated. Everything was very clean, just not in perfect condition. Otherwise the grounds were well kept, the beach right there and gorgeous. The snorkeling right off the beach was great, lots to see. The staff could not have been friendlier. The food was wonderful too, plenty of places to eat with a large variety of choices. This is a place I would go back to and would reccomend to others.

A+ for value!

This vacation was great! We loved the staff, and the weather was great. Food was fantastic at the beginning of the trip, but seemed a little repetitive nearing the end. Drinks were good, and the night-time activities were very fun! We really enjoyed snorkeling, and the fish there are plentiful and colorful! It might be a good idea to wear beach shoes if you plan to walk out into the water though due to the number of spiny sea urchins! The best part is that all three RIUs are attached. So, if you are staying in the "medium" resort, the brand new one with the better pool, better music, and better food is just a 3 minute stroll down the beach. If you go, don't forget to get a picture taken at the pagoda! Overall- well worth it! CHEAP CARIBBEAN IS TOPS! Everything was well layed out- no connections/transportation to be figured out- its all ready for you! We are definitely coming back next spring!

BEST VACATION EVER

A friend and I stayed at the Riu Merengue October 7th-14th of 09 and we had a blast. This resort had two sister hotels so we had access to their swimming pools and some of their restaurants, it was awesome. The people were great, the food and drinks were awesome everything was perfect. We found a really sweet deal on CheapCarribean.com and decided to book and I'm so grateful I did. We definitely got our moneys worth. From the aqua areobics classes in the morning to all the fun activities they offered throughout the day, I have to say I dont have any regrets or complaints, this place was awesome and I wish I stayed longer. If you are looking to have an awesome vacation go to cheapcarribean.com and they will make sure you will have the BEST VACATION EVER, you will not be dissapointed. If you want a good deal and want to have an unbelievable experience go to cheapcarribean.com

The Fall of Riu resorts in Puerto Plata DR

My first experience with Riu I stayed at the Merengue, this was in 2001 the food was great the service was excellent the staff couldn't do enough to make you happy the only bad thing was that they didn't serve Presidente beer so I purchased the beer outside and brought it in for my enjoyment. I went back a number of times over the years and stayed at Mambo and Bachata with friends and family I was a RIU CLASS member which meant nothing cause nobody honored it the staff never added the times that you stayed to the account. The food got progressively worse the service is terrible and when you complain no one cares, I now stay at the Lifestyles VIP as long as you book thru CHEAP CARRIBEAN you get to be a VIP and go to all the parties, the food is pretty good and the entertainment is great. I have spoken to many who have recently stayed at Riu they left midway and moved to other hotels they said that it was filthy and had a lot of cockroaches the A/C didn't work and food was terrible so although there pools and beach are beautiful the resort has really took a turn for the worse! Don't stay there BAD BAD BAD!

Dominican Riu Merengue Resorts

This grouping of 3 resorts, interconnected with winding tree lined paths, was a true tropical paradise. The view from the gazebo overlooking the bay was outstanding. The staff was very friendly and attentive to our needs. Our entire group was very favorably impressed!

Good value

We booked last minute and got reasonable value. We had a good relaxing vacation and didn't have to think to much about the logistics. This is not a five star experience, but we weren't really looking or paying for one. I recommend for reasonable people.

there are better ones out there

This being our third stay at an all inclusive resort, we found it to be our least favorite. The rooms were more like a hotel than a resort. ( no coffee pots in the room) The food lacked selection although the service was very good and accomodating. The beaches were beautiful and you could always find chairs which was nice. The entertainment at night was THE SAME THING....over and over. Got a bit boring. But they did offer lots of activities during day around the pools and beaches for the quests which we enjoyed.

Riu Merengue

We just returned from a lovely time in one of our favorite parts of the world. Enjoyed the resort very much, the only downfall was the beaches were VERY windy, not sure if it was the time of the year or the location, but some days we had to sit at the pool, which to me defeated the purpose of being at the beach. All in all, a great time was had by all and we met some great, fun people from all over the world. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. I wish we could go more often:)
