Overall the hotel was lovely; however, it was very small and dining was limited. There was only one buffet for dinner and the reservations for the two restaurants were difficult to come by although the one night we actually got in to one of the restaurants, it was empty. The pool/beach towels go by 830am and they are not refilled regardless of what the employees say. I checked back as suggested on 5 different occassions during the day and wound up using bath towels from my room. The gym could use some additional treadmills as well as a working air conditioner. It is important to note that the employees are very friendly and helpful.

The staff was amazing, and the price was just about the cheapest around, if not the cheapest. It was well worth the money, and the resort, beach, and pool were great. But I still can't speak highly enough about the wonderful staff. If you're looking for a resort-style trip, I highly recommend this one.

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay here. the staff was excellent especially in the dining facilities. I wish we would have brought water shoes to explore the lava areas near the shoreline during low tide. This is a great get away for a few days to refresh. Be sure to take advantage of the travel opportunity to Ri con valley or Nicaragua these were both great! We hope to be back next year!

Awesome trip! Food, resort, and service - thumbs up!

We had a FABULOUS 2 week stay at the Grand Papagayo! The staff was friendly and the rooms were great. My only negative was that we were there at the end of the rainy season and they were waiting on a shipment of towels and other room supplies so we were low on towels a few days. But other than that we had a WONDERFUL time. The food was great and so were the drinks : ) would def recommend it and would love to go back!

GREAT LOCATION. AWESOME ACITIVITIES. HAD A GREAT TIME.ONLY DRAWBACKS WERE NO ATM IN HOTEL AND WAITING IN LINE FOR BUFFET AND DINNER.I PRESUME MOST PEOPLE DONT GO ON VACATION TO WAIT IN LINE TO EAT.VACATION SHOULD BE ABOUT CONVENIENCE.OVERALL GREAT TRIP THOUGH, SAVED BY EXCURSIONS AND OFF RESORT ADVENTURES.

Occidental Grand needs little bit of update on towels. They were clean but most of them were ripped and with holes. Please have small changes before you get there.Hotel do not have small bills($1,$5). Beautiful country,nice people....

my daughter & i had a great time here. the food was good, the people were very friendly and helpful, and there were lots of fun things to do. the resort is very pretty! gorgeous views!! we didn't want to leave!!

Room conditions were terrible.We had to change the first room due to terrible smell and terrible situation in the bathroom.They could not find a room for our first night.Thus, we had to spend our first night breathing in poisonous air.Next day, we had to wait until 1:00 p.m. to move to another room ( half a day was wasted). Dining options were not great at all for a four star hotel.Ther servive in the main room was very good though. Beach towels could be obtained only betwen the hours of 10a.m. and 5 p.m.with a lunch break at 1:00p.m. Very unusaul for a 4-star resort. They try to talk you into buying some kind of a time share thing.Do not waste your time. However, birds, animals and flowers were fantastic.We had a feeling we were in the middle of the rainforest. We are not sure that we want to be in this hotel again. One day trip to Nicaraugua is a must.

The hotel sits on a hillside there are some nice views from areas of the resort. We had a few frustrations. The first room they gave us did not look like what was advertised or what we booked. It had 2 twin beds when reserved 1 king bed. It was in an older part of the hotel & was dingey-mirror had the reflection worn off, the shower tile was painted black, the tub spotted, etc. When we complained the next day they moved us to a nicer room similar to what was shown on the web site. The meals were fine, nothing exceptional, the biggest frustration was you needed to wait in a big line every day that you wished to try one of the restaurants to make a reservation & they would only let you try 2 of the 3 restaurants. The bar service was excellent & you could have your choice of drinks & as much as you wanted. Costa Rica is lovely & very clean. The people were very nice & friendly.
