DR is not for me

The beach was dirty. The food was nasty. The staff doesn't like Americans. The hotel caters to the natives of the island and treat them well. Everything is pricey even the little souvenir stands. And they are VERY pushy I will never go back to the DR ever again.

Good Value for a vacation!!

This hotel needs some upgrades for standards rooms.. but its good to sleep and have a good time there... because most of the time we are out of the rooms.. The Elite Club (Junior suites) are very good... and its not so high in price.. worth the extra cost. Animation Team is excellent.. you will not be boring at this hotel.. Good buffet and restaurants.. Good quality for the value!! I have been several times and i will come back soon....

OK at best for the money

We stayed at the Barcelo Dominican Beah during the week of July 12th. The grounds are well kept and the pool and beach was nice and cleaned daily. The rooms were dated and not in great condition. We have to give the housekeepers a tip right up front if you want any extra towels, drinks in the fridge, etc..no tip no service. The food was OK at best. The buffet got very old after a few days and was VERY hot at all times. It made it very uncomfortable to even eat.. Dinner at the restaurants (need reservations) was better quality and cooler. If you do not care about service and only want an inexpensive pool and baeach experience this would be a good place

Big mistake

Service was really bad as well as food.Rooms need renovation.!!had to call for fresh towels after they were not replaced for 4 days!!!??? Our friends saw the maid going through their bags which were in the closet!!!??? another couple let us know that a few things were stolen from their room.Beach was not cleaned. The phone didn't work in the room and we could not get any help in fixing it for 5 days!!!!!!!????????There were no umbrellas on the beach!!!!!!!!!??????Everyone we spoke to told us they are not coming back to this resort. We are not planning to either.3 stars rating is too much for this place.

Very nice place

The grounds were beautiful, and the service was great. The beach was very nice with lots of shaded areas to take a break from the sun. There were a lot of ammenities included in the price, including access to a free sail boat, trying scuba diving and activities all day on the beach. I would recommend this resort to anyone looking for a bargain.

Very nice place Very nice place

Not So Much

I would not go by the star rating. The food and cocktails are not good. I was NOT told that top shelf alcohol and seafood cost extra. I asked questions before purchasing the package and there was no mention of that. My wife and I were disappointed. The beach and pools were great, but we had to go off of property to eat a decent meal.

Value Value Value

Overall, we loved the place. The beach was beautiful and the water was absolutely crystal clear. The pools were also gorgeous (and the swim-up bar is key). All the staff there is very helpful and are there to make sure you have a good time. The only shortcoming of the place was the food, which was mediocre at best. Also, the mixed drinks were very sugary and not very strong, so if you're looking to drink, stick to the ice cold Presidentes, which is the local favorite and very refreshing in the hot dominican sun. The best asset this place has is the fantastic value. If you are looking to get away without spending an arm and a leg, this has got to be the place to go. I would certainly recommend this place to a friend. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

Just hope you don't get food poisoning...

Nice resort for the price. Went there with my boyfriend while still in college because it was affordable. The worst part is that we both got food poisoning (and we followed all the rules about water & washing our hands) and the resort "manager" or HR representative kept blaming us for our illness after we returned from an overnight stay at the hospital. They were not nice and all but gave us a swift kick in the rear the day we left. If you do decide to go to the resort just be careful what you eat!
