This resort is a family resort. It is currently undergoing a rehab due to new ownership which hopefully will change many of the less desirable features of this review. The hotel lobby, rooms, bars and gift shop are in great need of an update. They currently have a worn and well used appearance. However, even though they are dated, the staff is friendly, customer service oriented, and everything from the facilities to the grounds are kept clean and spotless. Check in was a breeze and the front desk staff was efficient and very helpful but they immediately pass you off to a sales pitch promising you discounts on excursions, vouchers for other vacations, breakfast, and other goodies for attending a morning meeting at one of their other "newer" hotels. Took about 30 minutes to go through the sales pitch before you can get away to settle in your room. These sales pitches are just not who we are and if you enjoy hearing and seeing what they have to offer then they are great but I wish they would let you know up front what this is all about instead of making it seem as if it is part of their check in process for the hotel The rooms are small and again the décor is dated and well worn but the housekeeping staff is fantastic. Kudos to the ladies who service building 51 during the week of 6/30/2016. Thanks for all the nice little extras you provided from making sure the mini bar was stocked with the items we used daily (often extra of the items we used without having to ask for them.), the cute towel displays and keeping our rooms spotless every day. Housekeeping staff deserves a very nice tip- they work for it. The mini fridge keeps drinks cool at best and does not work very well and the top floor rooms with the traditional grass roofs are much hotter than the lower floor rooms. So crank the a/c down and hope for a slightly cool room. You will have to search out electrical outlets in the room as there are only three - the TV and coffee maker are plugged into one, the alarm clock is plugged into one and there is one provided at the vanity area. I am hoping the rehab does update rooms as they are in much need of it but if you are like us we spend very little time in the room while on vacation, these rooms were clean and serviceable while we stayed and worked well for us. Just do not expect 5 star amenities here. The pool with the swim up bar was under rehab during our stay so while we were able to utilize this pool the bar area for the pool was closed. This also relocated the fine dinning Mexican restaurant up into the main dining hall at the front of the property. The pools close nightly at 10 pm which we found a little inconvenient and wished they would consider keeping them open a bit latter. Both pools are keep very clean and are serviced daily as well as have plenty of lounge chairs and towel bar conveniently located right next to them. The daily buffet was plentiful and provided a great variety of food for each meal service. We never found that making reservations for the Mexican or Italian restaurants was necessary as there was always something delicious provided a the daily buffet. The wait staff is very friendly and makes sure that customer service is a priority for each dinner. The one and only negative to say is that at each meal service it is like dinning in a sauna. The dinning hall is extremely hot and you find yourself hurrying through each meal to get out of the oppressive heat in this room. The nightly entertainment was good. The first night was Latin dance night and everyone participated in dancing to the exceptional music that was provided. Because there was so much participation it was a blast. We were given a schedule of the nightly entertainment to be provided at check in and while it was not adhered to, the staff did an exceptional job with the nightly entertainment. However, for the most part the provided entertainment was "dance shows" and left very little room for guest participation. They were nice to watch but left us desiring a little more night life than just watching a dance show each night. Again, this was a personal preference and I must say the dancers are exceptional and are very entertaining. The excursions in the area are plentiful and very fun. There is lots, lots, lots to do. Snorkeling on the reef was amazing and the staff for this excursions deserves a special shout out. They are 100% invested in providing you a day of fun on the reef and the full day excursion provides you with a traditional lunch which was some of the best food we had during the entire visit. Snorkeling on the reef is a must do! Snorkleing with the turtles - left a little to be desired but the saving grace and what makes it worth the trip is the second half of the excursion is snorkeling in an underground cenote. Nora the tour guide was very knowledgeable about the area and history and took extra time to give details and share her knowledge. Kudos to Nora. Xplor is a great tour and provides you with zip lines, cenote swims, buggy rides ect. I will warn you this is a theme park. We were expecting more than the theme park experience. Not disappointed in the overall experience as it was fun just wasn't expecting it to be so theme park.... There is so much to do and booking your excursions right from the hotel lobby is a breeze. Be prepared to have fun where ever you go but be prepared to be active. Over all while this is not a 5 star resort and there were things that were a little less desireable than we would have liked this resort is a win if you are looking for a good clean family resort to have a blast in. I am in hopes that finishing the rehab at this site will elevate the appearance of the facilities because the service here is top notch! Hope this review helps you have a wonderful time on your vacation
Although Allegro is one of the smaller resorts in Playa Del Carmen, it actually became more of a benefit. We didn't have to walk far for food, drinks, or to go to the beach. Let's start with the food: It was excellent, you can basically get something to eat 24/7 and all of it tasted great! Something for everyone. We only tried 2 of the specialty restaurants(Mexican & Italian) which you need to reserve 24 hours in advance, but the service and food was superb! The drinks: one word, Excellent! The bartenders were great, always had service with a smile and even after we ran out of different drinks to order the bartenders had plenty of options for us to try! The beach: One of the top beaches in the world and it showed, miles and miles of white sand & blue water! Great place to lay out and relax! The service at allegro was fantastic, anything we needed whenever we wanted it, you never go to long with someone at your service for whatever you need. As far as activities, there is something going on all the time, something for everyone to enjoy. The night entertainment was great, if you stay a week or less you never see the same show twice and the shows are so good I wouldn't mind seeing them again! If you want to come and relax this is the place for you, if you're the kind of person that wants to get out and try new things your only a short walk to 5th ave & the fairy that travels to Cozumel!
My family stayed 7 night and enjoyed this resort very much. Even though it is now a luxury resort, it was amazing. The service was outstanding, everyone was super nice and friendly. The buffet has 7 days menu, so it does change and has a variety of choices. The Mexican and Italian restaurant were also excellent. The room could use some update, however it was not a big deal. My family likes that is was not overly crowed, there were always beach chaisr and not much lining up for anything. The pools were clean, walking distance to 5th avenue and a little shopping plaza 2 minutes away. There is not much entertainment in this resort, but my family really did not care for that. The service, beach and pool were very pleasing.
Like many people who are looking to book at Allegro Playaca, I had been looking for a great beach resort on a budget. The cost to travel (even during the winter holiday season) were incredibly reasonable compared to other resorts. However, it did not feel like a budget spot. The resort has been very recently renovated--in fact, they were still putting the finishing touches on it when I got there in mid-December. Everything is brand new, modern, and feels high-end. Do not judge the resort based on the photos from before the remodel--it looks nothing like that. The rooms were very nice and were cleaned everyday. Each room has a hammock outside which I found very relaxing in the evenings. The beds were a bit hard and when I arrived the room smelt musty. But those would be my only real complaints. The beach was amazing! Soft white sands, palm trees, and clear water. There are free water activities like snorkeling, kayaking, and scuba lessons. You can also pay for jet skis, etc. Waiters come around the beach taking drink orders. The drinks were very good and strong. The food was decent--although definitely not 5 stars. The entertainment at night was also pretty average. But there are plenty of things to do in town or you can just relax by the bar or pools. The staff was incredibly attentive and helpful. I did not find them to be pushy about timeshares as others have said--although I was very clear that I had no interest. They were very kind when I arrived before check in. They gave me a spot to put my things, got me my wristband so I could eat and drink earlier, and took me on a tour of the property. Likewise, I stayed at the resort after I checked out and they had a lovely shower room I could use before going to the airport. Overall this was a great place to travel! I would definitely recommend it to anyone.
Very nice clean well kept resort. It is a small resort which is very nice but there is not alot to do once the sun goes down. The rooms were awesome clean and well kept. The staff was awesome very friendly. The food can get a little repetitive at the buffet. The resort was a good value for what we paid.
We returned from Allegro Playacar two weeks ago. The rooms are modest but exceptionally cleaned daily. The resort is manageable because it is smaller as resorts go. The food was good, and the omelet bar at breakfast was superb. The beach was beautiful, and the staff at the pool kept the activities moving throughout the day. What made the stay truly memorable was interacting with the staff. All that we came in contact with were so pleasant and helpful. A special thank you to Isaac at the pool and Umberto at breakfast. Top accolades go to Paulina the hostess. She was exceptional, friendly, has a great sense of humor, and left a lasting memory for us. Overall, I highly recommend the Allegro Playacar. We will be booking a return trip here for next summer.
The beach and two pools were great. The buffets were average and very humid to warm dining in there, no a/c. If you were lucky enough to make reservations at the Italian restaurant, it was air conditioned. But, it was closed 2 of the 4 nights we were there. The buffet by the main pool was great. Burgers, chicken, beef, hot dogs, fries, lots of fruit and veggies. The bars were ok, bartenders not consistent with how they make drinks, definitely not enough alcohol in the drinks most of the time, so just ok. Then, there was our room in bldg 45. Very dated, tiles were chipped, stains in the tub and on the bathroom floor, mattress very firm if you like that. Tub was very slick in the bottom and slanted. The a/c worked ok at night but very warm and stuffy by mid day and afternoon with condensation running down the wall. Our toilet had a leak which kept the bathroom floor wet all the time. We reported it twice to the front desk, but it was never fixed. Overall, we had a good time, but probably won't return to this resort.
this is our 2nd time, was hoping for improvements. Sadly, this resort is declining in nearly every area. ROOM: no working AC,, reported to front desk, nothing was ever done. room smelled like cat urine, had to throw away my carryon when I got home because it smelled so bad. POOL: could not swim the first 2 days, the pool was filthy, looked like vomit floating on the top at one corner. BEACH: perfect!!!!! super clean and clear water, soft sand FOOD: choices are limited but what we ate was very good, excellent wait staff, especially HUMBERTO at breakfast,, he is awesome! chefs are wonderful with special requests DRiNKS: good drinks, bartenders are very nice GROUNDS: gorgeous and well maintained FRONT DESK STAFF: unfriendly all in all, the negatives outway positives. we will not be returning.
Loved this resort! The food is good, beach is beautiful, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Only complaint is that the bed and pillows were rock hard, bring your own pillow!! I highly recommend the snorkeling excursion, got to see lots of gorgeous fish, sting rays, and sea turtles! We were incredibly happy with our trip and will probably return.
The pictures of Allegro Playacar on the website do not reflect the beauty of this updated resort. Not only has the resort been recently renovated, the beach is the best and the biggest in Playa del Carmen. Service is second to none. Rooms are spacious and very clean. We were so sorry to leave after 8 days at this wonderful place. We would return to this resort again.
