Not "Adults Only"

Despite being categorized as "Adults Only" and listed as a distinct resort, Hideaway is basically just an extension of the larger Royalton resort, which allows families. It has it's own restaurant, private pool, swim-up bar and section of beach, but everything else is in the larger resort. So beware. If you're looking for a true "adults only" resort, this isn't it.

Great, Affordable Vacation

My husband and I booked this vacation along with another couple. Overall it was a really great experience for the money! We had been to a Sandal's all inclusive before so we were curious to compare because we paid almost half the price for this one. You definitely get what you pay for. The beach was pretty, but not the most amazing. Seaweed was pretty bad and there were locals walking around trying to sell you things. Resort staff was also constantly walking around offering you spa options and asking if you'd like to book any excursions, room upgrades, etc. It wasn't unbearable, but it was a little uncomfortable after awhile to say no over and over again. We also weren't sure about whether or not tipping would be expected. The other all-inclusive we had been to had explicitly stated on its website not to tip since it was all already factored in. At this resort it was never made clear so we brought money to tip and ended up feeling like we needed to most of the time. I am not saying that is a bad thing, just good to know and to factor into the overall cost if you are on a tight budget. All of the staff was very friendly and eager to serve/help though! We were treated with great service while at the resort by everyone from the moment we arrived. Our room was nice and was cleaned every day as well! The food was actually very good too! Drinks were great and there were bars around pretty much every corner! My only complaint is post trip...We realized we had accidentally left a couple of items in one of the drawers in the room. These items were fairly pricy/nice items too totaling a couple hundred dollars in value, easily. We contacted them less than 24 hours after checking out and when we asked if they had found anything they said they hadn't and that they couldn't go look either because the room was already occupied again. They said they'd follow up, so we sent an e-mail with pictures of each of the major items left. It's been almost a week now and we haven't heard anything. So I guess my only advice is to make sure you keep track of everything you bring and make sure that it all makes it back with you! That being said, we never felt unsafe or worried that anything would go missing while there. It is just unfortunate that once we left they didn't do their diligence to help us get back what was left.

It's worth your time and dime

The hideaway provides you with enough adult privacy without feeling excluded from the entire resort. However, the Zen restaurant is overrated and so it there steak restaurant. Unless, you plan on standing in long lines go to your other dining options. The Intialian Restaurant is excellent. Please plan to bring extra cash for taxis if you want to be dropped off at the hotel zone or any tourist spot. The average cost is $72-100 for a round trip service to your destination. Just say No at your arrival to CANCUN because you will be solicited by their competitors, i.e. Moon Place for a hotel tour or time share. Don't let them fool you into thinking it's your prepaid travel service. All in all the hotel is new, clean and service is good. You will enjoy your time at the Hideaway. Have fun!!!

This place is a gem.

My husband and I decided to go to an all inclusive for 3 nights and we picked the perfect place to do it! 1. The place is sparkling clean! They are CONSTANTLY cleaning what already seems to be a clean place. 2. The staff was so unbelievably friendly! They were so kind and attended to our every need in a timely manner. 3. The room we got was stunning facing the pool with a jacuzzi in the bathroom. Everything worked well including the espresso machine which was a huge bonus. 4. The gym and spa amenities are unreal! They paid such incredible attention to detail and really spoiled us. A huge thank you to Carolina and David in the office for constantly taking care of us. Edgar who attended to our needs and even came on his day off to help us. Sergio by the pool gave us outstanding service by the pool. Christian at Zen who did a great job at the hibachi!

great place

The place is beautiful clean and modern. Great variety of food and drink. Love the multiple restaurant choices. The only negative thing is the constant push to upgrade or buy excursions, this gets real old real quick. Overall would go back.

Nice Hotel - Amstar Was Terrible

The hotel is very nice and modern. We stayed on the adults only side which was far from the children's area and worth the additional cost. The buffet is great with many options but the restaurant dining options could be much better. They don't accept reservations so you are almost guaranteed a long wait. It takes a long time to get your food. For example we ate at Score, the sports bar, for lunch because the buffet was closed and it took 1 hour to get 6 chicken wings and a chicken wrap. Another night we had to send steaks back to the kitchen at the steak restaurant because they were overcooked. I reccommend sticking to the buffet. The staff at the hotel is extremely kind and helpful. The bartenders are very nice and exude positive energy. The beach attendants are attentive fast and kind. The only real negative about our trip was dealing with Amstar. Once we landed in Mexico it took 2 hours for Amstar to get us to the resort. This was after speaking to many Amstar reps and all of them saying a bus comes every 15 minutes. Unfortunately that was not the case. Then they failed to mention that we were supposed to schedule a time to be dropped off at the airport at the end of our stay. So after checking out at the resort we went to the Amstar rep at the hotel to see where we need to catch the shuttle to the airport. We asked when the next shuttle would arrive and she said they come every 30 minutes. Then she followed that up by asking us when we were scheduled to be picked up. After sharing with her that no one from Amstar notified us that we had to schedule a pick up time she said to come talk to her in 45 minutes. This was strange to me seeing that there are shuttles that come every 30 minutes. After 20 minutes we came back and asked her if it was possible to get on the next shuttle which she replied "I don't know, please come back and see me in 45 minutes". We couldn't take the risk of waiting around for nothing to happen and then miss our flight so we had to pay a taxi to take us to the airport. Be aware that the complimentary ride to and from the airport with Amstar is not what it seems. They leave out important information and make you wait longer than what they tell you.

Nice place to stay - not for beach lovers

We just returned from a very nice stay at the Hideway at Royalton. The hotel is very clean and the service was exceptional. The employees are always smiling, saying "hola" and working their tails off. Our biggest let down was the beach. I knew from the reviews, that I read before going, that there was a lot of seaweed. We were just surprised how much seaweed there was on the beach and in the water. This was not the crystal blue calm water that I am used to seeing. If you are not a beach lover, it is an awesome resort. We did spend a lot of time laying out on the beach, just because there were always chairs available, it was quieter than the pool area, and the service was great. We did not eat at all of the restaurants, but the ones we did get to were great. Just be prepared for a wait to get into some of them, as they do not take reservations. Having stayed at resorts that you do need to make reservations, I thought this would be a nice change. I actually prefer having to make a reservation. I think if you went when the resort was not so busy, it would not be a big deal. If you can, upgrade to the Diamond Club, then you can make reservations in advance. Our flight did not leave until 7:30PM, the hotel was full so we could not get a late check out, but they did have a hospitality room that we could use and that worked out fine. Overall, the hotel was very nice and I would go back.

Overall great, with a few exceptions

I want to start by saying that overall this place was amazing, and as my first experience at an all-inclusive in over 15 years, I will definitely do it again. Highlights were: great food, good butler service (Ruben was so attentive and went above and beyond in every way, as we were celebrating an anniversary), very clean, variety of exceptional food and drink options, and good service at the pools, beach, and restaurants. Lowlights: miscommunication at checkout that delayed our departure a little bit. As we were boarding the transfer, a hotel worker asked if we had a checkout slip! I had no idea what he was talking about since I had just settled my bill and received nothing. It was resolved quickly. The second thing was a rude staff member at Armadillo the evening we tried to eat without reservations. The hostess said there were no tables then offered to find us one if we bought a bottle of wine! It was insulting to think we had paid as much as we did for the vacation only to be told we couldn't eat without buying a bottle of wine. She eventually gave us a pager which we took and went to wait. We decided to eat at Agave (which was amazing) and the pager NEVER went off all night. The third low was the day a lady threw up in one of the Hideaway pools and the other was undergoing refurbishments. We decided to go to the Diamond Club pool with the other couple we were on vacation with but they were Hideaway only. Without even listening to what was going on in Hideaway, staff-memeber Kevin was extremely rude to us asking us to leave the Diamond Club pool area. We were Diamond Club but the other couple was not. We asked repeatedly to speak to a manager, and Kevin was very rude and made a scene (so much so that two guests asked us about it the next day when they saw us at the pool), but finally two women came over and apologized for Kevin and told us we were more than welcome at the Diamond Club pool since the Hideaway pools were closed for reasons beyond our control. We ended up having a pleasant time. Lastly, many of the machines at the gym were to of order, so although we could work out, we were not able to do a lot of cardio because the treadmills and bikes weren't working. It is a very nice gym with a good variety of equipment, but it would be better if everything was working. I would like to end on a high note. The hydro therapy that accompanies the massage services was AMAZING. Well worth it, and the massage was also great on the beach.

Great trip!

We really enjoyed our stay here. This was our first time working with Cheap Caribbean and while I was skeptical due to other reviews, we had a very smooth and enjoyable experience with this trip. If there was one thing I would like to see change is being able to honor the room request we had. When we got to the resort, they had us facing not the greatest view and asked us to pay more for something we requested months ahead of time. Could be part of getting you to spend more money but I didn't' like that. We LOVED the dining options and quality of food. Another note for couples, this is NOT a true adult only resort. Please be advised that children and families are everywhere. If you are okay with that cool, just don't go into this resort thinking it is adult only because that is not true. Overall a wonderful trip!
