Nice hotel/ resort. Expensive overall. Limited options for eating option for breakfast lunch and dinner. Breakfast is either room service, which is expensive and has a $5 room charge tagged on, or the $26pp buffet. Lunch options are one of three bar/ resturants that open at noon or room service. The only other option is a Subway within walking distance. Dinner is either one of the bars which are mediocure, a terrible italian resturant or Mortons which was excellent but pricey. If you are into sitting on a private beach or lounging in the pool drinking expensive drinks this is the place. Awesome views with a constant breeze, your hotel is on the water. Though my wife and I enjoyed our stay, we realized that we aren't lay on the beach kind of people. We had more fun seeing old san juan and eating local foods.
The hotel and beach are beautiful. Charming little fish ponds adorn the premises. The locatiion was central to the annual festival and only a bus ride away from the city of Old San Juan, Wonderful vacation!!!
My wife and I went to the Caribe Hilton last August (2009). While it was a very large resort with a private beach, it lacked personal touches. The beach was nice, however, the water was like a salt water pool. It was also very business oriented and there was a lot of business activity going on while we were there. Everyday had a different meeting/expo going on which made it a little uncomfortable for my wife to be wallking around in a bikini while men in suits are staring at her. If I had it to do again I would have stayed closer to San Juan as it seemed to have more options for food, fun, and nightlife. The Caribe Hilton was not a bad hotel, however, I would not go there again.
We had a great vacation! When we got to the hotel they upgraded our room to the VIP and gave us an oceanview when we didn't purchase it. They also gave us access to their business lounge and free continental breaksfasts, internet access, waters, snacks, etc. The Hilton Caribe was very clean and they gave great service. Everyone was friendly. The only bad thing is food was expensive. We didn't have a budget to eat at expensive restaurants everynight so alot of our meals came from Starbucks (have great sandwiches). They do have a subway across the street too. I loved our vacation and can't wait to go back!!!
We stayed at the Hilton San Juan because of the location near the old town. There is a bus that runs right from the hotel to downtown. Near the Hotel there is nothing to speak of, just other older hotels. The Diving is terrible near the Hilton, and a one tank shore dive will run you $75 per person. The hotel is older, needs some maintenece, but the friendly staff more than made up for what the structure was lacking.
What a GREAT DEAL! A great hotel at the center of the city. Lots of music and action and things to do. I love Starbucks Coffee and there was one in the Lobby, how great was that for us! We were so close to downtown San Juan and had access to major highways, it was PERFECT! To our surprise, we received drink coupons for each and everyone of the days we stayed at this hotel. WHAT AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE!
Hotel was very nice, helpful staff members, good location
Wouldn't recommend this place for someone who wants to chill out. It was too busy for my liking.
Arriving at the Caribe Hilton, we were a little scared because the area around it had some construction going on and didn't look like the cleanest, pedestrian friendly spot. Within walking distance is the pretty clean pedestrian friendly Condado, with shops, casinos and restaurants galore. The Caribe Hilton is located between Old San Juan and El Condado, making it kind of an awkward location. We ended up driving more than we planned. However, the resort itself is beautiful. Walking into the open air lobby with parrots and fruited water, we couldn't help but relax instantly. Our rooms were basic sized for two full sized beds with a small bathroom. Everything was clean and functional. We had a nice little patio off of room that overlooked the Carri bean however also overlooked the roof the hotel restaurant, so all afternoon and evening we had the noise from the restaurant exhaust. Not exactly the sound of lapping ocean waves. We were on the 7th floor or so, but still the sounds from below were too noisy to sit out and relax. I'd recommend asking for a room that is not above the restaurant. The beach/pool area was a dream. Various chairs and lounges scattered everywhere, in whatever setting you desire. A couple different pools of interesting design, surrounded by lush foliage. A palm tree laden beach complete with hammocks and yoga class. An "island" of lounges and cabanas-for-rent pretty much made us feel luxurious while knowing we were paying economy prices. The restaurant was expensive, so we never ate there. There is a Starbucks in the lobby which seemed to be a popular breakfast spot. Subway around the corner for lunch. But I highly recommend the little hole in the wall local owned store across the street from the hotel. Not sure what it is called but you can't miss it when you walk out of the lobby. They had delicious local breakfast and lunches for very inexpensive. I only wish we had discovered it sooner in our trip. All in all, I would recommend the hotel if you intend to drive on excursions or just want to lay by the pool/on the beach.
This resort was fantastic. The staff was helpful and friendly and the setting was perfect. The pools were amazing and beach was quiet and calming. Yoga and pilates on the beach in the morning was a unique benefit that I enjoyed. I would highly recommend this place to anyone and have to several people. This resort made our vacation wonderful! The price that we got through cheapcarribean was far better than others staying at the resort and we felt like we got a stellar deal.
