Dreams Dominicus

To put it in the most basic of terms, Dreams Dominicus is nowhere even close to any of the other AM Resorts that we have stayed at. There is something really off at this resort that appears to start at the ownership level which we have been told is different than other AM Resorts. As a business owner myself, I can see that they are doing everything possible to squeeze as much revenue out of the least investment possible at this resort. From staffing to resort layout and finish quality it is several levels below the other resorts. To say the least, we were incredibly disappointed and upset ourselves for choosing this resort verses others. During our stay as we spoke others at the resort the general conciseness was the same...the weather was beautiful but the resort just fell short in almost all categories. We are normally very easy to please and usually content with resorts that we visit but this one is just not good. We did not speak with anyone down there that would ever consider returning. I believe Dreams has problem on their hands with this place. I you are considering going to the La Romana area (which is beautiful) book your stay at the Dreams La Romana, do NOT stay at the Dreams Dominicus they are even close to the same. You will regret the Dreams Dominicus.

I have to say I was sceptic going to this resort after reading some of the reviews however I was very impressed. Yes it is a new resort so there are some kinks to work out but if you have a problem the staff is there to help right away. The food was amazing! Every restaurant and buffet was great. My only recommendation is if you have a family get to the restraints right at 6:30 when they open for fastest service. Drinks were great. One thing to remember is everyone is on what I call island time. It does take a little longer to receive drinks and service then what we are used to but I think it's just the culture. Overall it was great relaxing trip we had a great time and can't wait to visit another dreams resort.

DISAPPOINTED

This is a new resort so the facilities were nice; however, we've vacationed at other Dreams Resorts and this resort does not compare at all to or live up to our expectations based on our previous experiences at other Dreams resorts. We were extremely disappointed! We heard of problems with guests' rooms such as no hot water, no A/C, and electrical issues. Three of the restaurants had decent food, but the Seaside Grill was absolutely horrible. We only ate there once. We have vacationed all oved the Caribbean, Mexico and Bermuda and I have always been able to order Barcardi Rum, but not here! Other Dreams resorts in the DR all have Barcardi Rum. They advertise premiums wine and liquors - NOT HERE. Your choice on Wines is White or Red - that's it. While all the AMStar personnel at the resort and personnel in the main reception area are all bi-lingual, the people who provide services throughout the resort have little or no command of English so ordering or asking for help is difficult at best. We can highly recommend Dreams Punta Cana Resort, but don't waste your time and money here. Maybe in a year or two with better management this resort could come up to Dreams' Resorts reputation, but not now.

Not ready

Pros Staff nice and friendly Multiple dining options Quiet area - if you're trying to get away from everything Locals not aggressive or bothersome Fridge stocked daily. Bottled water supplied Gym is nice Night time shows - superb in variety and quality English speaking staff was accessible Cons Too new- much work left to be done Room Phone never worked 5 days 4 nights Fridge didn't work first 2 days. Then cooled a little Had to walk to front desk for any assistance or room service Paid for preferred $0 value for my money Totally regret going to this facility Beach steep decline not much walking space Family resort but no babies allowed in French restaurant Preferred lounge has no fans - hot and miserable Minor flooding with little rain Curfew for pools 6pm Non smoking faculty but people were smoking everywhere If you really really really want to go here WAIT 2-3 years. Seriously!

Place is a joke

Not premium liquor saw staff pouring zero vodka into absolute bottles twice. Plenty of staff just didn't do anything very lazy and slow. Food was horrible. Only ok meal was the japenese. Smell of sewer near building 59 at night time watering the grass.

People were awesome / Facility - not so much

I would have probably given all 5 stars for everything if I paid half or even 60% of what I did. Brand new facility - too much not yet completed. Paid for "preferred" got "punked". For example, Room Phone did not work the entire 5 day 4 night stay. We had to walk over (far) to the lobby from our seaside room to order room service etc. Otherwise... Beds were cozy and clean. Pillows soft resort standard. Toiletries sufficient. Cheap Caribbean rep at airport was awesome, spoke enough English. He then coordinated with Spanish speaking driver who was an older pleasant gentleman who we were able to Spanglish with on our drive to dreams Dominicus. Staff at facility greeted us warmly with cold hand towels lol. Really no issue with the resorts staff one bit, they were perfect! However, the cheap Caribbean rep in the lobby (not the amstar rep) was rude, overly dramatic, argumentative... He seemed spiteful and untrustworthy. We decided not to book any excursions with him. And dreaded him sabotaging our airport rides. We realized a day later than ideal that there were multiple amstar reps around that could assist with tours. The event coordinator / restaurant manager / whatever the title of the person that did the decor for our main dinner did a phenomenal job! The nightly shows were on par with cirque de sole, Disney, universal etc. We did the 3 hour 'timeshare' lunch talk for the $100 leisure cash and used it toward our city tour with runners adventures. There were 38 total in our tour group. Other tourists were staying in Punta Cana. It was well organized. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Except when we got wet in our buggy ride from the drop off point. The driver from the hotel to the airport was pleasant on time professional. Beach is a steep decline into the water not much walking room. Few locals selling their wares. They were more of a welcomed distraction than a bother. Nice little gym. Didn't try the spa. Others did and liked it. Overall great potential as a family friendly resort. Still lots of work to be done. But - the French restaurant doesn't allow babies... Few staff members, usually supervisors speak English. The rest try, and are very pleasant and helpful in finding a good translator. Main let downs - facility & cheap Carribbean rep in lobby. I did not get the value for my money. I'm not a drinker, not a glutton (tried and failed miserably) so I couldn't eat and drink my money's worth.

Dreams Dominicus, La Romana

The resort is beautiful. There is construction going on directly across the street, expanding the resort, but I really didn't hear any noise, or was bothered by it. Airport transfers by Amstar was great and highly recommended! Upon arrival at the resort we were greeted and promptly pitched an opportunity to view a 'presentation' at a sister resort for spa gift certificates, etc. We obliged and it was a sales pitch to become a Preferred member, similar to time share presentations. We went on a rainy day, we got breakfast, pocketed our spa certificates and declined. I didn't really appreciate this,as I was not expecting it, but the free massage was great. The staff, all we encountered, were exceptionally friendly. The resort is well maintained, and seems to have upgraded recently - walk in shower, etc. The many pools are well maintained and lounges aplenty. Staff does put towels out in the morning so don't feel like a chair is unavailable unless there are personal affects accompanied by towel. Lounges at the beach are also available, some with umbrellas, and if you need something moved the staff is quick to help. Bar staff was attentive so you didn't have to leave the beach to get a drink. the Entertainment staff is excellent. There are always things going on. Definitely check out the daily activity schedule if you're looking for things to do. The service in the restaurants was eh. Buffet breakfast was typical, nothing special. We wanted soda and juice rather than coffee in the morning and initially service was great, but as the week waned so did the service. Danny, however was always hopping and very pleasant and eager to please. There were days when we requested beverages and they never arrived during out meal. The Asian (hibachi) restaurant was the best in my opinion. We opted for the hibachi experience. The food was as expected, the entertainment great, but the seats were so low you couldn't see the check cooking. Food was plentiful. The Italian restaurant had impeccable service, but the food was mediocre. The Grill was just ok. Nothing to write home about. Lackluster service and portions so small they should have been appetizers. We tried to get to the French restaurant one evening and the hostess was awful, rude and nasty. Initially we were told 30 minute wait. So we did. After 55 minutes I approached her and she ignored me for 5 minutes while conversing in a foreign language with another worker. Then when I asked her how much longer she told me there were 4 people in front of me, all of whom showed up after me! One of those people was as taken aback as I was and decided they were not going to go in before us since we had been waiting longer. We both left, and they lost 9 patrons that day. She was downright rude when addressing us and I cannot recommend that place because she was back the next evening, even after I complained to management. Overall it was a beautiful location (resort, not so much outside the confines of the walls) and a much needed vacation. Would I go back there, probably not.

good bad ugly

Room was very spacious and comfortable.Unfortunately we had no hot water for entire stay.Also after my wife took her shower i would have to wait 30 minuets for the water to drain otherwise it would have over flowed.I figured it out that it would be faster to get a waste bucket and bayle out the water.Numerous cllas to get fixed. no results..Fridge in the room did not work was hot!! Grounds were impeccable..need some umbrellas at beach though! Lack of top liquor.i had one glass of grey goose first day and cheap stuff entire week.no good beer onlt presidente.ugh!! food at restraunts was quite good although they kept getting reservations mix up.. Xmas show was really good and santa giving out prseents was cooll would not recomend staying there yet!

DREAMS EXPERIENCE

MY WIFE AND I HAVE BEEN TO D.R. AROUND 8 TIMES AND THIS WAS THE BEST EXPERIENCE. THE RESORT IS FANTASTIC, THE STAFF THROUGHOUT THE RESORT INCLUDING OUTSIDE CONTRACTORS WERE SUPER FRIENDLY, WE WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK.

First time in La Romana and at Dreams resorts

The overall service from the staff was great,except housekeeping. Beach is very small with large boulders in water and no on duty life guard. Unfortantly because the resort just opened mid november the resort is not up to par and is lacking in much needed staff members. Although there are many supervisors watching the few that are working this carries over into rooms being cleaned very late into the night and in my case not being cleaned for two nights in a row. I decided to purchase a upgrade to the club premium suite because I was celebrating a birthday and they promised to throw in a complimtary cake in one of the restaurants on the day of my choice. My butler promised ballons and a special turn down service all because I upgraded, boy did I feel like a fool because it never happened on the day I chose and they charged me for the cake that was supposed to be free. Not to mention with the club premium we were supposed to get a upgraded mini bar, daily turn down service, and our butler was suppsed to check in with us daily. On day three those services stopped and when I called concierged they promised it would be done and nothing happened so I got tired of getting the run around and just stop complaining. Also the club premium rooms are barely 2mo old and they look like a three star hotel room, towel racks coming loose, water damage in the bathroom, I even had a cricket in my room for two days. Let's just say not worth the money until the resort is completly finish which is not to be expected until april 2017.
