good getaway

All inclusive on the main road through the hotel district, nearer to town than the airport and on the same peninsula as one of the docks where you can get ferries to Isla Mujeres. The beach is clean, not crowded and there is good snorkeling around the rocks out in the water, which doesn't get a lot of waves because it is across the bay from Isla Mujeres. The rooms are not new but they are adequate and the bathroom has a shower big enough for you and your friends. The AC works, which is another big plus. There is one large pool with plenty of room for everybody. The all inclusive restaurants are adequate to good, for sure you won't go hungry. There is also internet access at the bar upstairs from the main lobby, and that is convenient. Because you are on Kukulkan Blvd, it is an easy, cheap bus ride into town for shopping and looking around and further south are the Ruinas del Rey which are interesting, and the small museum at the convention center.

It was nice. I've seen better and I have seen worse. We were expecting a king bed with an ocean view and got 2 queens and a pool view. Nice, but not what we planned on. Don't be surprised to see topless sunbathers all over the place. Not what we wanted while tryung to eat at the buffet.

and, oh that cerveche!

I went to Barcelo with two of my girlfriends and we had such an amazing time! We lucked out and believe that we got the best room in the place, considering we walked straight out to the amazing beach from our little deck! The food was great...especially the cerveche they served almost daily. It was filled with seafood! The selections of restaurants was perfect and exactly what we had hoped for. The service was excellent and everyone made us feel so welcome. The room was great too...very clean, although we did not spend much time there. We spend half our days at the beach and half our days at the pool. The pool always had activities going on that you could take part in if you chose. We are planning on going back again this spring and are SO looking forward to it. Fabulous place to kick back, relax and enjoy a good drink!

Loaction location loaction!!!

Barcelo Costa was perfect not only for the proximity to many Downtown locations but also markets and public transit. We had service above and beyond. The staff were expertly helpful when we had a personal problem and we can not thank them enough at customer service desk. The resturants both service and food were excellent, and the view beautiful. If you prefer a small intimate property with access to local events, then is is the perfect place.

My husband and I went with our best friends for our 20th and 30th anniveraries respectively this past summer. We enjoyed the resort, food was some of the best we very had. We upgraded our rooms upon arrival and really enjoyed the master suites. The only drawback to this smaller resort, is there is no quiet place if you want to just rest - especially in the afternoons when they have all the pool games, etc. It is as if the emcee is shouting in your room. Other than that, no complaints at all.

Just what we were looking for

We were looking for somewhere all inclusive, that had no dress up rules for dinner, evening activities, shows, etc, easy access to town, multiple restaurants, close to sight seeing activities and a great price. Well guess what, we found it at the Barcela Costa Cancun. Not only did we have all of the above, but the staff was terrific. We got to know the wait staff, front desk, travel and housekeeping staff really well. We loved the fact that the safe and the well stocked refrigerator in the room was not an extra charge. They also had extra like an outside clothes stand to dry your suits, as well as one in the shower. The choices of food were excellent, shows were great, beach or pool wonderful. You could walk go to the pool area or around the corner of the resort and book outside excursions and then get on most of them right there Our room was beautiful, the shower was huge, decor excellent. I have been to Mexico many times, but my partner had not and he was very pleased and I was very happy even comparing to other resorts I have stayed at. We would highly recommend this resort and would go there again ourselves. I have recommended it to others I work with many times already. Do not hesitate to check it out!

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

BEACH IS VERY SMALL, THE HOTEL IS NOT IN THE HOTEL ZONE. IT IS OUT OF THE DOWNTOWN AREA. I FELT SOMEWHAT UNSAFE, THE RECREATION ACTIVITIES WERE NOT UP TO PAR. FOR A THREE STAR ESTABLISHMENT. RESTAURANTS ARE CLOSED EVERY OTHER DAY, IF YOU ARE UNSATISFIED WITH ANYTHING, GET READY TO PAY AND PAY DEARLY.

Excellent Value

The Barcelo Costa Cancun was a very good value through Cheap Caribbean. The rooms are really nice and very clean with a fridge that they restock every day with Coke products, Corona, water and snacks. Every night, they put on a show on at stage set up next to the pool. The food is pretty descent at the hotel but the only down side is getting up early each morning to make reservations at the restaurants. If you prefer to go to the buffet restaurant then you don't have to worry about it. The beach is not very big but nice and every day they bring out a different animal that you can get your picture taken with. I had my picture taken with a baby lion that was 8 weeks old. The hotel has a 24 hour snack bar that has liquor, beer, coke products and food. Right outside the hotel, you can catch the local bus for like 80 cents and go to the clubs or shopping. We had a great trip to the Barcelo Costa Cancun.

Barcelo Costa Cancun

We had a good time, but this was not the best place we've ever stayed. Food service was great. Rooms are clean, no frills but good. We were there for sun and beach. The beach was nice in that it had trees for some shade should you want it but needed raked. Seemed a little silly that they charged for their pool table, foosball, etc. Overall this is a good place to stay if you are not overly fussy and are there for the great weather and relaxation.

Good experiance for the money

We enjoyed our stay at this resort with a few exceptions. Our initial room was right next to the entertainment stage. When we discovered this, we immediatly went to the front desk to switch rooms. After waiting a half hour, we were able to inform the Manager we were there to relax, not party. He upgraded us to a much better room for an additional $25.00 per day. In hindsight, we felt this might be a common practice at this resort to obtain more money. After a few days we noticed advertisements within the hotel that stated upgrades were $15.00 per day. We decided to not complain, but rather never return. As far as the value received i'd say you get what you pay for. We pretty much knew what to expect. I dont mean to complain, because overall we had a good stay here. It is afterall a 3 1/2 star resort and as long as you view it this way, you will be satisfied. There were a lot of guests of all ages and the party crowd kept it to a dull roar. The beach area is rather small and crowded, but really not a problem. We enjoyed the excellant service at the restaurants and the food quality was ok, some better than others. The bartenders however seemed only interested in supplying efficient service to patrons who tipped. They were slightly rude and would ignore you while they performed other bar keeping responsabilities like washing glasses. This would occur even if they were not busy. We felt very put off by their attempt to force tipping for good service. We did not tip because of their behaviour. Overall this resort is average. We made the best of the expected short commings and had a good vacation. I would recomend this resort to anyone who expects to get whay they pay for and accept what they receive.
