Arrived very late evening on Christmas Eve, and Julie with the hotel team had made special arrangements for us to receive our keys from the night watchman. Smoothed our entry completely, and checked in on Christmas morning. Great location above Orient Beach, and a very comfortable room with a kitchenette Could just about get the wifi from the lobby area while on our veranda. First couple of nights we had some mosquito issues, which were later resolved with the purchase of some bug spray. Staff at the restaurant were very nice, and the food was quite good. Would have liked a bit more variety with the breakfast (included in the package), but entirely serviceable and always tasty and in good supply. One day the water was shutoff to our room (local outage, completely beyond the hotel's control), and they were willing to move us to another room. Did not end up needing to make the room swap, but the staff were again very helpful. Terrific arrangement with the beach clubs, CoCo beach was very nice, and the staff there, particularly Johan, were great. Would definitely rent a car if you will be this far out, and we really preferred the French side to the Dutch. Nice place, excellent value, and would definitely return again.
Hotel was clean, close to the beach and local restaurants and our room had a beautiful view of the ocean. We are planning on returning next year.
La Plantation is a great value. The rooms are spacious and the service is fine. Dining options are numerous in the area and exceptional in Grand Case a short drive from the hotel.
nice hotel..my room was the best part as it was very nice, quiet, nice bed, good ac, good tv... breakfast was ok, not lavish but pretty good drinks seemed a bit expensive at this place ... I went mainly to beach bars for food and drinks which was ok with me as i spent most of my day down there anyway.. staff very nice here... location ok not far from beach would stay again. thanks.
No coffee in the room. Have to wait every morning 7ish for a cup of coffee. Of all the resorts I have stayed this is the only one without complimentary coffee in the room. Can't use the power outlets in the room because of different voltage. Have to take laptop to office to recharge. Desk clerk very unfriendly. Will NOT stay at this hotel again.
We arrived on a Tuesday afternoon. We had to wait a couple of minutes at the desk for some help, but that's because the desk woman was escorting someone else to their room. When she returned a few minutes later, she was friendly and efficient. We were taken to our room on a golf cart! She showed us how everything worked, and then left us alone. For some reason, we got a free upgrade! The room was large enough for our needs. We had a (sparsely) equipped kitchen, but it was certainly functional. There was coffee, so I was happy. The king size bed was comfortable. The bathroom had two sinks, which was nice. The toilet was behind a separate door in the bathroom. I'm not sure when the place was built, but I don't think there have been a lot of upgrades since then. There were many coats of paint on everything. It all looked fine, but if you're expecting total luxury, you aren't going to find it. The room was clean, quiet, and very Caribbean looking. The internet was spotty. They still use real keys, and we were given only one set. The main building was a short walk away. There was a restaurant, pool, and bar. We had a plan which included breakfast, and it was a basic breakfast. Nothing fancy, but certainly enough to get enough to eat. It is open-air, so expect birds and the usual stray feline or two. You are given towels upon arrival, and can exchange them as needed. They do keep track, and will charge you if you leave there and they are a towel short. The beach is a short walk away. There are five other resorts all in the same "family", and you can sign at any of them. The tab will be put on your final bill. Of course there are plenty of other places, but you'll have to pay as you go. If you use a "non family" beach, you'll probably have to pay for the use of beach chairs and umbrellas. Speaking of paying, they do take American dollars. The exchange rate seems reasonable. Many of the places prefer cash to plastic, and you should be aware that there are NO ATMs on Orient Beach. Plan accordingly. The pool at the hotel is a typical hotel pool, and about 15 yards if anyone wants to know that. I was able to swim laps. The restaurant is staffed by very friendly helpful people. The food is good, but nothing outstanding. The bar drinks are good. I thought the restaurant prices were a little high, but after having been there a week, I realized they were in line with other places in the area. Checking out was easy. All our tabs from the beach made it to our bill and all had been converted to dollars from euros. The bill was accurate and there did not appear to be any mistakes.
Had a great stay and this is the 4th time we have been at this hotel in St. Martin's. Real value for money. The rooms are comfortable and the breakfast is a typical European one but it fills you up. The staff are always friendly and helpful and the location is excellent. We'll be back if it is still there after the lashing the island took from Hurricane Irma.
I prefer local hotels rather than chains. i want to feel I am wherever I'm visiting rather than at another XYZ hotel that could be in any city in the world. That is the reason my wife and I have become regulars at La Plantation in Orient Bay, St, Martin. It is a welcoming oasis in the Caribbean, staffed by people who have become friends offering genuine welcomes, help and service. The rooms are comfortable. The location is convenient to the beach if its pool is not enough, and also to a square full of restaurants that supplement the on site restaurant and offer a variety when French cuisine is insufficient. This is not a 5-star spot, and has no delusion or pretension. But it is a delightful place where you can relax, enjoy the sun and feel the atmosphere of the French Indies.
