This resort was great. My partner, two children and I spent 6 nights in April at the resort. The white sand beach was beautiful, the array of pools, accommodations and food were all wonderful. We have stayed at another all inclusive and this one was even better. I cannot say enough good things about the staff at the kids club. Our kids had a blast and we had adult time... Win win.
The Family Club is very similar to Disney in their dedication to serving families. The water park and kids/teen clubs were awesome. There were kid amenities in the room (robes, slippers, toys, candy) and even miniature cars available for transporting toddlers around the property! The resort is on a natural reserve and aside from the beautiful scenery we also saw lots of unique wildlife (e.g monkeys, coates, iguanas). The rooms were spacious and updated. The staff were very helpful and checked in daily to ensure we were comfortable. The buffet food was quite good and there was a lot of variety. We went to 3 of the restaurants and the only one that stood out was the Snack Riviera - Steak. The resort was HUGE so we certainly did not explore even 50% of the options during our weeklong stay. There are a couple of opportunities for improvement. The main pools are a bit dated and need to be repaired. There are not nearly enough beach chairs at those pools and even less shade given there are no umbrellas. There are numerous drink options at all of the pools, but you can't order food from the pool staff and I actually only saw one person servicing each pool so it took 30 minutes to get a drink unless you walked or swam to the bar which was just fine. The mini bars are stocked and included in the all inclusive, but room service is not, which basically means you have to get dressed and go to the buffet if you want to eat during the day. Despite multiple attempts we were never able to get a second key for our room. They ran out. It was bizarre. The kids club is for kids 4+. I didn't see that in any of the materials. We were a bit bummed as our toddler couldn't use the facilities. The staff did include her in some of the outside games. The kids club is closed 3 hours a day over lunch and dinner. This was disappointing as it made it impossible for my husband and I to have a night out without the kids. Finally, at other resorts we have received a daily newsletter outlining all the available activities, events, etc.. Riviera does not offer this which made it really difficult to know what was going on. Unfortunately, we missed out on most events. Overall, the resort is beautiful, the staff is friendly and helpful and everyone had a great time! We would consider returning and recommend it to other families.
This hotel was wonderful. I enjoyed staying here over 7 days with my husband and two boys ages 14 and 7. Here is my review: Overall hotel - great! The staff at this hotel really thinks of everything. I am a person who really focuses on cleanliness and this hotel did great. During our stay I observed the staff keeping the grounds spotless. I saw no trash and the common areas were great at all times, morning, noon, and night. I can honestly say each person on the staff I encountered was friendly and willing to help with anything I needed. Value - I think that I really did get my money's worth here. Including hotel, meals, drinks, and entertainment for 4 people really adds up and I feel like I saved money by choosing all inclusive. Beach - There are rocks in the water for sure. More than other beaches in the Caribbean I have visited. Water shoes did help somewhat but this is a downfall for me. Other wise, the beach always had chairs and areas to relax. The surf was a little rough but not unswimable. This may be an issue for those with little ones. Pools - great. Many options. We has a Family swim out room and it was well worth the price! Every day we were able to enjoy a semi-private pool right outside of our patio. It was a great option for our family so that people who wanted to rest could do so in the room or on the patio while those who wanted to do something could be in the pool. There were also very few people in this pool which we liked. The main pools were kind of loud for our taste and this pool in the family area was much more our speed. There are calmer and crazier pools throughout the property so there are a lot of options. Dining - A small issue here. The a la carte restaurants are great but the buffets were lacking taste. While the food is presented beautify and the service is great, there is a major difference in the food taste at the buffet versus the taste of food in the restaurants. My recommendation here - book a la carte restaurants every night late enough that you can make the reservation so you do not have to eat at the buffets at both lunch and dinner times. Another issue we found was that the outdoor dining options were all the same. Burgers, hotdogs, fries. tacos. In order to go indoors to eat you must be dry. This presented an issue when we got tired of the burgers and hotdogs. We had to plan to dry off (30 mis or so) before we could go inside to eat. More outside dining options for lunch would be nice. Rooms - these were great. Our room gave our family of 4 plenty of room. They were cleaned daily. My only criticism here is the floors are slick tile and it made getting in and out of the room while wet and hazard. We had to get beach towels and wipe the floor every day so no one slipped after coming in from swimming at the pool or beach. Kids club - My boys liked going here and playing video games after dinner. It was a good way for them to relax, and for me and my husband to have an hour or so to ourselves to wind down from the day. Spa - if you book within the first 24 hours of checking in they give you a discount. It's a nice discount. You also get an additional hour at the spa to enjoy the common areas (sauna, whirlpool, jet pool, and so on...) My husband booked an 80 minuet stress relief massage and he said the entire experience was great. So many things to do here! We will go back again.
From check in to check out, this place was amazing! It caters to both kids as well as parents, with champagne at check in, a stocked refrigerator with aodas juice and mexican beer thats replenished daily, to the concierge making our dinner reservations, to bar service at the kids and adults pool, you will be more than thrilled to be here!! A testament to this resort? My husband was sick as a dog (reaction to some medication taken before the trip) and was sick for half the vacation. We called the resorts doctor who was amazing in responding to his needs and giving him meds and a thorough exam...and even after being so so sick, my husband says he would go back ever single year to this resort!! Amazing!
The resort is HUGE. It is hard to find things and know all that his happening. The beds in the room were incredibly hard and pillows were flat but it was clean and spacious. The kids had a great time at the pool but there was never any kind of drink service at that pool you had to go get your own. The buffet restaurants were all just "ok". Nothing special. The beach was crowded and had pretty big waves that didn't really allow much for swimming or playing in the water which was disappointing. While there were some negatives but it was still a fun vacation. Beautiful grounds, very nice people working at the resort (with the exception of the woman that checked us in). The drinks were good once you got them and the al a carte restaurants were all pretty good, especially the Hibachi.
overall good time, from the beginning the staff was great very friendly, the only.down side was the food. The Ala cart restaurants were not good except for the steakhouse and the only decent place was the buffet or burger place. I would still return knowing I should eat at the steakhouse every night.
family of 4, had a good time don't eat at the Asian restaurant other than that good times
The overall experience was AWESOME! The staff were super attentive and very hospitable. The only negative that when I booked with Cheap Caribbean I was offered the choice of 2 rooms. I picked the room with the swim out pool and paid accordingly. When I arrived with my other 13 guest we received rooms on the third floor with no access to the swim out pool. When we followed up with the hotel they stated that we paid for a regular family suite. If we wanted to be upgraded we would need to an additional $100 per guest! We stayed in the room that were assigned and didn't want to want to pay double again! it was the only dent on day 1. M
Princess is the best bang for the buck. I booked a swimout room and when I checked in I was denied that room because my daughter is too young. I wasn't forced to upgrade to the Family club where the swim out has an extra security door between the pool and patio for 77 more dollars a night, or I could have downgrade to a non-swimout without any reminbersment. I upgrade after getting know where with the inept staff. Cheap Carribean gave me a full refund for the "upgrade" and all I did was email them. So, call them (princess) and check age requirements for swimout before booking if traveling with a child. Additionally,it going in the winter (December) do not pay more for the family club swimout room as it's freezing. The family club swimout is shaded all day, other pools at resort are comfortable. With that said the family club swimout is likely great in the summer.
The resort was okay at best. I ended up going with another family and selected this one because it looked like it had a ton of kids stuff and activities. I was okay with it because there were two good golf courses nearby. The resort was very big and loaded with people (Canadians!). There are three or four different pools that provided a slightly different atmosphere and age groups. This is not an upscale resort by any means but if you are looking for a low cost all-inclusive and don't have a desire to be in an exclusive upscale environment this one will work for you. Be prepared to walk. Never fun with kids. They do have golf cart shuttles that shuttle you from the main lobby to the beach with stops at each pool area in between. The food was bad. I was looking forward to authentic Mexican food but this was just low end buffet style. Very disappointed. My friend that we went with got food poisoning the first day and that ruined about a day and a half of his time there. He, let's call him "Kev" for the sake of the story, eats like a machine though and was not at all selective with what he ate. He thinks it was from a runny egg yolk but who knows. Eating large portions of everything is usually his philosophy when on vacation and really even when he's not on vacation. We played Mayakoba Golf Course (PGA Course). The course was fantastic. We initially asked to book Mayakoba at the hotel desk and they booked us on another course in the area without us realizing it until we pulled through the gates. Not sure if this was a slick move or just a communication problem with our concierge at the hotel. The only other thing I want to make sure to mention is DO NOT ever book transportation at the airport. I'd book the roundtrip connections online. We thought we would save money by booking in Mexico and were convinced to do a roundtrip by the service to save 25% on the return trip. When we called the day before our return flight they told us there were no cars available and that we were basically beat. I've disputed the charge on Amex and am still awaiting their response. The charge came up as "Taxi by Hertz Avasa." DO NOT USE THAT SERVICE. Crooks. The best part of the trip was visiting Tulum and seeing the pyramids and also we went to Xel Ha Park. That was all one trip and there was plenty to do. I'd recommend this. The food was outstanding compared to the dog food we ate at the resort. Final thing that I'll say and this is completely useless for anyone reading this, my same friend, the big eater...left a big suitcase at home. The resort didn't have swimmy diapers and regular diapers that fit his two year old. I guess the point is try not to forget your stuff.
