Loved this island and its beautiful terrain and beaches. Best in Caribbean. You need to rent a car to explore the island and its many unique places and restaurants. We loved going to Sugar Mill and Bhananakeet Cafe and also Mountain View at Hatch Mountain where the chef/owner will cook you a gourmet dinner for a great price. Did not eat dinners at the resort after a first night experience at the Pasta House where the servers were confused and slow to respond with orders. The bar downstairs was unattended so we could not even get a drink while waiting for a table and when the food finally came it was ordinary. We loved breakfasts at the main restaurant which sat on the beach and was open to the ocean breezes, where you could watch the waves come in as you ate. Took a ferry over to Virgin Gorda and the Baths which was worth doing. Loved the whole week we were there.
This was our fourth trip to Long Bay, but our first since it became the Long Bay Beach Club. We return to Long Bay repeatedly because it fulfills our need for peace and serenity. We have traveled to the Caribbean for the past 30 years during the month of May and find it to be a perfect match of warm water, warm weather and less travelers. We had never stayed in the Beachfront accommodations at Long Bay, we had only stayed in the hillside villas. Being so close to the beach was wonderful, as the sounds of the waves were hypnotic. Our room was very spacious and the decor was fine. The rooms aren't perfect, but I don't travel to paradise to have a critical eye. The view is amazing, the shower was great, the ac worked perfectly and bed was ok. The beach is still the main attraction, and yes, we know there are rocks in the sea right off the hotel; but if you walk down the beach there are several areas where there are no rocks present. Everyone of the staff members treated us very well. We have understood from our earliest visits, that a little kindness from us goes a really long way. The biggest change to Long Bay was the food. We were able to sign up for a meal plan once we arrived and we were so happy that we did. We ate breakfast and dinner at the resort every day, and the food was delicious. The new chef, Dale, did a wonderful job. His presentation with each dinner was phenomenal. The blackened Mahi, the Anegada lobster, the filet Mignon and the Wednesday night Buffet were amazing. We had a fabulous time and will return to Long Bay. No, it isn't a five star resort, but the chef is taking it in the right direction. The staff were friendly in their reserved British manner, and service was fine. The open air dining area is wonderful. The pool area is a bit small, but we didn't go to Long Bay to swim laps. We did go there for rejuvenation and relaxation , which it delivered in spades. Thank you to the staff, we had an amazing week. Larry and Jodi
