I am here right now. All I can say is, this place is awesome! We lucked out and had sunshine instead of rain. It isn't crowded because it's rainy season. The staff could not be friendlier, nicer, or more accommodating. The Diamond King Concierge room we have is well-appointed. The food is exceptional. We have been here for two days and have thoroughly enjoyed our visit so far. The Radiant Spa couples massage was fabulous. The beach service is impeccable. There are activities day and night. There is excellent security here. We felt very safe. They have an open-air fitness area. Very nice. Two swim-up bars. Two hot tubs that are piping hot. Tea that is served piping hot. Fresh fruit kabobs served beachside and poolside. Jamaica jerk chicken seasoned to perfection and falling off the bone. There are several wonderful restaurants, but because they have just reopened under new management, the days/times are not known right away. They are working out the kinks of being new, although the exquisite staff have been here from before. They definitely need literature for guests. A map of the property, list of services, days and hours of operation for various things (we went to restaurants, gift shop, etc., and they were closed), etc., will all be helpful. They have bent over backwards to make our stay incredible. We could not ask for a more efficient and pleasant staff. The beach is beautiful. The vendors are kept at bay by two walls (one is barbed-wired) and a full-time security staff. Best food selections so far (in my humble opinion): the jerk chicken and roasted plaintain (Gregory, the chef at the beach grill, made it for us); the pumpkin soup and shrimp appetizer at Platinum; the eggplant parm appetizer and panna cotta dessert at Moonstone; and the lychee creme brulee with extra side of lychee fruit at Jade Samurai. Maurice kept us in good spirits (pun intended) by bringing us homemade pina coladas and strawberry margaritas laced with local white rum and dark rum while we lazed about at the ocean's edge on our cushioned lounge chairs. Sooo delicious! We only have one more day before we must leave. It's our first trip to Jamaica, but we are looking forward to coming back to the Jewel Dunn's River Resort again. Daine, the front desk manager, was extremely helpful, as have all of the staff been. They are happy, and it enriches the entire experience. Junior climbed a coconut tree, dropped a couple down for us, and then whacked the tops off with a long machete. Jason got us straws for the coconuts to drink the juice from and explained to us about the local customs and foods, like special rice and peas that are made with coconut milk, saw fish, and aocke (probably spelled that incorrectly). Maxwell told us about the unique harson (harmon?) trees, the fruit that falls from them, and how they are prepared to be eaten. Vidal offers us daily to go out on a catamaran for free. They also have foot pedal boats and kayaks available at no charge. Each day, they have a handmade rum drink made (the gem of the day, they call it). Once a week they have movies by the pool with special jerk popcorn. Once a week they have a complimentary eight-course meal on the pier (weather permitting). They have satellite TV in the rooms for TV junkies. :-) Volleyball on the beach. Live music in their night club, Bling. I could go on and on and on, and we've only been here for two days. We have already been telling our friends about our experience and are perusing cheapcaribbean.com looking for dates for a return visit, and we haven't even left yet! I am using the comlimentary computer in the hotel lobby. Oh, and I should tell you that we ran into travel agents, world travelers, and travel writers, and they all say that the food here is better than almost all of the other resorts they've visited on the island. Way to go, Jewel Dunn's Beach Resort & Spa!!! I would highly recommend this fine all-inclusive, oceanfront resort to anybody looking to be pampered and escape the stresses of daily life. This is the life! Aaaaaaah! :-) I hope to upload some photos soon.
great place to stay and i and wife enjoyed the stay. the dinner spots. the partying, and also so close to all excursions. the staff and people was very friendly. i wiill be going back soon. thanks Cheap car
This was a great resort. The staff was really intent on making everyone feel welcome and pampered. If you relax on the pool deck or by the sea, the wait staff was constantly coming by to check on whether your glass was full or to offer you cold sugar cane or frozen grapes. They always had activities going on if you wanted to participate. The Hobie Cat rides were a blast (and included). The food was very good, especially the pizza. The room we had was really nice and clean. All rooms had a balcony and, my husband's have-to, a good shower with pressure to wash off all the sand. We only had one issue and that was with the tour company in the resort. But the problem was handled promptly and efficiently. We were also wishing that the "night life" began a bit earlier. The nightclub was kind of lame and could have been a lot more fun with some effort from the resort. Also, the beach was a bit small, but that is generally the rule with all the resorts. Bottom line - everything very clean and comfortable and friendly.
My boyfriend and I recently went on a trip to The Jewel, Dunn's River, in Ochos Rios. The location was gorgeous and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We had great meals: Italian, hibachi-style Japanese, pizza, surf-and-turf...everything was delicious. The rooms are nice and really well maintained by the housekeeping staff (they would even come in and turn the bed down for us while we were at dinner). The only drawback to my room was that my view overlooked the roof of the Italian restaurant and I could hear service carts wheeling until very late and night, and again first thing in the morning. I was going to ask to have my room switched, but I thought maybe the squeaky-cart noise was a one-time thing (it wasn't). Ugh. We really lucked out with the weather--it was gorgeous. We went on a boat ride off the beach. Ask for Steven; he's great. I also recommend taking advantage of the catamaran cruise offered at the tour desk. We hiked the Dunn's River falls and went snorkeling, then had a little "booze-cruise" adventure back to the resort. It was a blast. The Jewel is pretty quiet at night. So, if you are looking for a late-night party, it may not be the place for you. The resort is new and not completely filled yet. But, my gut tells me this will soon change because once word spreads about how great the trip is, more people will be booking a stay at The Jewel.
We have been to many all inclusive caribbean resorts and this was truly a five star experience. The accomadations were first class from the comfortable king size bed to the beautiful decor and the mountain view patio. Also the entire resort was veryclean. The restaurants were great and the candel light dinner on the pier was wonderful. The entertainment was good and the staff was incredible. Everyone was so friendly and happy and couldn't be more heloful. The pool area and beach were beautiful. We are definately going back and we can't wait. By the way we have made Cheap Caribbean.com our travel agent of choice. The reservatons were excellent and there was not one problem. Good job Cheap Caribbean.com.
We (myself, my husband, my mother-in-law and her sister) recently spent 6 nights at the Jewel. We were pleasantly surprised at the service we received. It was definetly first class. We were told repeatedly to relax, no problem, let us take care of it, you are on vacation. We didn't lift a finger. No matter where one was on the resort, they would bring you drinks. The drink of the day was not to be missed. There was a breakfast buffet, lunch buffet and restaurants for dinner. The food was outstanding. If you missed these, there was what I call the hamburger joint and also the pizza joint. Both are outstanding. We joined in the pool games and my husband was even in the talent show and the beach dinner show. He's a star now! What made this beautiful resort special was the employees. They went what I considered above and beyond to make our stay special. I can think of nothing negative to say about this resort. Our room was even upgraded to ocean view for no reason. This was probably our best vacation. Don't miss the catamaran cruise - OMG. Dunns falls is great too. You cannot go wrong with this trip!
1st time user of Cheap Carribean -- some apprehension to start, but found no need--everything was smooth sailing, both at the airport and at the resort. Great food, great accommodations, just a great time with no worries! Excursions are available if you wish, and if you don't, just kick back on the beautiful beach or around one of the amazing pools (with swim-up bars) and enjoy the sun and surf! 1st timers need to know that you can pay part down and part later, but won't receive any documents until trip is paid in full, and that it will all come via email--make copies as you go in case you need to reference something before you receive your travel documents.
My husband and I went to Ocho Rios, Jamaica for Thanksgiving week. We stayed at The Jewel. From the time we entered the resort to the time we left, it was fantastic! We were greeted with cool, fresh mint towels and the Gem of the Day, cocktail. Check-in was easy, rooms were ready in minutes and a brief introduction was given. We stayed in the Sapphire on the 5th floor with a mountain view. My only complaint was the elevators were very loud, but I didn’t ask to be moved so that is my own fault. The rooms were beautiful, the beds nice and comfortable and extremely clean room. The staff is the best part of this resort. Everyone is very welcoming and friendly. The “Gems”, entertainment committee, far exceeded any other place we have stayed. They always engaged the guests and had a lot of fun activities to participate in by the pool side. One night there was a beach party with a buffet. This was very well done. The food was great and a huge variety. The musical entertainment was very nice and The Gems got the crowd involved with dancing and limbo. The resort offers many included activities. There is a Hobie Cat that you can take out yourself or one of the staff will bring you, if you are not comfortable with it. There are also windsurf boards and kayaks. We used the kayaks and the Hobie Cat; it was a great way to go out for an ocean adventure. The resort also provided scuba and snorkeling for a fee. There is a tour desk that has very helpful staff to book any outside Jamaican adventures you might like. We did the bicycle adventure down the Blue Mountains and the shopping in Ocho Rios. One night there is a “Dive-in” movie; you can sit in or by the pool and watch a movie while being served food and drinks. Great fun! Food: there is a good variety in restaurants and styles of food. The Japanese restaurant offers a Hibachi style meal that was very entertaining, plenty of food and it was very tasty. An Al A Carte restaurant that is more “formal”, no beachwear, offers meals in courses. Our favorite restaurant was the Italian. There is a huge antipasti bar before you meal starts then you are served in courses. Absolutely fantastic. A wood-fired pizza place; this was extremely good. Also, a beach grill that offered hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries and Jerk chicken. On Friday night the resort hosts dinner out on the pier by candle light. It was beautiful and a great way to meet other guests. Drinks: unlimited with a good variety of mid-shelf liquors. Top shelf liquors are served at only one bar. The bartenders were quick, friendly and knew your name. Bling is the disco with a house band. This doesn’t open until late and we rarely made it in here. Friday and Saturday night they have outside entertainment that was good and we enjoyed ourselves dancing. There is a “piano” bar outside by the pool that also has a pool table and a swim up. All in all we loved this resort and the friendly staff. We would definitely recommend this resort.
My wife, daughter and myself went to theis resort for 5 days and 4 nights the week before Christmas. We chose this resort after doing a lot of reseach on the CheapCaribean website. One of the primary reasons we chose this resort is that it is for adults only. Nothing against children we just liked the idea of a relaxing venue. The Jewell is certainly that, every whim is taken care of, the staff was outstanding, The resort is well-taken care of, it is so clean that it is amazing. The ride from the airport is approximately 90 minutes, not real sure why the driver decided we needed to make a stop at some little store. Speaking for myself we were more looking forward to getting to the resort. We were welcomed at the Resort by staff members who had cold-clothes waiting for us. The resort has a little class in the mornings to acclimate you with the resort, unfortunately, we missed the one on the day of our arrival and there is no class on Sundays, so by the time we could attend one our trip was over half way done. My daughter and our walked up the Dunn's Falls (well at least 75% of the way) I have a knee replaced and had a heart stent put in so it was a little too much for me but was great fun. We also took the 12 hour day trip to the rum factory, the YS Falls and the boat trip. WOW! We saw parts of Jamaica that the natives have never seen. What a great trip and the tour guide was fanastic. Overall, the Jewell is a great resort and we would highly recommend it to others. Our contact with the CheapCaribean was liewise outstanding, everything went like clockwork except for our 6 am United flight did not leave on time which then kept us hopping all day to catch our adjoining flight.
We went to Jewel dunn's from dec 16-21 in order to get married. We arrived in rain and it rained for the next 3 days, pretty much non-stop. But it didn't matter. We were greeted and from there on the experience was fantastic. Our room was up graded without our asking. Every thing from check in went smoothly. Our wedding planner, Leila, was a angel. She planned every single detail of our wedding and it was amazing. Nothing was beyond our requests and it was a perfect day finished off by a double rainbow over the ocean. Garnet, ot favorite bartender made our day even more special by making great combo drinks with champagne. We enjoyed every moment. Thank you
