We had a thoroughly enjoyable trip, the pool area small compared to larger hotels was just fine for us. The food choices were a little limited but the quality was great. This was our 14th all inclusive vacation and one of the best. The staff was very attentive and nice. Giving your waiter and or waitress in the restaurant and or bar area a small tip will insure they remember you and give you excellent service, they deserve it even though it is all inclusive. Took the family and the kids want to go back. One side note, no one at the bar knew the difference between Bourbon and Whiskey, after second drink didn't matter much.
We do not travel very often and the feeling of uncertainty was immediately relieved . The hospitality appeared to good to be true, but to our surprise it remained excellent through out our vacation at Los Cabos. It began with our vacation reps. at the airport and ended with our taxi taking us back to the airport to head home. The feeling was genuine and it appeared that everyone was kind and dedicated in ensuring that our stay was a great one! The environment is definitely unique and positively memorable. The sights were beautiful, the food was great, and the people at the resort and out were friendly. I look forward to returning some day soon and would not mind staying at this same resort. If you are a family like ours with some fear of traveling, I suggest you book with cheapcaribbean.com. They trip was safe and worth every penny. God Bless and Safe Travels!
We were at this resort July 2010: I have never been to an all-inclusive before, but I would definitely go again based on this experience. The child care (for a few hours each day) meant that my husband and I could also enjoy a few hours together to read a book, go for a swim or just do nothing. The food was very good (perhaps a bit institutional, given the large quantities they make each day) there were plenty of options and lots of fresh fruits salads. The staff were all wonderful, and so kind to our little one. We found plenty to do for a week, without leaving the property. . it has to be one of the most carefree holidays that I have every had. .
Everything was great except the beds. They were the most uncomfortable. Very hard
Enjoyed stay, food and service was very good. However the protected beach was not as advertised. The jetty had been partially destroyed by a storm and didn't provide the protection from the surf that we had hoped. We chose this particular resort so we wouldn't have to travel to swim and snorkel and had to deal with the surf. If they have repaired the jetty good. If they haven't you had better be a strong swimmer to use the beach. Young children beginning swimmers can forget about using this beach.
The only air conditioned areas in this hotel are the rooms, and one of the restaurants. The gym is older, and not air conditioned. (It may not even be there any more - they said they were going to remove it when I was there) The pool was less than refreshing; the water was warm, and very crowded. If you like kids, and teen agers this is the place for you. I found it difficult to get to any of the bars - the pool bar included - as there were so many kids about. The staff were very good and helpful, but only as good as what they had to offer. The beach is red flagged much of the time, and not that inviting. You're quite a way from Cabo San Lucas, so if it's night life you're after, then find a hotel closer to Cabo. Over all, I would not go back, but if you just want to get away with the kids, then this might just be the place for you.
The best part of the resort is that it's all inclusive, the food and drinks were great. The service was good. The only complaints I have are that the beds were very uncomfortable and it was a bit annoying that you couldn't call to make reservations at the restaurant, they only accepted reservations if you go to the concierge desk - it was a bit inconvenient. We wished the pool didnt close so early and you could hang out there longer than 7/8pm. Also the Olympus tour guide at the resort didnt give us the correct info about our tour and pick-up time, so we had to come out of pocket with money that we didn't expect. She also pushed us to pay cash, but didn't have any change, so were forced to give her an undeserved tip!
Nice trip. Loved the pool and the beach...you really can't 'swim' in the ocean, but you can play in the water with the pelicans. Great staff, welcoming and pleasant.
Did we enjoy ourselves, yes. Did it meet our expectations, no. Overall the resort needs some tender love and care, from the small details like empty waterfalls, to the larger ones like service. Tips are expected and determine the quality of service you receive. This was frustrating because you have to buy your experience. Also, because we were told tips were included. Upon check-in we were advised for the first time that the servers work for tips and they are expected. There were a total of four restaurants only two of which were open each day and one which needed a reservation. Reservations could only be made day of starting at 9am. Reservations filled up quickly because everyone was trying not to have to eat at the buffet again. The service at the a la carte restaurants was pretty bad (and I am from LA). The servers would rush you through your "romantic" dinner and demand that you order all of your dishes at once. Yes, appetizers, entrees, and desserts all at once. Thank goodness for Jorge, the Restaurant Manager. He was the only one that provided a genuine service. The servers at the daily buffet (La Palapa) were quick on their toes but mainly to keep the birds away from attacking our food. It was like a scene out of a Alfred Hitchcock movie. The pool was great, but again drink service was poor and sparse. The selection of alcohol was mid-level at best. Word of advice is to find your drink of preference fast and stick to it. Also, beg the bartenders to put a decent amount of alcohol and hold off on the sugary fillers. The beach bar wasn't opened because there were only 300 out of 700 guests at the resort. And the snack bar was something out of a bad carnival. The room was clean and very well air-conditioned. However, the "mini bar" was nothing of a bar. Instead, it had only water, sodas and a couple of cheap beers. Our "mini bar" was broken and kept our beverages warm. The beds are beyond hard, but we quickly asked for a mattress pad and they accommodated us nicely. Room service, at an all-inclusive resort, was $5 for the delivery (plus tip). That was also frustrating. Lastly, the fitness center was being re-done (which we weren't advised when making the reservation) and re-located to an outside shack next to the pool. It consisted of a few dumbbells and stationary bikes. For my massage, I had the choice of having it outside in a hut (where a man kept walking up asking my massage therapist questions) or inside a small air-conditioned room. It was definitely not a spa experience. This resort was really built up to us when we booked with CheapCarribean by our sales rep. I don't think we was trying to deceive us, because a few guests that visit the resort annually said the quality had significantly decreased. Would we go there again, no. Would we book with CheapCarribean again, maybe. This resort was rated as a 4 Star (or at least that is what we were told when we called CheapCarribean) and in actuality it is more like a 2.8 or 3.
I booked 5 nights at Melia for my friend and I as a way to say thank you for taking care of all of my stuff while deployed. I read some reviews on Trip Advisor and decided to take my chances. The reviews were correct when they said the beds were hard! I don't mean firm, even with a mattress topper they were hard as a board! My ribs felt bruised when I woke up in the morning-so beware. The all-inclusive food was decent. The food in the restaurant was alright, but mostly we enjoyed the snack bar near the pool. It was always stocked and if you ordered something that needed to be cooked,it came out hot. The buffet style dinner was subpar- mostly luke warm or flat out cold. I was not impressed. The staff was very friendly, carried our bags, brought us welcoming drinks, and answered all of our questions. On the 3rd night we decided to venture into town.. This is where it got ugly. We had dinner (I can't remember the name of the restaurant) and went back to the resort. In the morning I was violently sick. My friend called the resort Doctor who cam right to our room and said they needed to take me to a hospital. She put me in her car and drove me herself! I ended up having a very bad case of food poisoning. The pool water was surprisingly cold for Nov. and the 1 hot tub was always jam packed with people so we never got in. As long as you got down to the pool before 11am you were sure to get a decent lounge chair. Over all I would say that this is an alright place to vacation as long as you book with a discount. I would never pay the full price to stay here.
