Great Place

This resort was top notch. They opened December 1st and some things were not yet in place. (ice machines not on each floor yet) but nothing that caused a problem with our stay. Our room was exactly as pictured on the website. Each room has an outdoor sofa and a jacuzzii tub on the balcony. We were placed on the 5th (top) floor facing the pool and ocean. It was an amazing view. The beach was good, however, due to the time of year, the water in the ocean was too rough to get into, and cold. The restaurants were all good. I did not have one thing that was not delicious. You also have the option of walking next door to the Secrets resort, where they have 13 additional restaurants to choose from. The premium liquors made the drinks top notch. Our wait staff, housekeeping, concierge and all their employees were exceptional. The service was impeccable. The nightly entertainment at Dreams was also great. We had singers, bands, and dancers. Aztec traditional show, along with a fire show with their dancers. You could hop over to the Secrets resort for more nightly entertainment each evening. They had a disco and a big screen on the rooftop, where we watched football games and were close to the bars constantly. Overall, this is a great location for families. If you wish to stay at a resort without children, stay at Secrets next door. The one thing I did not like is they do not seem to enforce the adult only pool and children are splashing all around you. This is a problem at all their locations, so stay at the Adult only resorts if it is something you are opposed to. Great stay for the $. Would definitely return again.

What to expect

Dreams is the perfect name for this particular resort as it is not a reality yet. I booked preferred club, yet nothing on this trip was preferred treatment. Upon arrival, we were brought to the main lobby (not the preferred club check-in area. This was very disappointing as my daughter was very hungry and we had no snacks or drinks while waiting 45 minutes for our turn at a check-in counter. I told multiple workers that this was not the norm for preferred club at other Dreams resorts, yet I got no explanation from anyone and I was told that I will be taken care of soon. Once at the counter, I asked if they could show me on a map the "preferred" ocean front room where we will be staying. He marked this on a map and then we followed the bellhop to our room. We were taken to a different building that was not as marked, and then the bellhop told us that he did not believe we were recognized as preferred club members. I returned to the front desk to question why he would mark the ocean front building and then have us stay elsewhere. He was very defensive and refused to answer why. (This is very poor service and I suddenly felt like I was at a 1 star resort) Finally the manager apologized for there mix-up of not having us identified as preferred club. Although, we were forced to pay an additional 500 to upgrade our room to the room we had already booked. (They still didn't move us until the following night) We were ready to leave at this point but did not want to waist more vacation time. Some cons: One evening we asked for room service, but were told this was not an option yet. They have no nice dining options that don't include formal. We complained more about this and suddenly room service was available. They decided to deliver out preferred club bottle of Champaign at 11:00pm on our 4th night there. Yup, woke up the kids and thanks for deleting that alone time. Room service knocked on our door many late nights asking to fill the drink bar. This should schedule this way before 10:00pm. A couple days we had no beds made or towels delivered or tissue paper when returning to our room at the end of the day. No tablets in the room as we were told. The lazy river was not open during the first half of the week. (Although we really enjoyed it once it opened) One of the two water slides was not open at all. The beach is not typical of a Dreams Resort. Lots of seaweed and no clear water. The preferred club beach beds were all taken by early morning and the beach staff told me that they do not enforce that these are for preferred club only. The spa was not open and my daughter was not older enough to enter the neighboring Secrets Resort Spa. The pros: This resort is beautiful. The pools are amazing. The grounds are kept very clean. The pool staff and bartenders were always friendly and entertaining. The last Dreams resort I've vacationed at was amazing and I gave a excellent rating in all categories. I feel this resort should not have promised that all "new construction" issues were resolved prior to my arrival, as they were not. My main regret is that I paid for preferred club (twice!). I received none of the benefits as expected. I expect with more time they will have all issues resolved.

Too new to tell

The resort is absolutely gorgeous. Dining options were great and all quality meals. Plenty of pool area however the hotel was only 50% open. I was disappointed the lazy river, disco, dolphin area, spa and other pool were not complete. They also did not enforce the adults only rule in infinity pool. We went the 2nd week it opened so their operations were not organized. Most workers were still learning about things as they went. Took us 4 hours to check in..thank goodness food was available. Entertainment was lacking too. You can walk to Secrets to check out their club but would have been nice to have it on your own resort. The room was beautiful however the bed was extremely firm and sheets were about as soft as paper. On the last night they seemed to finally give us the daily schedule for the next day however half the activities listed never seemed to happen. In a nutshell i would say this resort has great potential but they really need to get operations down.

Amazing resort

This place is a definite 5 star resort. It was clean, the staff was attentive and the food and drink options were abundant. The only challenges they need to work on would be common for a resort only open 2 weeks, but be aware. The entertainment was sparse and lackluster. With the exception of the fire show, they need to work on getting more interesting shows. Regarding the restaurants- food is pretty good but there is a lot of inconsistency on the dress code. Plan on wearing pants instead of nice shorts no matter what if you are a male! This is our 5th time at a Dreams resort and we don't go anywhere else. Overall the value and amenities are spot on. This resort is bigger and better than any other one we saw and rivals a top resort- well done!

I would never stay here again!

I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anybody! My family & I especially other family members that traveled with us weren't allowed to their restaurants because the men had to wear pants at a resort were its humid & hot. We had to eat in our rooms or leave the resort to go eat. Our beds were horrible. We couldn't eat by the pool! It was bad. It was a waist of money $$ (all inclusive) & never again I would stay at this hotel!!!!

Not quite finished still.

This WILL be a very nice resort when it is complete. As of 12/16 it is not quite there. Restaurants, Pools, and Entertainment were very good. Our room's AC and telephone did not work most of the time. The TV system received a major interface upgrade while there which allows you to watch Netflix. And things like shelving units appeared from time to time in the room. It looked like two building and the condo units where not finished as well. Keep in mind if you want to do excursions in the south, it is a longer drive and you have to go thru the city which can be even more timely. The beach is ok. Lots of Cabanas and competition for them in the AM. Not rocky but they ought to do more to alleviate the seaweed which washes ashore. Major work to a pier off the beach (or the rumor was a dolphinarium) was underway while we were guests too.
