Entire family enjoyed the resort, food and beach. Everyone had a great time and the trip planned by cheap caribbean came off without a hitch. We also enjoyed the staff, hotel was not loud and food was excellent with a great variety. Would recommend to anyone considering.
Let me start by saying that this trip was booked last minute and we were not expecting it to be a top resort. WE got it a a value price so we had that expectation going to it. Value: For the price we paid and everything we got at this place, this is by far the best value we have had in coming to Cancun for the past 5 years! Service: In my opinion this is by far the best place for service we have stayed short of the Four Seasons or Ritz-Carlton. 90% of their staff went out of their way to make you feel like home. Beach & Pools: The beach is great here. Plenty of chairs and a few have shade if you want it. We never had a problem getting chairs by the water. The pool is a little small but it was never full. The 2 hot tubs by the ocean where the best part. I will have to recognize Veronica (from Guerrero) as the best person at the pool bar. She always had a smile on her face and never stopped working! I wish I could hire a few of her to work for me. Dinning: There are 3 on site restaurants and 6 next door at the Royal Solaris. There is a large variety to chose from so you will just about find anything you like. Our favorite sit down restaurant was Veneto. We had the lobster dinner and our friend had the steak and they were both excellent. Our friend said the steak was Ruth Chris quality so that should tell you how good it was. The Sushi bar and Pizzeria were also very good. Room: We had a nice room on the 4th floor with a partial ocean view. WE got moved to an ocean front view and it was very nice. The rooms are nice and big. The only thing was the bathroom was on the small side but it had a large walk in shower with a waterfall shower head. Great place to stay and we are going back again this year in Jul-Aug for another 7 day stay. Book it you won't be disappointed!
I cannot say enough good things about this resort. The description of all-awesome is true. Having the option of the quieter Gr Caribe hotel was a great choice while still having the ability to use the facilities and restaurants next door at the Royal Solaris. Food was excellent, very fancy at the sit-down restaurants, buffets were great too. The service was better than I have had anywhere, including staying at upscale resorts in USVI and Disney. The people are so friendly, so warm-hearted, and will get you anything you desire if you ask, and of course if they can. The activities were so fun, the shows next door fantastic, and basically we just want to go back...immediately. The ocean was beautiful, waiters will come to your chair. The waves are strong, and as a good swimmer from New England, I had no problems but it was a workout. We had a room on the first floor with an Ocean View. I like a higher view but we were so close to the pool and beach it was perfect if we needed to run back for something or to let the kids head out first. It was never loud nor did we have any trouble sleeping. The pool is a good size as its not over crowded. The hotel has a beautiful lobby but it doesn't give you a wow factor as some other hotels- but that's about the only thing I could remotely come up with for anything negative and I'm not spending my time hanging in the lobby anyway. Oh- the kids club was fantastic, our kids loved it!!!!
First, let me just say please DO NOT agree to the "special breakfast presentation" or "welcome tour of the hotel" unless you are seriously interested in buying a time share with them and/or sitting through a 3 hour sales pitch the first morning of your vacation. They will lure you in with promises of coupons for $35 massages (but won't mention that it is only a 30-minute massage which is barely a deal in my opinion) and $35 tours, which they failed to deliver for us. And when we tried to ask them about it we spent 3 days arguing with people and being told to speak to someone else every time. This is the way most of the staff seems to deal with things. You ask one person about something and they tell you to talk to someone else, then that person says the same thing and you end up running around in circles until you just give up. They don't seem to really care about your experience and the way the business is run just feels kind of like a scam. So, just say NO right off the bat. Even though they will tell you it is just a welcome breakfast and they want to give you a tour of the hotel which seems nice, it is not the case. You'll have a breakfast/sales pitch introduction, then straight to the sales room where there are people everywhere talking numbers and packages and it feels like a stock exchange. And finally, there won't even be a tour. And I know the coupons sound tempting but don't fall for it. If you even get them they are not worth it. Also, I am pretty certain that they water down the alcohol there. My wife and I don't drink very much and could barely even catch a slight buzz from many numerous drinks even after telling them to make them extra strong. I watched the bartender pour half a glass of alcohol in a drink and it still tasted like fruit juice and water. And the shots went down way too easy. Ended up just getting stomach aches from all the syrup they put in the drinks. And food was hit or miss, some of it was really good and some was not so great. That being said, the hotel itself is beautiful. Love the Mediterranean style and architecture and old authentic look especially compared to the other hotels nearby. We got a nice room with a balcony and view of the lagoon. Although there was a lot of work and renovations happing on the hotel so woke up to loud pounding a lot. The best part was the beach which is big and really nice. Never very crowded as most people seem to hang out by the pool all day.
This was an awesome place to stay! First the cons: very small pool, our room smelled musty, the door between the rooms (adjoining door) apparently was thin and you could hear normal conversation through it, the time share and vacation club people. The pros: we shared with the adjoining resort/hotel, they had a big pool, the beach was about 300 yards long, the service was awesome, they never stopped cleaning, the food was delicious, good nightly entertainment, friendly staff.
I traveled with my husband and 16 month old son. We booked this trip through Cheapcarribean.com and stayed for 6 days/5 nights. I really wasn't sure what to expect due to the varied reviews. Overall we had a very nice, relaxing time, which is what our goal was. Check in was relatively quick. After getting our room key, we were told to speak to a gentleman at a desk nearby to tell us about the hotel. He did that, but also tried to get us to attend their timeshare meeting, which we declined. He was not overly insistent that we attend, which was appreciated. We were placed on the far right hand side of the hotel (facing the ocean) on the 4th floor (The room had a partial view of the ocean). This proved to be a great location! It was away from the main thoroughfare, (which I could only imagine would be very noisy) but was not out of the way either. Although its seclusion provided us with a quiet area, we did have very noisy neighbors. It seems nightly they allowed their child (maybe 5) to run up and down the hallway screaming. This also happened during the day at times. This is no fault of the establishment clearly. The room was a good size. We requested a crib and it fit comfortably next to the bed. Sadly, I did not allow my son to sleep in the crib all night because the spring board under the mattress was not firm, so with any weight, the mattress would sink. That made me uncomfortable with him sleeping in there, I think it would be too easy for him to suffocate accidentally. We had a king size bed so it was fine to bring him into the bed with us. The mattress in our bed was firm, which I liked. We did not have a bathtub, but a stand up shower with a sunflower shower head. If you need a tub, ask for a room with one.The room set up was nice. They had a seating area off to the side of bed with a coffee table. The room had a safe, decent sized closet with hanging space, drawers and a shelf, iron and ironing board and hair dryer. The room also had a coffee maker and a stocked mini fridge (water, soda and beer). The first day that we went out and came back, our room had not been cleaned, not sure why, because when we left the room they were cleaning in the area. After that, our room was cleaned daily (bed made, fresh towels and garbages emptied). Room service is available but understand it will take a little bit to get your food. Unfortunately, I would see room service trays in the hallway for hours, one day the same tray sat out the whole day, with left over food in them. It's not the end of the world but it is unsightly. Free wifi was available in the rooms and in the lobby. Service in the room was ok, but great if you went to the lobby. We spent most of our time by the pool. The pool is not very big, which was fine by me. They have a shallow area and the rest is about 5 ft deep. The poolside chairs and beds were very comfortable (much nicer that what is available next door). We were generally at the pool by 9am and on the first day, it was easy to get a bed for our family with good shade, however, on subsequent days, we found that people went out early and put towels out on the spot they wanted without actually being there. That made getting a good spot more difficult. One day, there was a towel on one of the beds from 9am-2pm and NO ONE ever went to sit there! We eventually (after 2pm) sat there. When where about to leave we were counting our towels to hand in and we I said to my husband I don't know who's this is (the towel holding the spot) and at that very moment a couple was walking by (coming from the beach) and said, oh, that's our towel just leave it there and kept walking.... The point is, that bed sat available all day while they were on the beach. I spoke with another couple who was there in February and they said it was very difficult to get a spot by the pool, but June was much easier. The ocean there is breathtaking, however, the water is a bit rough. All of the staff that we dealt with were very helpful and kind. We don't drink alcohol, so we cannot attest to the strength of the drinks, but the poolside staff was very attentive. The food at the resort was overall average. In the restaurants, the portions were very small, but had a nice presentation. If I was still hungry, I would just order another meal :-) If you are health conscience, beware...the food is not very healthy. One thing that is nice that I didn't realize at first, is that the menu in each restaurant is changed daily! Since our son was young, we were back in our room early most nights. We sat in the lobby a few times but there is not much going on. If you want more action, go next door to the Royal. If you are looking for a laid back, quiet, family environment then GR Caribe is preferable over Royal Solaris. Royal had a lot more people and a lot more going on. Although it's an all inclusive resort, we did tip. And finally concerning bugs and mosquitos, I was surprised to not have encountered any the whole time we were there.
The resort itself was ok. The beds were hard as rocks and uncomfortable. The adult pool area was very small and young kids were still allowed access so became noisy at times. Upon check in they were very nice even offered to confirm my transportation to return to the airport the night before departure as well as allow me to print my boarding passes. We were signed up for a welcome breakfast an offered a promotion on an excursion to swim with dolphins(something my we wanted to do anyway). When we arrived for the breakfast on day 3 we eventually realized the breakfast was for a membership buy in to the Solaris resorts (a timeshare). My daughter and I spent an hour and a half and at the end I declined. Once I declined to become a "member" the service we received went from poor to worse. We were no longer allowed to utilized all restaurants on the property they were then deemed "members only" restaurants. The resort did not provide our transportation to the dolphin excursion plus we had to pay an additional docking fee upon arrival which was never disclosed to us. The day before departure I went to the concierge so he could as he offered, call to confirm our transportation to the airport the next day as well as print our boarding passes and he told me he could not do either as I was "NOT A MEMBER". Well what this concierge failed to realize is my daughter and I would have gone back and probably even purchased a membership at another time as right now is just not a good time financially for me but because we were treated so poorly after declining I will not only NOT return to the resort I will also NOT and I mean IRREVOCABLY will never return, recommend, nor purchase anything from the SOLARIS resort organization again. This trip was a mother daughter trip that my daughter and I had planned for and were so looking forward to that I am beyond disappointed and disgusted with the resort. I also will never use Cheap Caribean again as the airline "spirit" that they booked us on cost me an additional $403 above and beyond what I paid for our trip. All around an extremely poor experience and I wish I never booked this location or thru this venue.
This was our 3rd trip to Cancun in the last four years. The beach was great and the drinks were ok. If you want to stay at medium priced resort and if you don't care about brand named alcohol this was pretty nice. We had a ocean view room and it was very clean. We really had no issues with the resort but we did spend most of our time at the sister resort because it had a more party like atmosphere. The food was average and we did the breakfast buffet every morning and tried the restaurants in the evening. The entertainment was good. If you chose this resort with this in mind you will not be disappointed. They will try to sell you a VIP Package that offers brand name alcohol and lobster if you want.
This was a wonderful vacation. First time at the Gr Caribe by Solaris. The food was great, the service was excellent. Everything was clean and well kept. Very friendly family oriented resort. Our 16 year old loved everything about this vacation! The only con.....we had traveled all day. When checking in (which went smoothly) we were handed off to a sales rep and he would not let us go to our room. He just kept talking and talking about excursions and how he could get our money back if we gave a deposit at the airport (which we did not) Finally, my husband just stood up after 25 minutes of this situation and said, "I'm done, let's go!" The guy still did not get it!.If we had not been in Cancun before, this would have really turned us off! We loved the vacation! Sun, sand, and fun!!!
My family and I had the BEST time. This resort is very kid friendly!!! My family ranged in ages from 4yrs old to 50yrs old, and everyone had a blast. The beaches were stunning, and the pools were just as wonderful. Plenty of room and space for everyone to enjoy. No one was ready to come home, and we will be going back next year!!!
