The rooms were simple but clean, and the staff was fantastic! The food was unremarkable, but they have to please a wide range (would have liked to see more authentic Mexican food and much more spice!). The beach is beautiful and perfectly protected for kids' swimming (mine are 8 and 11), and tour operators are helpful. Skip the Jeep tour and rent a car yourself. The island is beautiful!
The staff was very friendly and helpful. Great snorkeling in front of the hotel. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
We were extremely happy with the deal we received and thoroughly impressed by the cleanliness of the resort. That being said there were a couple of things that were disappointing... Our biggest complaint was the restaurant choice and the way you had to go about reserving a table. If you didn't want buffet there is only one other restaurant, but to reserve a table you have to do it the morning of. They started taking names at 8 am but people start lining up well before that. So instead of ordering room service for breakfast and eating on the balcony my husband and I were taking turns heading to the lobby at 7:30 and spending a good 45 minutes in line. (Not exactly what I had in mind when booking an all inclusive). Activities and entertainment were also a litlle disappointing. Funny that I should complain about such a thing since we love doing NOTHING when on vacation but even to us "party poopers" it was lacking in that regard. All in all though we were happy. Next time though we will definitely be moving up a star (or 'sun' I should say)
Took a 1 1/2 hour flight from Houston and was sitting in the pool not far from the beach having a Mai-Tai. Nice place and the rooms were quite decent. It was an all inclusive resort and the food was not bad and the service was great. Friendly crew and the rooms were always clean. Only 8 minutes from downtown Cozumel via a taxi ride. Can't beat the quick getaway.
The trip was originally planned to go to the Dominican Republic but we were unable to travel then. Rescheduled to use our travel dollars and glad we picked Cozumel. We've been there on day trips but this is the first time we spent more than a few hours there. The Hotel, it's staff and all involved from start to finish we a pleasure to deal with. No problems and no excuses by anyone. The piano player in the hotel was without doubt the best entertainment I've experienced while dining.
Great for snorkeling right off the beach, great fun in the sun, what a week we had! Food, drinks, beach and friendly helpful waiters and bartenders WOW! I see so many bad reviews for this place, I dont understand why we loved it! 5stars all the way!!
My boyfriend and I stayed at El Cozumeleno for 7 nights, and it was amazing! The value was incredible, because drinks (even alcoholic) were included. We definitely saved a ton of money there alone. The food had a lot to choose from. I am the pickiest eater I know and even i found something good every meal. We wished we had known that the very nice resteraunt was inclusive, and had delicious options. Our room was extremely nice, and the location was amazing. Lots to shop, beautiful ocean, wonderful pools. People are cleaning the resort all day long, and everything is spotless. I have already recommended this resort to everyone I know, and would suggest it to anyone. We loved it!
We spent a week here in February 2009 during school vacation. Although we booked two rooms, there were none available when we checked in. When we arrived, the lobby was full of couples that they had no rooms for. The hotel systematically overbooks and forces the poor guests to stay in rundown properties away from the resort The buildings are over run with large spiders and lizards. You must walk back for meals. To appease us, they issued us a travel certificate to stay free for 4 nights some other time but could never find room to accomodate us unless it was in July. The certificate expired before we were ever allowed to use it. Spend your hard earned money someplace else ! This place is not worth the aggravation!!!!
I have read a number of poor reviews. Look it is a great place to relax and have a great time. The service is amazing. The place is spotless. The food is average we recommend eating from the menu or eating at the restaurant. The grounds are wonderful and we recommend getting a car to explore the island. We had a wonderful time. We travel all over the world. I would say it is a solid 3 star. Remember it is Mexico. You are on vacation. Enjoy yourself and let the little thing slide. Bring your own mugs because the drinks taste a little funny in the plastic glasses that they give you; ask for name brand alcohol every time. They have it in the back. And tipping is defiantly the way to go. You will get better service and it is the right thing to do. The average worker makes less than 300 us dollars per month. The people are friendly and will help make your stay worth the trip. We will go back.
Just got back from my trip to the El Cozumeleno, I wish I was still there. The water was beautiful, the beach, though not huge, was just what I needed. The locastion is great, out of town, but only a short 10 min ride away. Most of the staff is friendly, with the exception of 2 bartenders who were very rude. The food is the worst part of the resort, but there was always something my girlfriend and I could eat and lets face it, you're not there for the food. Make sure you ask for the premium brand alcohol, or else they will give you the rail and that really is horrible there. All in all I had a great time. The room was big, with about 85 channels on tv, most in spanish, but there were some american channels, I even got to watch the NFL playoffs. Had a balcony overlooking the beach. A very good time for the price, I will be back. P.S. take a taki into town, it is only 7 dollars each way and the deals cant be missed, especially if you like tequila or corona :)
