We have stayed at the Occidental a few times . We stayed their 10 years ago when it was the Allegro and fell in love with the place. The pool is to die for. It is the biggest pool on Palm beach. The hot tub is grand and right in the middle of the pool! Palm beach is absolutely gorgeous! Our college age sons loved all of the activities at the pool in the afternoon. My husband and I just loved the beach! It is the most beautiful beach we have ever been too. The sunsets are to die for! Thats the real reason why we keep coming back to Aruba! Since it has been the Occidental the rooms have all been totally renovated and just gorgeous. The buffet is great for Breakfast and dinner, but the al a cart erestaurants are wonderful. You will never have a bad meal. They also have a beach barbecue once a week that is soo good. I love the casino. I am not a gambler but love to play bingo. Every night at 10:30 they have bing and I won $50 the last time I was there. My husband and I love to just sit in the lobby at the bar and watch the big screen TV. We did it with tons of people the day the president of the US was sworn in. We had a blast and met new friends! I also love all of the little shops at the Occidental. You can pick up anything you need. At night you can go across the street and watch the waterfireworks that are set to music. The staff is amazing! Theyn will help you in any way they can. Make sure you do the All inclusive. It is well worth it! I guarentee that if you book the Occidental Grand you will have a wonderful vacation!!
We traveled to Occidental Grand in 2006 and had a great vacation. We have been to many other all-inclusive resorts but this was by far our favorite. Rooms and grounds were clean, well maintained. Staff was friendly. Food was excellent, especially the Japanese restaurant. There were plenty of choices at the buffet, with variety each day. Beach was nice, white sand, clear water. Would definately recommend this hotel to others!
We chose this resort in Aruba for their all inclusive themed restaurants and we were NOT disappointed! The food and service were excellent. The all inclusive is the way to go.The only problems we had were getting there at meal change when everything was shut down to prepare for dinner and no food was available for an hour and we were starved by the time we did arrive- but there are places to eat a short walk from the hotel. Also the room we booked was not the one we were given. They did however change our room to the one we wanted without a problem .We would definitely go here again and will try other Occidental resorts in other countries. Our favorite was the themed restaurants.
This was my first time in aruba. It was a great time and the service was awsome. There was alot of things to due around the resort.
The beach's were beautiful around the resort, they had a lot of different activities to do which was great. The rooms were overbooked due to the swine flu outbreak in Mexico while we were there so we didn't get a great room but it was ok who wants to spend a lot of time there when you're in a virtual paradise? The dining was okay in general, but i've learned to lower the expectations when we go to an all inclusive resort. Restaurants around the Island were awesome though.
We have stayed at the Occidental in Aruba three times. This is a nice hotel with good food and a cool pool. With a decent sized casino, shops for the browsing and a neat rooftop bar open until 11 PM, it is a great place to stay. There is a new shopping center just a short walk away. The beach is beautiful and you can walk for long distances in both directions. The weekly beach party has entertainment and more food than can be eaten.
I went to Occidental Grand Aruba for my honeymoon & absolutely loved it! The staff made the experience very exciting & pleasant. The beach was amzing! I would go back i a heart beat.
We arrived early but they gave us a room that was available, but the bed was very hard. They switched us to another room and the bed was fine. The resort was well taken care of and the staff was very helpful. The resturants were ok, typical resort food. The pool and beaches were very clean. Get up early to reserve your spot by the beach and pool! My wife and I will try a different resort next year.
My husband and I chose to go back to Aruba for our 1 year anniversary this past June as went went there the year before for our honeymoon and had a great time! I absolutely LOVE Aruba!! The Occidental Grand Aruba is where we stayed for both of our trips. The hotel is sooo nice and clean and the staff were amazing. Everyone was always so prompt on your requests and the service is excellent. The restaurants have great food and there is always some kind of entertainment going on to keep you having fun! This was my first time purchasing a trip through CheapCarribean.com and it was so easy and perfect that I will continue to always plan my trips using this site. I experienced absolutely no problems on my trip as in the past I have had problems/mistakes happen while I was on vacation when using travel agents. I encourage everyone to use this site for your planning and definitely go to Aruba. It is so hard to try and write how great of a time we had - you must experience it yourself! It is definitely well worth your money!!
Aruba is a beautiful place. The beach is spectacular and the breeze keeps down the heat. The Occidental Grand overbooked the hotel and when we arrived were asked to move to another hotel down the street for two nights (only there for 5 days). We would have to walk back to the Occidental for meals, drinks, beach, pool. When we told them we didn't want to go down the street they told us that we were not being cooperative and got mad. They promised that if we went down the street that we would get an oceanfront room. I asked if the room would be ready for us when we had to check out of the other room and was told no. The day we left, a couple who were promised the same deal, were upset in the lobby because there were no oceanfront room for them. This hotel is a combination of time shares and regular hotel. Time shares are a big push with this property. Needless to say, the room they put us in backed up to the alley. At least our room did not flood like several rooms down the hall. The beach in front of Occidental is the best around. They seemed to be quite understaffed especially at the pool bar. The resort was full and only two bartenders. IAt times it was impossible to get a drink and the wait time in restaurants was long. I loved Aruba's clear water, clean beach. Paradise could have been so much better if the hotel was more customer oriented. I would go back only because the Occidental is probably the best all-inclusive available. I really wish that some of the other hotels would go all-inclusive!
