Relaxing Resort in a Less Travelled Area of the DR

This was my first time at an all-inclusive resort, and I had a GREAT experience. This resort is a great place to relax and unwind. The clientele is mostly couples. The nightlife is minimal, but still fun. There are some drawbacks to the resort, but many more positive aspects. 1. The room: I stayed in the Junior Suite Superior and it was very nice. It was tastefully decorated with an ocean view and a balcony (fell asleep and woke up the sound of waves)! I never had a problem with the A/C, and housekeeping was good. However, the building that houses these suites is near the road and the resort's evening entertainment venue. While the entertainment ended around or before midnight, the noise level would have been horrible if we were on the first or even second floor! If you are dead set on this room type, try to request a room on the third or fourth floor to limit noise. Otherwise, try another room type. I'm sure it'll be just as nice! The bathroom was nice and a lot of toiletries were provided. The floor did get VERY wet during every shower though. 2. The food: The food was the main reason why I selected this resort and I was not disappointed. There are three a la carte restaurants (French, Italian and Brazilian), and they were all delicious. There was some flavor overlap between the French and Italian, but both meals were delicious. The Brazilian restaurant was my favorite (come ready to eat)! Other than the restaurants, there is a buffet for breakfast and lunch and a themed buffet dinner every night. There were MANY choices of foods for every meal, and I never ate anything I didn’t enjoy. Made to order omelets are available for breakfast, and made to order meats and pasta are both available for lunch and dinner. 3. The beach and pool: These areas of the resort are amazing. The pool area was well equipped with chairs, beach chairs and umbrellas and the pool itself is well maintained. The water was warm (as the pool is under the sun for most of the day). There are some trees around the pool area to provide shade as well. You might have to play the “towel game” to get the shadier beach chairs. The beach was WONDERFUL. The sand was nice and soft while the water was warm and clear. The waves did get strong on some days, but I never found it to be dangerous. There is also a sundeck behind the pool and a Jacuzzi near the spa area. I did not take advantage of these, so I can’t offer an opinion. 4. The bars: There are FIVE bars at this tiny resort, so you will never be without a drink if you so choose. The lobby bar is the best equipped and has the best trained staff. The pool bar is also very nice and the bartender) does a great job making sure you are taken care of. The beach bar is limited in its resources, so probably best to stick to beer and simple cocktails. The piano bar (located in the evening entertainment venue) is also limited in its resources. I think the bartender here needs a bit more training in making cocktails (i.e. I ordered a martini and got Martini brand vermouth), but he does well with simple cocktails! There is also a bar near the Jacuzzi, but I did not use it. 5. The staff: The staff was WONDERFUL! Everyone was very kind and made us feel welcome and taken care of every day of our trip. The staff will appreciate any attempt you make at speaking Spanish, but it’s not required. In addition, there is an animation team responsible for daily activities (ping pong, ring toss, bingo, etc.) and the nightly entertainment (tropical band, salsa dancing, karaoke, etc.). They do wonderful work, especially when they have a great audience. It might seem annoying when they ask you to participate in some games, but DO IT! It’ll break up the monotony of doing nothing, and you might win a prize (t-shirts, Dominican coffee or Dominican rum)! 6. Other: There is a shop associated with the resort so you can buy souvenirs or anything you may have forgotten to bring with out (like sunglasses, sunblock or shaving cream). Additionally, you can work with the hotel to book excursions that this website doesn’t offer. The WiFi at this resort is very good. I was able to FaceTime family members (I saw one guest do the same from the beach) and watch some Netflix in my room. The TV gets one non-Spanish channel. The fitness center in the facility is a bit hidden (below the pool), but it’s also very nice. There are several cardio machines (bikes, elliptical machines and treadmills) as well as free weights, and weight machines. The music in the gym is not to my taste, and I don’t know if there is a way to change it or turn it off.

Beautiful resort, wonderful service, amazing food

As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by a delicious fruit juice drink and a cool towel. The hotel is beautiful and kept immaculately clean. Staff is constantly cleaning and maintaining the hotel and the hotel grounds. Here’s a quick overview of the resort: The room- very nice and spacious. Coffee maker in the room, mini fridge restocked daily with water, soda, and alcohol. Absolutely stunning ocean view! Room immaculately cleaned daily and butler service available. The food – absolutely delicious. A huge buffet at breakfast, lunch, and dinner with an immense variety and selection of gourmet food. Breakfast was my favorite meal. The coffee is excellent. I recommend the fresh crepes with strawberry jam, eggs, and the Boston Crème donuts with coconut cream filling. The a-la-carte restaurants were also great. Our favorite was the Brazilian one where they brought meat to your tables. The meat was cooked perfectly, and we enjoyed the lamb the most. Fresh fish and seafood was available at every meal, and one night featured lobster with as many as you wanted to eat. Caviar available at the buffet. Lots of fruits and vegetables available. The food was truly amazing. The beach isn’t huge, but it was never crowded. We swam in the Ocean every day. The hotel also offers a free boat shuttle excursion to Cayo Levantado Island, which I recommend. The island has a larger beach. Bring a little cash for drinks and souvenirs there. We took an amazing trip to El Limon Falls, rode horses down to a beautiful waterfall, and swam at the bottom of the waterfall. The staff at the resort was absolutely amazing and literally better service than anything I have experienced before. As soon as we got there, we were greeting by a smiling Alfredo at the front desk and the head butler, Ramon. Ramon was very helpful and spoke fluent English. Arnoldo at the buffet greeted us with a friendly smile every day and gladly made me fresh crepes. Angel was very sweet and brought us room service as soon as we arrived after a long day of traveling. We also really like the servers Jose, Marin, Eliu, Mary, Felix, and Ingrid. Angelo in the hotel lobby even walked us to our room holding an umbrella during a strong downpour of rain. Antonio (Antonito I believe, but we called him Antonio) at the pool bar entertained us daily and taught us a little bit more Spanish. Anneris, one of the servers, reminded us of my husband’s sister with her spunky personality. Although I can’t remember the names of the entire staff, they were all extremely kind, polite, and helpful. Ramon and Alfredo know a lot of English, and the rest of the servers know some English, and we were able to talk to them a bit in Spanish using the little that we remember from learning it in High School (nearly 20 years ago). The entertainment was great, too. A live singer by the piano bar one night and a man playing the keyboard another night. One night, we attended a production, and the animation team was amazing. One of the dancers could have been in a Broadway production. This resort doesn’t have a wild and crazy atmosphere, but drinks are readily available at four different bars. We had an absolutely wonderful time! We were looking for a small resort that didn’t have a loud party atmosphere. This was a perfect, quiet, and relaxing getaway.

Above Expectations

This resort is everything you could ask for. It's beautiful, the staff is wonderful, the food was good, and the facility is clean and luxurious. If you fly into Santo Domingo it is a pretty long drive to the resort, but it's not too bad. You get to see the country on the drive too. I would recommend booking that transportation when you book your trip. The food was good, although some people complained it was repetitive. Don Pablo's is a really nice restaurant that was delicious. Don't forget dress clothes for the nice dinners! There is also room service 24/7 which is really good. I can't praise the staff enough. They are friendly and work hard. A tip every once in a while goes a long way but you definitely don't have to. The staff is super helpful. One day I was feeling sick and they offered me anything I could think of to help me and always go out of their way. The entertainment is not amazing, but it's still good. I did not leave the resort, but didn't have a reason to. You can go over to the island for free where the sister resort is. Going to the island was enough of an authentic experience for me since it's a public beach and there are all of the same restaurants/shops that you pass outside of the resort. All and all I recommend this place. They truly put the customer first and it has everything you could ask for.

Read so You won't regret

The food has no variety at all, every day they serve almost the same with different presentation. There was no lobster at all. There is a restaurant called Don Pablo wish has no air conditioner at any time. We went there twice and we were sweating while eating...pretty sad if they want to be 5 stars. Entertainment guys were fantastic like most of the staff, but mainly food and A/C service is a disaster

very relaxing

The service and dining options were excellent! It is a relaxing place to unwind. We were expecting a nature trail in the jungle, based on Cheap Caribbean's description, but the staff said there wasn't a nature trail.. There was no place to walk. The resort is in the middle of an area that seems unsafe, so we stayed on the resort. There was a boat shuttle available to a public beach on a small island with some outdoor shops. We flew into Santo Domingo airport and it was over two hours of terrifying driving, dodging pedestrians and motos.

Best Resort.... EVER!!

There is no way to describe the beauty of this resort or the quality of the service! First know: if you fly into the Santo Daningo airport, get a private car! The drive to the resort is 3hours long. Don't get freaked out by the neighborhoods that you drive through. Sit tight and wait for the big white gate! Once we got in the lobby, Annie said, Calm down. You're on vacation now." I guess I was a little tightly wound. Annie and Ramon worked on all the details and sent us to eat after offering us drinks. There was not a single thing we wanted that they didn't bring before we could ask. The resort only has 100 beds, so this is not Spring Break. We only saw 20 other people on the whole resort. Get the superior room and upgrade if necessary. The butlers for my room were David and Jennifer. Excellent. The managers work their teams with military precision. The entertainment staff were fun. Thank you Kettia for the Spanish lesson. The private car arrangements were taken care of for us. And the bar served Jack Daniels!!!!! Wonderful Resturant service. Thank you Oliver! Super clean. Super nice. Great drink options. A lot of steps, but so worth it! No moldy smell. Great food that feels as if someone's grandma is in the back cooking every meal! Very clean beach and very private. And make sure you go to both gift shops!

Amazing

Amazing is the best way to describe this hotel. The attention to detail and service can't be matched by many. Food was always delicious and they were always aware to make sure you cup was never empty. Daily games add to the fun and evening events keep the nights lively. Plentyof shade on the beach and the pool is great. During our trip my wife got sick and they had a doctor on call and even had a person go into the city with us to get medication. We'realready planning our return trip. The drive to the hotel is easy with the highway(make sure to have your toll money ready.... About 500 pesos each way).

This was the best vacation so far

I would recommend this resort to anyone who is in love or in any kind of special relationship. If you want to reconcile a relationship please go here. The service was more than amazing ! The attentiveness of the staff was fantastic. It was as if they could read your mind. Rooms were clean, common areas were clean, food was superb. There was something different everyday. The activities were really fun. The live band was great. The DJ could have used some help but overall he was good. You could feel the warmth of the dominican people. I intend to go back i would really like to thank ramon and david for there exquisite welcome and departure. Victor at the front desk was great helping us with our outings he gives great suggestions and directions. Wendy, glen and oliver always showed us love at dining sevices. They always had a smile on their face and were pleasant, i know its there job but they do it well. My only complaint about this whole experience is that the drinks were never cold enough for me and i think the mini fridge in the room should be set to a colder temp. Overall i would return and plan to and i would recommend to vacation here you wont be disappointed.

One word: Pampered

What an amazing place to renew your spirit. Fantastic people to fantastic food equals a really fun and nice week. The room service and maids were top notch. The rooms have Jacuzzi tubs, giant towels, & strong WiFi. There was also our own butler (Pedro) who put out scents in our room each night and prepared a special tub night with candles, petals, and champagne. We did bring our snorkel gear, but there weren't that many fish to see. Enjoyed using the included boogey boards and a turn on the kayak. The nightly entertainment was fun, too. We also enjoyed our 2 trips to Cayo Levantado (island) , complimentary transportation provided by Bahia Principe. The van to/from the ferry was always on time and the short ferry ride over the bay was lovely. Even saw a whale. If you go, bring $5 to rent a lounger and a bit extra to purchase trinkets by the local vendors. US Dollar is fine everywhere. Try to get your flights to Puerto Plata on northern side of Island. SDQ Santa Domingo is a 3 hour drive otherwise. Special shout out to our new friends Pedro (Butler), Victor (front desk), Eduardo (entertainment, Spanish lesson teacher, games), & the wait staff Yurvania, Felix, Dixon, Ramon,Yunerys. These folks took excellent care of us. Highly recommend this resort!

Samana is Beautiful

Samana D.R. is a beautiful area of D.R. It is less commercial than Punta Cuna and not as cookie cutter. The hills and mountains are breath taking. The luxury Bahia is mainly for couples. However, I wish they will advertise for singles as well. The resort does have a lot of stairs. There is an elevator if people have issues with stairs. This place is really a very relaxing get away; if you want peace and quiet and less the party environment. Then this is the place to be! I had only one issue in the resort, bathroom, there was a malfunction in the bathtub. The staff repaired it.
