Great Value for the Money

We went here for our honeymoon, and it was really wonderful. We had heard not-so-great reviews about the food and the hard beds, but really, we were pleasantly surprised with what we got. The rooms were very large, ours overlooked the mangrove jungle, and very well-kept. The food is average, but if you want variety you can walk down the beach to Albertos and get a great meal. If you tell the time-share people as soon as you arrive that you want to be left alone, they won't bother you for the rest of the trip. The wildlife is beautiful, and the beach is great! It's definitely a great value for the money you spent, and certainly the nicest resort I saw while I was on the island.

Occidental Grand Cozumel

This is a lovely resort. The grounds are very prettily nestled in the jungle so that it keeps with the integrity of the natural landscape, so much so that wild iguanas come in from the jungle to eat bananas the staff leaves for them. The pools are very nice and well kept although I can't imagine you would need a pool with such a beautiful beach beckoning. The beaches are isolated separate enough from neighboring resorts that if you like a quite stroll along the surf it's a very pleasant option. The grounds are beautifully manicured however it is still the jungle, I would recommend bringing mosquito repellant if you plan outdoor activities at night time. The rooms are roomy clean and modern, and the staff is welcoming and pleasant but not obtrusive. There are several dining options, one buffet style (with MUCH to chose from) that you can just stroll up to when ever the mood strikes and a separate smaller dinning room where one must make a reservation. There is also a small grill by the beach where you can grab a burger in your swim suit and towel, which was very convenient. The food over all was adequate and definitely did not leave me wanting but was not a five star event either, better than average for an all inclusive. It is a bit far from town, which is easily solved by a short cab ride or if you're brave you can rent motor bikes. As most resorts in this part of Mexico it has the usual orchestrated sales companies trying to sell you a trip or a timeshare, cheapcaribbean did warn me about these prior to the trip and tell me how to avoid them as well as having their own less aggressive personnel available if you would like assistance organizing an outing or water sport. Over all my experience here was most pleasant and I would visit again.

Occidental Grand Cozumel

My daughter and I recently completed our 4th stay at Occidental and had an excellent time. The staff makes this resort as they all work very hard to accommodate guest needs. The diving is superior and Dive Palancar is tops!

The air conditioning was not working in the dining areas so it was uncomfotable to eat breakfast and dinner. The nightly entertainment, other than the Karaoke, needs to be improved. The snorkeling trip was great. Overall it was a good value.

Occidental Grand---Bargain Luxury

Where do I begin? What a fabulous vacation we had at the Occidental Grand. And what a great price! The resort was gorgeous and immaculate. The service was wonderful and friendly. It was truly a magical experience that won't be forgotten. We were upgraded to the Royal Club upon arrival and were overwhelmed by the gracious service. The room was beautiful and very comfortable, especially loved the large closet and the wonderful shower area (the best shower I ever had on vacation). The food was also great, huge variety of choice, fresh and delicious. I could keep going back there every year.

It is a nice location. The pools, beach, grounds are well kept. Getting into the special resturants can be challenging. Beach towels and snorkel gear were also challenging to get. Some of the staff goes out of their way to assist you, others not as much.

Best evening shows

Our favorite part of staying was the evening entertainment in the center courtyard. The fire show was awesome & the traditional Mexican dancers were great with beautiful costumes. The landscape was set back in very well kept tropical surroundings. The food was excellent. The only drawback was if you like being able to see the ocean from your room, you would be disappointed, but it was only a short walk to the ocean from our room. The timeshare people were hard to avoid, but did not harase us. Our biggest problem was that you have to purchase WyFi to connect to the internet, even if you have your own laptop. Most other resorts provide connection free or for a small fee if you have your own laptop. This is how we stay connected with our family when we are out of town.

An overall great place to stay

From the price I payed I didnt expect it to be so nice, or so close to down town. There are always people cleaning. The food was great! We ate at the buffet almost everyday. 24 convience store right across the street. Multiple malls, night clubs and flee markets within walking distance. Didn't have to worry about anything. The company that provided transportation from the airport and vis versa was available throughout the trip and was much more trustworthy than any other tour company.

Not as good as last year, but still great

This is a smaller intimate resort, which my husband and I really like. It never seems crowded. The employees are nice and helpful. We love that there is always ample room for beach lounge chairs and lots of papagyos for shade. The pools are very nice. The food is very good for an all inclusive. The mixed/frozen drinks are delicious and Corona is on tap. The scuba diving shop is conveniently on site. The rooms are nice with nice large modern bathrooms. The beds are not as hard as I have experienced in other resorts. We went to the same resort last year and it was not as good this year. They have simplified the bar selection, so there are not as many varieties of hard alcohol and drinks. I could no longer get my favorite, mango margaritas. The hot tub was broken. The beach lounge beds were there, but the mattress/mats were removed so they couldn't be used. Also, the website is misleading regarding restaurants. There is only one location option for breakfast and lunch. There are 2 restaurants and the buffet as options for dinner. The food is good, so this was not an issue for us. The night life is probably a little dull, but we were not looking for a nightclub atmosphere. The evening bar is nice and relaxed. The entertainment was good on two of the nights we were there...mariachi band (best I've ever seen) and fire show.
