Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda

My first caution is that the beach is very rocky and is pretty shallow in terms of length of sand from resort to the water. It's not great for ocean swimming, so we spent most of our time lying by the pool. For me this was a downside because I love the ocean access. However, the pool is ok; it is just as it is pictured on the website. That said, the pool s probably the most spectacular appeal. The food is plentiful, but just ok. The rooms are just ok. The place is somewhat secluded in the sense that you definitely need transportation to get to the exciting places around town. The upshot is that it's not too much of an effort to get to town, but you will need to get out of the resort if you desire excitement. The good news is that it was a good deal for the money if you are on a budget. You get what you pay for, and that's not always bad! Neither was this resort.

Rooms beautiful bad beach

My girlfriend and I stayed there for a long weekend and we both loved the rooms and the choices of dining options. The building we stayed in looked brand new. The bathrooms and showers were very large. The staff at this place was very helpful with people in the lobby of each building to help with dinner reservations. There we many dining options and the food there was better than most resorts. I was very disappointed in the water at the beach. It was very murkey and grey in color and no waves at all. It was like we were in a lagoon. The pools, however make up for the beach. I personally would not go to that resort again but would definitely try another Blue Bay resort in another area.

Great Beach, Nice accomodations but very noisy

excessive noise in the hallways in the early am hrs. made for a unpleasant experience.A better constructed door and rubber wheels on the house keeping carts would in my opinion would greatly make for a better experience.

A Wonderful Anniversary Getaway!

My husband and I went to Blue Bay Esmeralda to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. Everything at Blue Bay was perfect! Our room was clean and comfortable, with an extremely comfortable bed. The restaurants were all good, and it wasn't hard to get a reservation. At night, the hotel's shows were very entertaining. In addition, everyone went out of their way to make sure all of our needs were met. I would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends and family.

Can't wait to go back

I went to this resort for our honeymoon and absoluely love it! our room was fantastic and the staff was great. we accidently got locked out of our room at 1:30am and we were helped right away. it was such a great escape from reality, all inclusive and always something to do. Even when we didn't feel like doing anything it was a great place to relax

Things to Know Before you Go...

We went during the off season when it wasn't crowded and had a great time. Here are a few things that are worth knowing though- -Make reservations for the restaurants as soon as you arrive. The buffets are good during breakfast, ok for lunch, but if you want to have a nice dinner, the restaurants are the only way to go. The Mexican restaurant, (I can't remember the name) is the best one- the others leave much to be desired in terms of tasting like mass produced discount resort fare. -Between 5 and 6 pm all of the resort pathways are fogged down with mosquito repellent. When I say fog, that's not an understatement. Plan your walks to dinner and other areas of the resort accordingly. -The only thing that would have made the room better was if there were screen windows instead of all glass. It left the room with a little bit of that new construction mildewy smell. All that being said, the resort is beautiful, the pools are lovely, the drinks are plentiful and its a FANTASTIC place to just show up and relax. Enjoy!

A very decent vacation

We stayed 8 nights in June. The hotel and grounds are enormous and beautiful. The food on the buffets is very good. Only two buffet restaurants were open while we were there - the main International Buffet and the one by the main pool, Jai. Jai is not air conditioned and it can be HOT in there. The International Buffet is air conditioned, but the resort sometimes elects NOT to turn the air on. It can be quite warm in there and this is a consideration. The a la carte restaurants are generally quite good, but it is very difficult to get a reservation. You need to see the concierge by 9 am if you want your choice of restaurants. Only two were open per night. If you miss your reservation time by 15 minutes, they will turn you away regardless of whether there are available tables or not. Also, although they say they take walk ins, they will not. On two occasions, we came to a restaurant with about 30% of the tables seated and were denied a table. The rooms are very clean and very nice and our air conditioner worked well. Hallways are all outdoors. Hotel staff, particularly in the restaurants, were extremely friendly and helpful.

We Love the Blue Bay

We have been to the Blue Bay Grand Esmarelda for 3 years in a row now. We love the pool, the food and the people. We go to rest and relax and this is the perfect place. There are plenty of tours that you can take but we just like hanging out on the property. It is an all inclusive so non motorized water sprots are included. We would take one of the sailboats out every day and it was great. They might want to consider refurbishing the sail boats some. They have a lot of wear on them but they still work and it is still a lot of fun. We may go again next year.

Blubay

Was a nice vacation. Food was better than we thought it would be. Beach was nice and the room was clean. We upgraded to an ocean view and that was well worth the extra cost. Big resort so bring you walking shoes. Internet should be available in all the rooms free of charge but is not. Long way to get to hot spots for free service.
