I want to write this review because I "research" my vacations before each trip. I was very nervous for this vacation based on the reviews I read before going- I'm not sure if we stayed at the same resort. I would love to know what resorts, people stayed at, that complained about the food. I thought the food was great! The french restaurant was our favorite- we went back for our last night! The buffet had many options- various lettuce types and many toppings for salads too (favorite lunch spot) which is usually rare for all inclusives. The drinks were awesome- with top shelf alcohol (I drank Ketel One). The service was top knotch- they were very kind - always went above and beyond. The rooms were spacious- I stayed in an oceanview. Quiet at night- never heard a peep ... slept soundly everynight. There were many weddings going on but they never interupted what we were doing. We never had to wait for restaurants or make any reservations. My only complaint is the beach- it was filled with sea weed everyday. They also don't serve frozen drinks on the beach and don't give out straws. Everywhere else (like the pools) - no problem. We had no issues with the water temperature in the shower- stayed hot the whole time (with back to back showers). Water does go out to the bathroom area however they give you a mat to put down to avoid that- no issue. Our fridge was restocked everyday too! We took a taxi to downtown cancun and had a blast- the taxi's are very safe- I actually learned about Mexico! Great trip!
We took our boys to celebrate their graduations. The resort is new and the grounds are well maintained. The teen area was fine but there were no foam parties, bonfires or disco mixers the entire 5 nights we were there and our stay included the entire weekend and a few weeknights. Not at all like they advertise. The trip is a good 45-60 mins from the airport not 35 as stated on the website. It could never be under 45 mins with the amt of traffic. The beds were hard but the rooms were clean and the air conditioner worked well. The rooms have a bad smell in them most of the time, almost like a bad sewer smell. They had incense in the room that you could burn and that helped a bit. They have a lazy river but only preferred guests could use it. The restaurants were a huge disappointment. My kids expect great food and that is not what they had. Each restaurant had at least 3 fish options for the main menu and the main menu consisted of 5 or maybe 6 choices. If half are seafood and no one likes seafood (octopus, squid, etc) not even "normal" seafood then what is one supposed to eat? Our boys are 14 and 18 and don't want to order chicken fingers and french fries which were the choices on the kid's menus. The mexican option didn't even serve enchiladas or tacos or any type of mexican food we were familiar with. They had a cow's foot, steak that was tough and not good at all and 3 fish options including squid and octopus. Even the appetizers and salads were off the wall choices. I know it is an upscale resort but offer food that people will eat. Most nights we did try new items but left after a few bites because it was not good. We would end up at the buffet with boring choices or order room service which was just okay. Room service took forever and most of the time was not how or what was ordered. The buffet was fine but after the 3rd night was tiresome. The same food each night and most of it looked like it had been there all day. There was not an Italian restaurant and the to go diner where you get a wrap or salad was not made to order. You can't ask them to make anything special or exclude any sauce or condiments from the wraps/salads. What was on the shelf premade was what your choices were. We asked if they would make a wrap without ceasar dressing and they refused. They should not advertise as a place where food can be made to order as it is not. There is no food service at the pool so you must go to the Tides grill and if you are lucky to be waited on, order food like burgers that were mediocre at best, fries, onion rings, etc. The boys like the quesadillas best which were really tacos with fried breaded chicken in them. You were not allowed to take the e food back to the pool or even out of the restaurant. However, you could take the wraps/salads to the pool which I find odd. No food service at the pool was disliked by many. We heard many complaints from other families regarding the lack of pool service. You could eat at the Seafood grill and the buffet as well for lunch but were quite a walk from the pool. The ocean had no waves for the boys to boogie board so leave the boards at home. We were told you could boogie board so brought them specifically for that reason. We paid for a checked bag with the boards in it and it was a waste of $50. The ocean also had a lot of seaweed in it which made it hard to swim. The "waterpark" consisted of an enclosed slide and an open slide and were far away from the main pools. The kiddie area was nice if you have small children. They did have a band at the pool each day and had some water games like basketball and volleyball. There were a lot of adults who came over from the Secrets adults only resort and took over the swim up bar. They told us that the Secrets swim up bar was over crowded so they came to overcrowd our swim up bar. Not ideal for those who wanted to use the swim up bar at the resort we paid for. Benito was a great pool waiter. He was very attentive and was always checking on us. The last 2 days he was working at a different pool and we had to get our own drinks. There were waiters at the pool but they were messing around among themselves and basically ignoring the guests. I should have taken a video of them with my phone and showed it to a manager. Benito was truly missed the last 2 days of our stay. Ana the concierge was very helpful and attentive. She answered all of our questions and gave us great suggestions. She always had a smile on her face. The resort does try to get you to sit thru a presentation to become a vacation owner but once we told them no they did not bother us about it again. The night entertainment was mediocre at best. Usually a band that played the same songs night after night. A different band but all of the bands played the same songs. The disco was for adults 18 yrs of age and older. The DJ played the music he wanted to play not what anyone else requested which was probably why it was deserted most nights. Parts of the disco were dirty and looked like it was still under construction. There was a magic show one night in the theatre but geared toward smaller children. My 14 and 18 year old boys thought it was boring and childish. The resort credit that we had was worthless. Messages at the spa were $180 and you could only use a $40 coupon per massage. I don't pay $140 for a message in the US so I would not pay that much for one in Mexico. You could not use the resort credit on manicures or pedicures only massages. They had so many "rules" on the resort credit it was not worth using it. We were constantly told "no, you cannot use resort credit for that" Overall I would not recommend this resort because of the food, beach and lack of activities for teenagers. We paid a lot of money for this vacation and I must say it was a disappointment.
I was pleasantly surprised after reading all the negative reviews. I will say that for the price difference in the Swim-out Room and other rooms I wouldn't do it again. The room we were in had a lovely view of the ocean but the pool was only in the sun first thing in the morning. It had a swim ladder going into it with about 3 steps. The pool is deep so don't plan for small children to be able to play in it without an adult. The water was always very cold so we did not use the pool at all. The wait staff at all the restaurants were very pleasant and worked hard to make sure you had what you wanted. The pool service was good and Martha was amazing. There were plenty of lounge chairs but you do need to reserve your cabana early in order to get one. There was only one time that a restaurant was closed without notice. We had plenty of other options so we just went to another one. The children's area was amazing for our little 6 year old grandson. Room Service was good and it only took about an hour to get our food - so order early if you are on a time line. Cons - If you have problems with mobility this might not be the place for you. It is spread out and there was not direct routes to most of the things. It is very up and down and the elevators are sparse. One night the elevator was out in our building and my husband could not get down from the 3rd floor to have dinner with the family. He had to order in the room. The buffet did not have much variety. The menu didn't change from day to day. The Preferred club snack bar never changed. It had the same things every day. It would have been nice to have a little variety from day to day. The beach is nasty. Too much sea weed and couldn't get in the water. Communication about what is going on around the resort was awful. We had a tablet in our room that was supposed to tell the daily activities. It was only updated 1 time (after I called) and the 2 days that showed up were past. It was never updated again. We can't tell you about night time entertainment as we only saw one thing due to not knowing what was going on. We just happened to go by the only one we saw. We would go to this resort again if there was no one in our group that had mobility problems. That aspect of this resort can not be changed.
Went for 6 days last week and the resort was amazing. Everything is basically brand new. Only complaint I have is that the resort is far from everything in Cancun. If you're planning on staying in on the resort then this place works well but if you plan to explore the city you might want to look at something a little closer. The pools were amazing and everything was clean. Room service forgot about me one day but it's ok, besides that they were very prompt and the food was good. I'm 33 from Miami. This place is great for all ages
The resort was aesthetically beautiful. However the service was terrible. We had to wait about an hour and a half for to eat at the restaurants. Once seated it took over almost an hour to get our food. Room service took at least an hour to get, even at times that were not peak hours. The food options and quality were sub par. We didn't feel that we received what we payed for. Overall we were truly disappointed with the trip and we will not be back.
All the reviews I read made this place seem like it was going to be a dream come true. I was not impress with he food at all. From the time I arrive to check in i was already being up sold on packages that where not even worth the value like the preferred club. In addition the only good restaurant which was fusion was close 2 of the three day I was there. Have to say best Hibachi Chef ever a must see, I found that if I tip all my waiters I got better severs. I pretty much tip ever waiters or waitress $20.00us. Also it felt like a pretty brand new resort and they are still figuring out out to run the place. So I spend 2 of my 6 day there over on Isla mujeres witch I found to be the best part of the whole vacation.
Dreams is the perfect name for this particular resort as it is not a reality yet. I booked preferred club, yet nothing on this trip was preferred treatment. Upon arrival, we were brought to the main lobby (not the preferred club check-in area. This was very disappointing as my daughter was very hungry and we had no snacks or drinks while waiting 45 minutes for our turn at a check-in counter. I told multiple workers that this was not the norm for preferred club at other Dreams resorts, yet I got no explanation from anyone and I was told that I will be taken care of soon. Once at the counter, I asked if they could show me on a map the "preferred" ocean front room where we will be staying. He marked this on a map and then we followed the bellhop to our room. We were taken to a different building that was not as marked, and then the bellhop told us that he did not believe we were recognized as preferred club members. I returned to the front desk to question why he would mark the ocean front building and then have us stay elsewhere. He was very defensive and refused to answer why. (This is very poor service and I suddenly felt like I was at a 1 star resort) Finally the manager apologized for there mix-up of not having us identified as preferred club. Although, we were forced to pay an additional 500 to upgrade our room to the room we had already booked. (They still didn't move us until the following night) We were ready to leave at this point but did not want to waist more vacation time. Some cons: One evening we asked for room service, but were told this was not an option yet. They have no nice dining options that don't include formal. We complained more about this and suddenly room service was available. They decided to deliver out preferred club bottle of Champaign at 11:00pm on our 4th night there. Yup, woke up the kids and thanks for deleting that alone time. Room service knocked on our door many late nights asking to fill the drink bar. This should schedule this way before 10:00pm. A couple days we had no beds made or towels delivered or tissue paper when returning to our room at the end of the day. No tablets in the room as we were told. The lazy river was not open during the first half of the week. (Although we really enjoyed it once it opened) One of the two water slides was not open at all. The beach is not typical of a Dreams Resort. Lots of seaweed and no clear water. The preferred club beach beds were all taken by early morning and the beach staff told me that they do not enforce that these are for preferred club only. The spa was not open and my daughter was not older enough to enter the neighboring Secrets Resort Spa. The pros: This resort is beautiful. The pools are amazing. The grounds are kept very clean. The pool staff and bartenders were always friendly and entertaining. The last Dreams resort I've vacationed at was amazing and I gave a excellent rating in all categories. I feel this resort should not have promised that all "new construction" issues were resolved prior to my arrival, as they were not. My main regret is that I paid for preferred club (twice!). I received none of the benefits as expected. I expect with more time they will have all issues resolved.
This place is a definite 5 star resort. It was clean, the staff was attentive and the food and drink options were abundant. The only challenges they need to work on would be common for a resort only open 2 weeks, but be aware. The entertainment was sparse and lackluster. With the exception of the fire show, they need to work on getting more interesting shows. Regarding the restaurants- food is pretty good but there is a lot of inconsistency on the dress code. Plan on wearing pants instead of nice shorts no matter what if you are a male! This is our 5th time at a Dreams resort and we don't go anywhere else. Overall the value and amenities are spot on. This resort is bigger and better than any other one we saw and rivals a top resort- well done!
This resort was top notch. They opened December 1st and some things were not yet in place. (ice machines not on each floor yet) but nothing that caused a problem with our stay. Our room was exactly as pictured on the website. Each room has an outdoor sofa and a jacuzzii tub on the balcony. We were placed on the 5th (top) floor facing the pool and ocean. It was an amazing view. The beach was good, however, due to the time of year, the water in the ocean was too rough to get into, and cold. The restaurants were all good. I did not have one thing that was not delicious. You also have the option of walking next door to the Secrets resort, where they have 13 additional restaurants to choose from. The premium liquors made the drinks top notch. Our wait staff, housekeeping, concierge and all their employees were exceptional. The service was impeccable. The nightly entertainment at Dreams was also great. We had singers, bands, and dancers. Aztec traditional show, along with a fire show with their dancers. You could hop over to the Secrets resort for more nightly entertainment each evening. They had a disco and a big screen on the rooftop, where we watched football games and were close to the bars constantly. Overall, this is a great location for families. If you wish to stay at a resort without children, stay at Secrets next door. The one thing I did not like is they do not seem to enforce the adult only pool and children are splashing all around you. This is a problem at all their locations, so stay at the Adult only resorts if it is something you are opposed to. Great stay for the $. Would definitely return again.
