The people at the Resort and in Tamarindo in general were very nice. Most everyone spoke decent English. The food at the all inclusive buffet was ok. The food at the al la carte restaurant was phenomenal. The pool was good. The only downside about the pool was that they played music up beat dance/cardio music all day long. The beds were decent and everything else in the room was great. Be careful going on the mega combo tour with any of the excursion companies. We were in a bus or van traveling down potholed filled roads for 3 hours there and 3 hours back. I wouldn't of gone had I known how long we were going to be in the van/bus. The zip lines were great at Rincon de Vjejo volcano, but the concrete water slide was pretty rough.
Great value for the price. Staff was very nice and the pool and dining area were always very clean. The food was wonderful so many options. A walk away from downtown Tamarindo where you can purchase anything you'd need. I would suggest buying a prepaid sim card at the airport before you leave though because they charge you for WiFi by the day. It's $12 a day for 1 device.
Loved my stay at the Occidental Tamarindo. Hotel staff was great. Clean rooms, grounds meticulously kept. Went during rainy season, it was wonderful . I liked that most of the guest were locals, gave me an opportunity to work on my Spanish. Access to beach was great, right behind the pool. Loved this location, didnt feel touristy. Downtown close enough to mingle with the locals. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay, looking to return back very soon. Could use a little work on menu items, after a few days, it all started to seem repetitive. Food was tasty though.
Spent 5 days, 4 nights at Tamarindo Occidental. Room was great, staff was very friendly and helpful. Food was good, however after a few days it was monotonous. What I really liked was the location to downtown Tamarindo (less than a mile). Wanted the experience to hang out with the locals, enjoying their food, customs, etc. Like most places, they depend on tourists for $$, however, I didn't feel pressured at all when asked to buy stuff from the street vendors. Met some nice locals, and ate the best ceviche ever!!! So fresh.. and only $5. Mostly a surf town, a lot of younger folks hanging out. For me, I just wanted sun, beach, relaxation... and that worked. I did do a sailing excursion along the coast which was excellent. No cell phone, no work emails.. just food, drinks and beautiful weather. Will come back again.
