Best Vacation Ever

My vacation to the Dominican Republic was an amazing trip, thanks to Cheap Caribbean.com, at Barcelo Resorts in Puerto Plata. The hotel was very accomodating, and the staff was wonderful during my stay. I want to reccomend this site to everyone, who is traveling. I loved my experience with the customer service agents, and they were very helpful providing me information. Again, I loved this hotel, and I even booked another trip while I was away to Viva Wyndham Dominicus Palace in La Romana. During my stay I made some friends, and I definitely want to return again. The food, drinks, pool, night life, entertainment, were great, can not complain about my all inclusive vacation package.....

Best Vacation Ever!

We stayed at Barcelo for 4 nights and 5 days. It rained 3 of the days there but yet we still had a fabulous time! There is 24 hour entertainment on site and they make it virtually impossible to get bored. The nightlife was also awesome, Cheap Carribbean did an amazing job finding a resort for my boyfriend & I that had great night life. I reccommend that people select what's most important to them in the prompts when searching for a resort, because it actually is what you ask for. Lastly but definitely not least, this vacation was so affordable! On top of the fact that we were in Premium Club which meant we had a private check-in, access to premium liqour, a larger room, private restaurant, etc we paid HUNDREDS less than the regular guests at the resort! When I say they get you bank for your buck I mean it! Please go to Barcelo Puerto Plata or anywhere else with Cheap Carribbean you won't be dissappointed:-).!

over-rated

this was suppose to be a 4 star hotel and we were very disappointed with this hotel. The TV was very old and didn't work right, the remote was broke. The food was terrible. Not a great selection of food, it was the same all the time. The pool was ice ice water and the beach was filthy. The view from our room patio was a concrete wall. We would never return to this hotel, we have been in the Puerto Plata several times before and always had very good conditions this hotel was our worst.

Reasonable Resort

Overall, my girlfriend and I had a good trip. The resort staff was very nice and we had no issues with service. The rooms were a mixed picture. They were clean. The air conditioning worked well, but the the TV was ancient. The worst aspect of the room was the bed, which was horrible. It was so bad we had difficulty sleeping, which of course affected the whole trip. The pools and the beach were nice with close proximities to the bars. The food was plentiful, but you had to make reservations early to get to go to any of the speciality restaurants (which severely limited the ability to go as the reserved spots went quickly).

Dominician Vacation

This was our first time there and the resort was great! The rooms were large and comfortable. The staff was great, and the food was also. Everything was kept clean, and well maintained. We are looking to return next year. There was entertainment nightly, but if you did't speak spanish, you didn't understand what was going on, but just the music along and the dancing was good. We booked a tour with the company and that was affordable and lots of fun!

Nice place but there is better

Room was big and clean and we upgraded to premium service and was disipointed... They said premium imported booze but they didn't have it imported from the states.. They had american booze but it was extra.. The resort doesn't have enough chairs by the one big pool or down by the ocean so if you don't get up and out by 7:00am you won't find a chair. People who work their are great but the resort was missing something.. Buffet was the best food out of all the resuraunts..

NOT GOOD

My fiance and I(we are 28) were just looking for a cheap vacation. Nothing fancy. We saw the reviews but we figured that we're def not picky people...just needed a relaxing getaway. We went for 6 days but by the 4th day we were ready to leave. First of all, the food is bad...not horrible but really not very good. The ala cartes were VERY bad. The mexican was the only one we liked (we wet there twice.) We would have dinner at the ala cartes, i barely ate and then we would have to go get pizza right after! The buffet is the only place for breakfast so, that gets old fast. If you're a meat eater...beware of the "dominican meat"(as we called it..Its pretty much hotdogs cut into different shapes.) If you're looking for great food on vacation don't bother with barcelo. I survived on pizza and boiled potatoes. The best part of the resort are the employees. They are overly friendly and will do anything for you. I really enjoyed all the bell hops and bartenders. MAKE SURE you bring lots and lots of singles and fives. Everyone expects tips. We had to tip at least 10 bucks to all diff people before we even got to our room. We spent at least 150 tipping in 6 days. The rooms aren't bad. We didn't upgrade to the premium section either. We didn't check it out either but the food cant be much better....we saw them bringing food from the buffet to the premium section! Watch out for the water bottles in the mini fridge... we had a few that weren't sealed. The housekeepers love travel size toiletries, small kid toys... etc... i went to the dollarstore before i left and spent 12 bucks,,,every day i left 2 or 3 things plus a buck.... they were very happy. As the other reviews said.. if you want a chair at pool or beach you need to be up early. We were up by 8-830 and there were plenty left. If you want shade at the pool..good luck...alll those were taken by 7am. Don't save your chairs w/the towels. There is a 35 replacement fee. We used cheapo flip flops to secure our chairs. ALSO bring 45spf. we brought 30 and got sunburned bad. I had recently been to Florida and still got as burn! ALSO be aware of the fact that they let loud obnoxious locals in on weekends. It got very crowded. The beach was much quieter however be prepared for hounding of salesmen! I just kept saying no thanks and they left me alone though. Photographers at the hotel tell you they will charge you 10 bucks a picture but there is a 10pic minimum...believe me they hound you worse than the beach people! Don't forget shoes for the guys and long pants...you can't eat at most of the ala cartes w o them. Also the discotec wont let you in. We took one tour thru olympus tours (booked at barcelo.) It was the shopping tour and if you're looking for shopping dont bother with this tour!! It was an old knick knack shop. The historical sites and rail car were fun tho. So it you're into that.. then it's worth the 50bucks. The country is very run down and dirty tho. I felt terrible when i got back from the tour. I def advise you to book the hotel shuttle thru cheap carribean. They greet you soon as you exit immigration and it's easy! It was chaotic for people with out shuttles and not to mention, more exp. We we're very bored at the resort. It's a lot smaller than the pictures make you think. You couldn't really leave the resort except to go to a "mall" which was expensive tourist stuff and more people hounding you to get your hair braided! In the end, were not going back to Dominican republic. Spend the extra money and go somewhere nicer!
